S.I.N.I.S.T.E.R. purpose and status

Hi everyone, you may have noticed that SINISTER is in a bit of a slump right now, I am now the only active leader, and I'm only online twice a week.

The purpose of SINISTER has always been to serve the community by connecting players and to be a welcoming place for people new to the game or server. I do not own SINISTER and I didn't create it, I am just its caretaker, and some day I expect to pass it on to a new upcoming leader.

The problem is that there is no emerging leadership in SINISTER, because the mechanics of supergroups has made them mostly irrelevant at best, and a burden at worst. Communication happens in global channels, and many of the community's more experienced players have created their own private supergroups and do not participate in a shared group. The character limit is the biggest issue, because there just isn't room for all a player's characters. Less important now is the issue of private storage, since email attachments make sharing easier. Finally, most people want to tinker with base design at some point or another.

So, do you think that a supergroup to serve the Oceanic community is still an important asset? Or is global channel Australia enough?

If you think a shared supergroup is important, would you join SINISTER with one or two of your favoured characters? If you think a leadership role in SINISTER would suit you, let me know as well.

See you tonight,
Lili

Newish to Justice and from Hawaii rather than Australia.

But my 2-cents is that Public Global channels are ok, however you get people participating from cross servers, that's not always as helpful when trying to put a group together.

As a player, I find I appreciate super groups that actively use the message of the day to coordinate, etc, that have all the teleports, that have the occasional event to be very helpful.

It's nice when the group is larger and has a community, but with an active coalition, even if the group is pretty empty, it has value.

If both group and coalition are dead, then it doesn't help so much.

I also find that new players often find a public chat channel is more intimidating than asking supergroup members to team. Public chat has larger reach, but with a supergroup you have a built-in relationship even if it is your first day with the group.

On a chat channel, everyone is a stranger.

And I've actually tried a few times to get into sinister and sentinel, but no one was on. My hours are worse than yours, darn 90-hour work week =)

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

Very good point. The disconnection between global and local is also a hurdle, even for more experienced players.

Yeah, that's the biggest issue, with many of the more active players having private SGs they aren't available to give invites to SINISTER.

Coalition is handy, but unfortunately the limit of 10 is a bit constraining and not everyone can have a spot.

To be honest, most of the newer members are avoiding SINISTER, due to the inactivity of the VG.
And the newer ones, which have gone into the VG, have ended up quitting lately.
I honestly think the SINISTER VG doesn't play as much of a role in keeping players together, as most seem to just use Australia channel.
The private VG's can always make a network of VG's via coalitions, but I think Australia channel plays the biggest part.
Also, with my attempts to get more active members into Australia channel lately, and more people willing to run things, I'm finding that we are also getting more members who don't fit into the Oceanic time zone, but do play when a lot of us are on. These people are also in private VG's.
With the fact that the channel has expanded so much in the last few weeks, I think that if we DID get everyone into SINISTER, we would reach the toon limit really fast, and the storage limit would easily become a problem.

I think the purpose of sinister should be as a transient VG for people who don't have their own VGs. The intention being to make TPers available to denizens of the australia channel, and provide some admittedly insecure storage.

Teamage would still be via the australia channel.

It should be made clear on joining that this is really what sinister is for, people can move out if/when they find a real VG, but it would be very useful to people new to the server.

Several times I've been on when people wanted invites, but as a mere minion I can't invite.

I'm sure you're right. The problem is that there is no other VG that advertises itself as open to new players. The list of groups in this forum is notably sparse.

Having done this quite a bit with SINISTER, it's not actually very feasible. The limit is too low, and people are too transient.

The character limit is a complete killer, most people play at least 5 characters, often more which means you'll run out at 30 players, which is way too few. If there were other SGs/VGs that recruited new players, things would be much more manageable.

That seems like a good idea. I assume a "real" VG is one that you have all of your characters in, and have enough storage for your needs. That's incompatible with being a "welcome to the masses" VG because of the character and storage limits.

So it would be appropriate to position SINISTER as a starter/casual/transient VG, since that's what it has become. But that only makes sense if there are "real" VGs out there for people to join, and a proper network of coalitions so there's some communication.

So, to support this scheme, we need people who are running real VGs to step forward, keep a character in SINISTER, which I will promote so you can invite, and then join their VG to coalition. Volunteers?

I didn't know you even had a character in SINISTER, I will promote you as soon as possible.

Well, I have set up a Hero and a Villain on Justice in hope of teaming more often on week nights, as Victory is pretty dead these times.

I have just started my very first VG (H.A.V.O.C. Inc.) base, so we don't have much as yet, but it seems to be growing faster than I thought. I already have 3 others join that are in the same timezone as me. It is my hope that I can get more to join, as I am sure there are those in a similar position.

I teamed with a couple of players from the Australia channel the other night and it was very enjoyable. They were both in the same small VG as each other and we immediately set up a coalition. I am also hopeful of forming a coalition with a few more Aus timezone VGs, so if there are any out there feel free to contact me @MrFlibble.

Global chat is good for setting up teams , to a point, but I prefer coalition. At least you know they are on the same server adn the same side. I keep forgetting to say which side I am on when I ask on Australia channel

You can pretty much assume that anything advertised on the Australia channel will be on Justice if it doesn't say specifically that it's somewhere else.

I'm happy to set up a coalition with SINISTER if you're online tonight. That way you'll have access to the SINISTER teleporters.

The advantage of global channels is that you can contact players on other servers/sides and they'll have the chance to switch over for some teaming.
