Hey everyone..
So i've been REALLY wanting to build one of these dispite the flaws..

I was trying to see how close I could get to capped ranged and AOE defenses. But I can't seem to get too much.. I thought if I pick up ignite drop it at the blasters feet that keeps the baddies from getting into ranged combat (too much) and forces them to range and aoe combat..

The problem being... I cannot for the life of me get over around 20% defense and still have a build that I'm happy with.

Does anyone have a build out there that can beat 20% defenses but doesn't gimp the utility of the blaster with multiple damage types and the devices offering lots of other utility?

If memory serves, with AR/Dev you can't cap anything. The other secondaries with lots of melee can hit it if they take ice as the epic.

Yeah this is what I was pretty well figuring since the combat oriented IO's grant most of the +def bonuses..

and dev is a set sadly devoid of that...

So perhaps I should build towards just making an extremely playable (although probably best played with a friend) ar/dev..

You can still soft cap to range. I put this together quickly and it is by no means optimized. It has 45% assuming unsuppressed cloaking device. With cloaking device suppressed, you'd have about 43.4%, which isn't bad. I made some sacrifices here and there, but I think the build is largely playable.

That's not too bad!!
Now lets say we switched it to hover and flight (just purely hypothetical).

You could get some similar defensive stats and if you hovered you could be off the ground..

That obviously won't save you from an air based AoE attack, but i'm thinking it might help you out vs the aoe's targeting the whole team (if you're above the cone right??)

And obviously you can swap out the Ragnaroks and LotG+7.5s for cheaper.

Yes, you can swap to hover and flight and have the same amount of defense as long as hover is toggled.

Smoke grenade is your friend -4.9 to hit for 1 minute against even level enemies. It even makes you hard to see and can be slotted with inexpensive sets that provide nice bonuses

If you are going to go the devices with defense route you might as well get full benefits

Not sure if you would like this direction, but what about 44.9 for S/L and 38.9% for ranged? The Smoke grenade at 49 with the -ToHit also acts as a defense buff, of sorts. I'm not sure sweating out AoE is worth the effort.

Hmnn well personaly I have a BLaster that is Assault Rifle & Devices
though to be onest only going to select the Targeting Drone & Gund Drone
as well as Web Grenades from the Devices Set and whack in a load of
Power Pool stuff like such the Fitness Set, Leader Ship as well.

Of cource it's probably wrong but hey it's my littl epet project to buil don
while working on my main character a Tanker.

Oh and I wont use that Bean Bag Power, sorry but I just hear that name
and feel embarassed even having it in the set even if I wont select it, why
oh why did they have to call it that O_o

I mean come on your enemy isn't going to cower in fear at the full force of
your devistating Bean Bag Attack, no matte rhow good it may be at its job
lol!
