The Arena? Fun or a waste of time?

I have my tanker to level 33 (the crowd cheers) and could not have accomplished that without the advice of forum members (Thank you all very much).

I would like to try the Arena, but is the Arena as fun as it seems or is it a big waste of time? I can sign up for and event and wait while the minimum capacity slowly fills up and then have to quit as it is time for a nap or way past my bedtime.

'Tis true i am ignorant of how the Arena works and hope you wise folks of the forum can help me out.

Thank you,
Samson Moses.

Definitely fun, but the pre-arranged events don't run. You need to find a buddy who wants to duel you, and create your own match. Most folks find a willing partner in their SG or in Arena chat.

However, Arena is kind of the territory of the experienced, hardcore PvPers. Most folks in there are using decked out level 50 FoTM toons. For casual, mid-level PvP that's a little kinder to more than a few specific powersets, try out some zone PvP in Siren's Call.

Not always! I think it was Kittenofchaos that used to hold (still holds?) Level 4 PVP events - no travel powers, no stalkers (for hide) or Khelds (travel powers,) everything else is fair game. No slot advantage by being level 5, either. The ones I was in were insanely fun.

Now, do you tend to find quite a few of the PVP SGs and hardcore PVPers there? Sure. Especially on test (or, I'd assume, Freedom.) But you can also get some nice, casual matches - and if you run across one of the solid PVPers, hey, tell 'em you want to learn.

Or just grab a friend and go to town. I've done that several times.

Heh, I would suggest the opposite. For me Arena matches have always been more structured and less prone to the general jerk behaviour stereotypically associated with PvP. You're more likely to lose if you don't know what you're doing, but you'll probably have more fun with it.

PvP is like anything else. Some people enjoy it and others can't stand it. It's like a badge hunter versus a non-badger. Both are "correct" in what's fun and what's not.

The PvP population is rather small, so they're usually pretty good about taking in anyone who expresses an interest in PvP.

As the others said, it can be fun or a nightmare, depending on who you're hooking up with. Best to start out just bashing friends and move up to the more structured Arena "leagues" after you get the hang of it. But, you'll find that your powers work a WHOLE lot different in PvP than PvE (dumbest thing the devs ever did), so you might want to read up on some of those differences at some time or another.

Dec out.

I started my pvp career back on union in the arena, now im on freedom.

I have to say you would be better going to arena before trying out zone pvp because zone pvp is a lot more annoying lately with a buttload of blasters and stalkers running the show (nice balanced pvp build i13 )

Arena pvp lets you iron out any problems you have with your build before you take it to the harder points of the game. Sirens call for instance, tends to be flooded with a load of 50s with set bonuses, which although there level is lower, the bonuses still apply making it almost impossible for a non setted toon.

Rather than apply for the events though, your better off asking in SG or coalition if anyone wants a pvp match, the more you get wanting in, the bigger the match you can have

If your new to pvp, i recommend pvping with friends rather than the true pvpers because there are a lot of gloating douches who will put you off pvp if you let them and experience means a lot in pvp as well, so if your a newcomer fighting a more experienced player your more likely to lose as well.

Either way good luck to you, if you want an easy win, look up dahjee lol. He likes to think he knows a lot about pvp but in practice hes easy kills, its kind of an ongoing thing on the pvp forums now to ignore any advice he offers since its always bad.
