Claws/DA or Spines/DA to solo AVs?
I was looking for a good solid build, possibly to solo AVs with, and was wondering if either of those two paired with DA would be able to solo an AV? I do plan on IOing them out heavily as well.
Also, for a quick comparison...Spines is a much better single target with decent AOE than spines, and spines is a much better AOE with decent ST, correct? |
Claws is really good ST and decent AOE

Byzantine Warrior-DB/ELA 50;Blade Tempo-50 DB/EA
Claws/DA might be able to.
Probably not gonna happen with Spines.

Claws, definitely. Spines has such poor DPS I'm quite sure it can't solo AVs with any S/L resistance. Especially when you first need to bump up Dark's survivability to withstand an AV hitting you, you'll have very little room to make Spines' single target much better.

Spines has, compared to other primaries, poor single target damage. I'd not pick that. I'm also not sure you'd like /DA for AVs. It's best damage "mitigation" is it's heal, which must roll to hit and ideally needs to hit 3+ foes to full heal. I found /DA to be poor in AV and EB situations compared to other secondaries. /DA shines vs large packs of easier targets. Also vs psi damage and end drains. I'm not saying it can't work, just that I think other options are better.

I've had some success with a DB/ELA that had around 28ish defense to all positions, without insps. It wasn't fantastic, but still, as that alt was based around *using* insps, that it could solo some AVs at all was interesting. A claws/DA would be relatively similar ; smaller res numbers, higher def numbers, faster recharging heal, harder end management - overall I think it'd be a better toon (than DB/ELA) as claws is light on end and CP/PP can do the trick.
Focusing the build on it, you could build for S/L softcap and be fine against many AVs without insps.
You'd have a greater chance of getting the markets merged than killing an AV with a Spines/Dark.

Which, with the recent news, is a cunning way to say it's possible but takes a lot of work. Clever.
It is possible but you'd have to fight a very weak AV and or have a lot of time on your hands lol

well you're gonna have 2 damage aura.... add that on top of your ST damage and...
ahhh never mind
spines is better at multiple minions and lt's with a boss or two. It's not the best or very effective at hard single targets as others have said.
Spines/ D A lvl 50 Scrap, stone/wm lvl 50 tank, Kat/reg lvl 50 Scrap
Grav/Kin lvl 50 Cont, Fire/Enegry lvl 50 Blast
Warshade lvl 50, PB lvl 39, nightwidow lvl 50, crab lvl 42
plant/thorns lvl 50 dom, ice/fire lvl 40 dom, grav/nrg lvl 41 dom
Claws/DA, with out question.
I concur with others here, Dark Armor is not the best choice for soloing AVs. It can be done on IO build, assuming you could afford it.
Claw/DA not so much, a Kat/DA or BS/DA with the Parry/Divine spam that is if the AV stays melee with you, then it'd be very possible.
