Lag question

I'm back after about a year-long hiatus and have been playing Villain side. I notice a lot of lag that I didn't before and am wondering if this is consistent across all zones these days. I recall that Grandville used to be known for its lag but that's the only zone I used to have problems. Now I blink along in Cap like it's a power point show.

I don't have any lag issues while on a mission map, even while teaming with multiple power effects going on. Just flying thru Cap, however, drops my FPS to 3-4.

I understand that everyone's PC is different and that one person's lag isn't another's..just curious on the general findings over the past year or so.

My graphics settings are fairly maxed out, with everything at least at medium performance and most things on high. Which settings should I reduce to see the most performance increase?

Thanks.

What are your graphics settings at? Upon returning from your hiatus, did you enable the Ultra Mode graphics options?

I can't login at the moment to give you my exact settings but yes, I did enable Ultra Mode. When I logged in the for the first time I got a message that said my graphics card "qualified" for Ultra Mode, would I like to enable? And I said... SURE!!!

If memory serves I have world detail at 200%, I don't think I have occlusion turned on, and water effects at mid-level.

World Detail at 200% is probably enough to do it. Especially in CoV Zones.

I'd start by knocking that one down to 150 or 100.

Knocking down the shadow quality settings also greatly helps framerate.

I'd go a different route: knock all your settings down to minimum, then bump them up until you have a satisfactory combination of pretties and lag.

Also (though this is probably not true in your case) people should know that just because the game says your rig can run Ultra Mode doesn't mean it actually should be doing so.

I got the message and I have a GeForceFX 5200. It's like 8 years out of date, runs the game at a respectable 20-30fps on minimal to moderate settings. I'm not about to mess with water reflections or shadows, though.

And it never said I could, but I can use almost all the functions. I'm not sure they should have bothered with that pop-up part and just let people fiddle to see, since we have to anyway.

Dec out.
