HELP! CoH Won't start!
Make sure you have the latest video drivers.
Also, try running the game in safe mode (by checking a box next to the EULA agreement acceptance).
If it starts up fine in safe mode, let us know!

The most current drivers for the X1600 card are the Legacy series. Currently they are at 10.2 but I don't know if the Legacy drivers have the same problems the regular 10.2 Catalyst drivers did when adjusting some of the UM settings.
The newest Legacy driver I can find before that is the 9.11 Legacy driver. You may want to try that if the 10.2's give problems.
Standard Installation procedures:
Download the drivers but don't install them yet. Download and install Driver Sweeper but don't run it yet. Go into the Control Panel to Programs and Features. Uninstall any ATI Catalyst or Display entries found and reboot into Windows Safe Mode. Run Driver Sweeper and let it remove any ATI Display entries it finds then reboot when prompted into normal Windows mode. Cancel any new Hardware Installations that come up then run the driver installation you downloaded earlier.
Once that is done, download and run (Right-click and select Run as Administrator) the I17 compliant CoH Helper and post the results. It's cleaner than DXDIAG and shows us what we need to see as well as your ingame settings.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.

Same problem in your second output. What was the file called that you ran to install your drivers?

I've the same problem on my laptop:
I tried with legacy drivers 9.11 and 10.2, and then with Catalyst 10.4 but with always the same errors.

CaptainPulsar, I don't know if it matters but I note you appear to be using a French version of Windows but your video driver is listed as being English. I don't know that it makes a bit of difference but you might see if you can get a French driver to match the OS. TexasJustice links above to the drivers you need and a cursory perusal shows a dropdown where you can select a language.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.
Im going to jump on this thread. My buddy is having the same error message when he tries to load CoH. Im going to include his first email to me and once he forwards the CoH helper data to me Ill post it as well.
Ive had him update his video and mother board drivers and hes still getting the same error.
His email to me:

Not sure what I can send here is what I get.
I have a MSI N250GTS Nvidia card with the Geforce 250 GTS chip and 1024 Mb DDR3 memory. That is the only change in my system since I last played.
I start the game and get
Error message #1
Your card or driver doesn't support ARB_multitexture
hit OK
Error message #2
Your card or driver doesn't support ARB_texture_compression
Hit ok
Then I get a message about my detected video card or driver is not currently supported.
If I select yes, the program crashes.
I went to Nvidias website and got the latest driver. I followed your link and set everything as shown both high and low end still no good.
Ill take any help I can.

Thanks!

Did he use a program like Driver Sweeper (http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/) when updating the video drivers? Using it after uninstalling the drivers can help as it will clean out leftover bits. Helps keep any old driver components from interfering with the new ones.

HOLY CRAP!!! I found the problem. Looks like there was a remnant of the old video card driver f-ing things up. Not only is the game running now, nut my video card qualifies for Ultra mode. Thanks for you help <confidential>. Now if you send me the invite a friend back stuff I can get you some free game time.

Same Problem here. In February, CoH Trial worked well with a GeForce 7950GT, but now CoH isn't working with a GeForce GTS250. Same two errors as above.

The only thing i wonder about is the language of the driver. My system is german, the driver is english but did this count as an error?
Ok, so i wiped my old driver (257.something) and looked after driver survivors with Driver Sweeper. Driover Sweeper suggests to restart in safe mode but i can't because i have no access to safe mode at start because keyboard is not reacting (stupid logitech bluetooth thing). No idea how to actvate save mode, so i tried in normal mode...looking for old drivers alsd cleaning all.
I wondered, that Driver Sweeper fund ATI drivers. I never had an ATI Graphic Card in this PC, only a GeForce 7950 and now a GTS250. So no idea where the problem is. Just wanted to delete the ati thingies, but they are stlll there. And hey...they have been there before, when CoH did run well with a 7950GT.
To end this: Driver Sweeper didn't help, CoHHelper says nothing. CoH says my Graphic Card odr Driver sucks. i payed 29€ for CoH and can't play it now. All hail to ne ncsoft support which didn't react...they have no idea how support is working^^
Someone an idea what to do?

- If you can't use safe mode on your computer because of your keyboard, then you need to get a new keyboard.
- have you tried updating your video drivers without running driver cleaner and seeing if it works anyway?
i can't enter Safemode at the beginning of the starting thing, because my keyboard activates later (something in the BIOS O.ô).
Changed it, activated Keyboard, entered Save Mode, cleaned all remeining Driver things but nothing changes.
Updating Drivers without wiping out the remeining things with Driver Cleaner: Same result.
Alway the same errors...i can't play CoH beacuse my GTS250 does not support several things.
First version i tried with, was the 257, newer version ist the 258...the latest driver for win xp pro. May the os is the problem and CoX only works with the GTS250 in DirectX10 mode?
i wouldn't care about it, but i get my Rogue-Expansion 3 Days ago and the support by NCsoft...well there isn't a support^^
Now it looks as i had payed money for nothing because CoX thinks, my GTS250 sucks and nothing works to get it work
i can't enter Safemode at the beginning of the starting thing, because my keyboard activates later (something in the BIOS O.ô).
