Blaster Bonfire vs Controller Bonfire
Don't have too much experience with players using Bonfire, but the last player I saw that used it, used it to block off a door to halt enemies because there was too much aggro and people were face planting.
Hm...could be quite useful on ITFs when fighting Rommy at the end and the team can't handle the ambushes.
Just because it's a situational power, doesn't make it less useful even though there are players they do fine without it.
The blaster bonfire has mag around mag 6 KB IIRC, so it'll only be KD against KB resistant or high con enemies.

It seems like Blasters get a "IMHO" better version of bonfire. It does KD instead of KB. It does nice damage while bouncing a mob in it like Oil Slick Arrow on fire.
The controller KB version simply isn't as useful. It can have some very nice applications but its far more situational. Any explanation on this one? Perhaps this makes the case for chaning it to a lower mag KB so it does KD with the option of adding in KB enhancements? |
In circumstances like that, the Fire/ Controller Bonfire would be KD as well, in fact it's fabulous! One Fire controller in those circumstances can make any other Crowd Control essentially irrelevant .
I haven't seen the Blaster version in use much so I really can't comment on it directly, but like DSorrow above that's the first thing that leaps to mind.
The Troller version you can also stack fire cages with it and by spamming fire cages it does decent damage while not knocking the mobs away. VERY useful if you can pull it off.
The Blaster version definitely does knockback, and not knockdown, just like the Controller version.
Blaster Bonfire and Controller Bonfire are exactly the same except that the Blaster version takes twice as long (at base) to Recharge. They even do the same damage.
Bonfire is actually a good little power. It's not something I'd live or die for but it has surprising number of uses. It's one of the few auras ranged squishies seem willing to go stand in, for one. But it also can be used to pin mobs in rooms/corners, or block doors. If a group is spread out I also sometimes throw it over the enemy's heads so that they fly toward me. And since enemies are too dumb to go around it you can do some kiting with it as well by circling it gradually as you fight.
