The demise of URA Hero

I didn’t do it. It wasn’t me. Honest! I didn’t even attempt anything we just had a nice BBQ.

It all started around a month ago. I heard Ura and the Ura-Clan were going to be in the area, so I invited them over for a BBQ. I even offered to let them stay the night. Shame they didn’t take me up on that. I prepared the guest bedroom just for them. Oh well, my mother-in-law will be visiting in a few months. I’m sure everything will keep until then.

I did my utmost to be a courteous host, and I even made special ribs with no “Extra Spices” for Ura and his brood. Mind you we had a few other guests over too, and I did prepare some food with the “extra spices” for them (long story, lets just say that there was a little matter of money being owed, which I don’t owe them now). But I made it abundantly clear to Ura and Shesa that those particular ribs had the “extra spices” and that Ura and Shesa along with their two heroes in training were to stay away from them.

We all sat at the table and ate steamed crabs, ribs and steak, had cheesecake and drank a couple of bottles of Ice Wine while we reminisced about old times, and got caught up with what’s been happening. I even got out the gold silverware. It was a very nice visit. I was very impressed with Shesa Hero too she was quite the lady the entire night.

After we ate, our youngest kids went downstairs and showed Ura Jr his explosives collection and taught him how to combine smaller explosives into a much larger and more powerful explosive. No permanent harm was done to the yard, and fences can be replaced. They both had a good time and that was important. Afterward they played a few games of pool.

Now I’d like to note that Ura Hero Jr’s S/L resistance is quite high for one so young. Seems my youngest had an “accident” and broke a pool stick. Oh sure, he said it just magically broke all by itself, but I saw Ura Jr rubbing his head. I’m pretty sure Ace Jr blindsided him with it while he had his back turned.

I think they both learned a very important lesson out of the whole deal. Ura Jr learned not to turn his back on people, and Ace Jr. learned to use a bigger stick, and to think of better excuses. *Sigh* it does me good to see life lessons learned at such a tender age.

I came back upstairs after what we’re calling the “pool stick incident” only too see Ura gulping down his second rib with the “extra spices” I’m pretty sure Shesa gave them to him.

By the way, my dog absolutely adored Shesa, and he’s a great judge of character, just proves once again he’s right.

All in all a very pleasant BBQ, but eventually it had to end. They packed up the kids and we all said our goodbyes. I told Ura to visit the hospital if he started feeling queasy, then again I might have said not to visit the hospital. My memories are kind of fuzzy on that point. I do remember giving him a bunch of leftovers, along with the rest of the cheesecake. I hope they enjoyed them.

I made sure that Ura Jr got a box of explosives (it was Independence Day after all) and told him not to combine them, and not to set them off outside mom and dad’s room at 2 am. I also told him not to set the explosives off in the car. Ura Jr. was such a well behaved boy I’m sure he followed my instructions to the letter just like all teenagers would. I did however hear an explosion in the general direction they were going shortly after they got out of sight followed up by several sirens...

All in all it was a very pleasant visit, and I can honestly say that the last time I saw Ura, Shesa and the rest of the Ura-Clan they were well fed and in perfect health. Does my heart good to throw a successful BBQ like that.

When bored on conference calls. . if I'm going to read GA's posts, make sure I'm on mute.

I now need to explain why I found a critical break funny enough to burst out laughing.

I survived another round with my arch-nemesis, Golden Ace. I knew something was up when he invited me over to his house so quickly after being informed that I would be in the area. There were promises of a "BBQ" and "stay the night, please" being thrown around in a weak attempt to lure me in.

Of course any offer of free food is something that even a hardened soul such as myself would have trouble turning down, so I went ahead and accepted the offer. Who doesn't like free food???

We were told to show up fashionably late. I assume this was so that he would have time to set up all of the traps and poison. Try as I might I never did see a single trap and as for poison all I got was some gas and a bit of indigestion.

Like any good host he met us at the door with his minions in tow. I was surprised that there were only three. Most villainous figures have dozens due to loosing them to unfortunate accidents. Perhaps that is why there were only three. This could also explain the lack of traps and poison. The other minions had tested the devices and found them to be working and GA didn't have time to set more.

His wife was quite a nice lady. I thought at first she was being held against her will what with all of the cooking she was doing, but I later found out that she was trying to turn him to the good side. It seemed to be working as I heard him say, "Yes dear" several times. Given a few more years of work, she might just manage to make him a model citizen.

The time came to eat. And eat we did. Ribs, steak, crabs, salad, rice, it was all delicious. I ate too much. Shesa ate too much. The sidekicks ate too much. Frankly after the first few mouthfuls, I forgot about checking for poison. And then there was the cheesecake. Homemade cheesecake. Arrgghh. I had to force myself to eat it, but somehow I managed to get it down along with a chocolate pudding dessert cup. And a few more ribs.

I was chatting along with GA when I realized that the timers on the traps I had set were getting short. I hurriedly made some poor excuse to leave and tried to make it out before anything armed itself. GA did his best to delay us, but we finally managed to make it out alive.

It was fun, but I was a bit disappointed that there weren't any traps to dodge or disarm. And as far as poisons go I think my dad was right. A gallon of buttermilk before drinking anything vile will disarm the effects.

At least we did our part to put a dent in his food supply.

BTW, the ribs were still delicious reheated on Wednesday night along with the cheesecake remains.

Thanks for a great time GA.

I wouldn't know. I never got any. Darn Minions ate them all after I got called to work that Monday. Wife gave away the second cheesecake too.

Glad you enjoyed yourself. Let me know if your ever in the area again. Have a safe trip home tomorrow.
