PVPEC 3v3 weekly fight nights!
Assigned team members makes it a lot easier for the host to control who the winners are...after all, it only take one team-mate to throw the entire match. Glad to see the creative rigging of events continues, great job.

If you haven't read the thread, it's already been said it's being run this way to balance out teams. Sometimes you'll get lucky and get a good player and other times you won't, that's the nature of being random. This event is for new and experienced PvP'ers and to get more people interested in PvP. It would be pretty discouraging for new players if the same teams win every week.

As much as I think the idea of rigging teams is silly, I think more transparency in the way teams are chosen may help put this issue to rest and help curb the drama.
I had an idea that I think might help the situation...
Teams are chosen right in the Battle Terminal screen so that everyone can see how they are generated. Here is how it would work:
Step 1: Registration
Participants register with the event host during a certain time frame via tells. This gives the event host an idea of how many teams there will be total. Ie, total number of people divided by 3.
Step 2: Create Match
The event host creates a match at the terminal, and sets it to 'Open Teams', max 3 players on each team, and the number of teams anticipated from the head count during registration. (Note: the arena will allow a max of 8 teams.)
Step 3: Setting Up Pairs
The event host sets the match to 'Invite Only' and invites the pairs that registered and places them on the same team (since this part is not random.)
Step 4: Free Agents
The event host opens and lists the event. All free agents join the event at this time. The Arena should more or less randomly assign these free agents to teams. Once you join the event, you are not allowed to leave if you do not like your team. The Arena Chat will show players who left the event, so an objective log of this can be monitored.
Step 5: Recording Teams
After everyone is on a team, team composition can then be recorded (easily done by a screen shot). The colours of teams are Red, Blue, Green, Black, White, Yellow, Orange, and Purple. You can use the colours or number off the teams. Eg, Red team = team 1, Blue team = team 2, and so forth. Everyone has now seen the generation of the teams and knows their team mates.
Potential Issues
Because the Arena only allows 8 teams max, the rules would have to be changed so that only 24 people would be able to register. I don't think this is necessarily a bad idea, since at the last event we had 8 teams IIRC, and it took several hours to complete. In the interest of time, I think 8 teams is reasonable.
In the event that more than 8 pairs register, the event host will only count the first 8. Pairs registered after the first 8 will be converted to free agents.
I'm not certain how exactly the Arena decides where to place people. Clearly it goes by the order in which they join, but beyond that appears to be pretty random. Regardless, I think if a bunch of free agents joined at the same time, it would be very difficult to control where people land on teams. I'm going to try to test this out a few times and see how it goes.
If this isn't palatable to people, I'm sure there are websites with random team generation PVPEC could look into using, but I thought it would be nice to have an in game way of doing it.
Anyways, there's my suggestion.

Great idea except for the terminals do not quite work that way. When people join it automatically puts them on the first team until the maximum amount for that team is filled which is 8 regardless of the settings.
I however agree that something needs to be changed because human nature tends to make people very competitive and not always capable of admitting that they lost because someone else was simply better. Some people just tend to like to lay the blame else where. So with that being said I think what I am going to do is use vent and the ingame dice system like I do for some other randomly generated events. I realize not everyone gets on the pvp vent but enough do to be able to confirm the integrity of what is being done as far as the dice rolling.
I also think on nights that a lot of people show up like they did this week that this event will be changed to 3v3+, team size dependent on how many people we have. For example with 24 people like we had this week for time sake I might change the matches to 4v4's or even 6v6's. While some people love hour after hour of matches the casual pvpr doesn't want to spend that many hours every week invested in one aspect of the game.

Anyways, food for thought. Admittedly my experience in large scale Arena events is lacking, but I thought it was worth exploring a little. I think it's great you have some other ideas in the works for random team generation in game, where people can verify the process. Hopefully this will keep some of the drama down.

I did a small scale test this afternoon, and it doesn't seem that it will overfill a colour past the team number set. I filled the red team deliberately to see if it would add people past 3, but it didn't. Instead, it just filled the other teams. It also doesn't appear that it will allow people in the event past the max number you set per team times the number of teams. I had 2 teams of 2 full, and my 5th person could not get in the match once those teams were full.

Something has to be done.. hearing from a former PVPEC rep.. some event are rig or favored. even though if say that your doing randoms pick.. still kinda hardly to believe especially when you know that rep hates you with a passion. I say teams pick like Amy posted or a free for all and the places should determine the picks... well the free agent show do a free for all to determine. Something in that nature.

I love the way these are held. Not because I can win but because ANYONE can. when everyone has a shot and is there to compete it all of a sudden becomes a great time.
Elf you and I have been eye to eye on many things for a long time please do not take this as disrespect as my message is not meant that way. I just disagree with your vision.

I really don't care which way its done. Regardless of what anyone thinks the end result will still be the same, random teams. There are pluses and minuses to doing it each way. Doing it where the system makes the teams means I could participate and not have to worry about teams screaming favoritism rather than me just sitting for hours hosting. The bad part of letting the system pick is on the occasion that it stacks a team totally unfairly I don't have the option to re roll it to even it out better. I could add the rule that I have the option to re roll it in that case but then what the definition of a stacked team is happens to be subjective and it would just end out being a big argument with the team that is stacked.
Some of us actually wish you did play in the event..some peeps would like the chance to wack at you even though you probably play stalker. Random im fine with along there honestly and no personal bais.
To really squish this and keep this out the forums... grab a squad and I bring a squad and we take to the streets location Pocket D under the monkey cages. I earn my events I have won... no favor being the under dog and the odds stack against me.. and I won. That why I repersenting Champion on this coming Sunday event. By the way might be able to make cause not sure what time I would return from Vegas that day. I hope it can be set for next sunday. Other then that Mah or Ashes... accept my offer... 8v8, 6vs6, 5 vs 5

However, i do agree we should settle this in arena. Let's start 1v1. I got the video software ready to record the event. We actually havent fought eachother Corr to Corr and i would enjoy the opportunity to shut you up for a while. as for a larger match I can say, i have offered in the past MAH and I challenged you and Bud to a 2v2 before and you two were a no show.
I can tell you OtC is can field a 3v3 team vs PoN/EL just about on demand so just list it and we will come.
As for a larger match OtC is only 5 of us and only 3 of us pvp with any regularity. Now i dont see any value in marching 8 players in I know could crush your squad as i know i could hand pick them from around the server for nothing more than the satisfaction of pummeling you. But if you insist....

Hey all, if random pairings are an issue you can always use the Lethal Lottery format which was crazy fun in the day.
I've seen it done 2 v 2 and 3 v 3, essentially all the names went into a pool and got drawn into teams; the catch was that you couldn't re-team with the same person in consecutive rounds until the final rounds. Basically, each person got points based on their wins and those with the most points faced off in a final 3 v 3 at the end.
It had some...interesting results the last few times, being pared with Void on his Stalker was very cool and doing a duo-emp with Girl Sixx was pretty funny hehehe.
If the idea is to simply add a single free agent/random to the mix, it's even easier since you just need to roll a single six-sided die to determine outcomes. Either way, I'm sure Kat and Amy can figure something out in an amicable manner so that most people are happy.
GLHF hope to join one of these if they get done on a non-Saturday

4shes, Elf. As entertaining as it isn't to see you two having at each other I'd ask that you take it to PMs and leave this topic to what it was intended for. The PVPEC Saturday Night fights.
Personal Vendettas can be taken up ingame.
I havn't been able to make it to the 3v3 Nights as of yet due to RL, but I do plan on making it as often as *feasibly* possible. I'm a fan of Amy's thought process on the team picking, although I don't as of yet believe there has been any purposeful stacking/understacking of teams. There does apparently seem to be an excess of whining though. However, seeing as it consistently comes from the same people I wouldn't look into it too much beyond the fact that "haters gonna hate". And be done with it. Lets just PvP.
Space reserved for a super awesome Signature, someday...
