Character idea: 'Dual Powersets'
Copy Paste reply as to why this idea has been gunned down, on fire, so many times before is now pending.
Basically; Don't count on it. Not until, I dunno...they release Clown Summoning MMs and Dual Archery Defence.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Great IDEA! In fact I came up with the same idea a few months ago (edit: about a month ago).

P.S. Personally I think it should be done, especially if they can't do an interchangeable character teleport system, this is a good fix that might be able to be done (but not likely as people are already saying).
It's still infeasible, especially in this kind of form, because then you can basically make a powerset that is better than any of the individual ones.
For instance, let's take a Controller. We'll make him an Earth/FF Controller for this example. Even if you limited the choices to one other powerset, and the powers had to be swapped from the same tier, you could basically make this character:
Primary:
Stone Prison
Fossilize
Stone Cages
Quicksand
Hot Feet
Stalagmites
Earthquake
Volcanic Gasses
Fire Imps
Secondary:
Transfusion
Deflection Shield
Force Bolt/Repel
Siphon Speed
Detention Field
Dispersion Field
Inertial Reduction
Transference
Fulcrum Shift
Does that seem to be in balance with a normal power set?

I've always supported the notion of dual powersets, futile as it may be, simply because that's probably the only thing that would get me to play a Defender. Not by mixing and matching, though, and not via free-form swaps. I'd only want to see it element-for-element, theme-for-theme. Basically, if you had a Fire/Ice Blaster, you could dual-class that as either a Fire/Ice or an Ice/Fire Tanker (only one of the two), but not into an Energy/Invulnerability one. That would be a way to show the character using the same powers but in different ways.
I'm well aware of the technical difficulties of this one, so there's no need to shoot the idea down. I know it won't fly.

Part of me is actually amazed. People keep running into this:
Seriously, I've done this once today already:
The developers have put a ton of work into making this game quote "alt-friendly" by implementing tons of character slots, multiple servers, a global system not tied to avatars, the ability to buy more character slots, or earn slots by simply subscribing to the game, and so and so forth. Almost all of these "I wanna respec my avatar into a different Archtype", "I wanna respec my avatar into a different power set but keep the Archtype"; and "I wanna level two power sets at the same time, or I wanna convert an existing power-set to a previous power set; are focused on two different ideas:
- They are focused on bypassing the leveling system.
- They are focused on making City of Heroes just like another MMO.
So. No.
Let's be clear. This is not a Developers can't do it for technical reasons.
This is a Developers Will Not Do It because it goes against the concept of the game and the game designs itself.
Honestly, it's not really that hard a concept to grasp. It really isn't. City of Heroes is not like any other MMO. There's no shortage of character slots. There's no shortage of servers. And if you tell me that you've gotten every single possible slot you can get on every single server filled up with level 50 avatars... You're either lying, or your a power-leveler who hasn't actually played the game to begin with.
The fact is this:
No Matter How anybody tries to spin Archtype Respecs, Power Set Respecs, or just building two power-sets on the same character from level 1, it's not going to happen.
Period. Stop. End of Story.
The. Developers. Said. No.
No need for all of that Saist, I got the picture when Techbot said it.
I didn't know it had been brought up before, I've been out of the game for about a year now and this is the first time I've seriously looked around the combined European/American forum.
And Aett, I didn't mean taking powers from two primary sets. More have an extra build with a different set ie:
build one:
Martial Arts/ Super Reflexes
build two:
Dual Blades/ Willpower
no crossing of powers.
Not that it matters, just thought I'd see what people thought.
So how do you want to be done? Medium, Well or Extra Crispy?

I had this idea a while ago, mostly as something that might save one or two role players a few character slots, but here goes.
One of my main characters is Kung Fu Cat. She's a master martial artist and skilled in other martial abilities. One set I've been hoping to see is a Quarter Staff set, and I would then make a second version of her as QS/SR scrapper.
What I was thinking though, why not combine the characters?
Basically, my idea is that once a character hits level 50, you can create an extra build of the character with different powersets (probably in the same architype) that you can change at a trainer (possibly with a long timer, every few hours maybe, before you can change again)
Anyone think this would be a good, or fesible, idea?
