Fire/Kin Build - Farming / Team Play

Hey guys, thanks for the info on the last thread but I decided to go with the Fire/Kin and it's coming along great so far

I am just wondering if anyone can post a build they use for Farming / Team Play

if it has IO info then that would be great, but I can only spend between 2-3bil on the build so anything that is cheap enough and will do the job until I can earn more inf will be great !

also what ancillary is best to take? I like the look of Fire, but if it's no good then I guess I can use a different one

edit: I also have Ninja run so I would love to fly for once (I always use super speed and super jump on my toons) so anything with that in would be great too =]

I know there are alot of other threads about builds, but they are mostly from people asking for advice on their own build, and people reply saying "switch this, switch that" but the end builds aren't really being shown so it's confusing me trying to work out my own

thankyou,

Whoooo.... expensive, and not even a very good build.

Luck of the Gambler: Recharge's were selling for around 100 mil the last time I had checked. Absolute Amazement is one of the cheaper purple sets so each piece of it will sell for around 50-60 mil. Gaze of the Basilisk you should be able to get most pieces fairly reasonably, but the last time I saw the quad piece for sale it was running 100+ mil. Miracle: Recovery is easily 100+ mil. I would place my guess well over 1.5 billion.

There are a lot of odd ball things going on with that build too. The Regenerative Tissue in Health is unnecessary. Slotting Jump in Inertial Reduction is mostly pointless. Siphon Power is an odd pick when you have Fulcrum Shift up every 20-some seconds. I assume that the power order is just random and not for leveling up, in which case it would be very poor.

could you maybe post a good build for me Ketch?

something with IOs that would cost me about 2bil would be great, but i can go to 3 if its realllyyyyy needed

If this is going to be your main toon, spending "only" 2 billion on it is fine. But if this is a farming/teaming build, you really shouldn't be spending more than 100 to 150 million on it, at most. Why? Because the purpose of a farm build is to MAKE money, not suck it down the drain.

Again, if this is going to be your main build, fine, be all crazy-go-nuts and spend the cash. Otherwise, try a cheap smashing/lethal soft-capped build. Here is one that doesn't have Cinders, but it has absolutely everything else you'd really need on a team.

I haven't played CoH for atleast 3 years, and the Inf was given by a friend who quit. but when talking to other players, they made it sound like 2billion wasn't very much in the game now

so it's actually alot?

I was led to believe that you couldn't IO a char with much less than what I have

I am looking to play one char as my main really, I have an old fully IO'd Psy/EM blaster which doesn't need any work on it right now, so I am just looking for something else to spend my time on

will a Fire/Kin benefit much from having so much spent on it? or should I keep the spending down on it

also, how much will that build cost which you posted? it seems good but im not sure of the price as I haven't used WW recently

if it's a lower budget build, could you maybe change a few things to make it worth 1bil-ish?

I could then IO another toon with my spare Inf

sorry if it seems like I am asking too much, I admit I am nooby, I have played since 2004 but I stopped around 2007 so I am very rusty with what's good to use and I would prefer to get help from people who know how to play than do it myself and end up wasting my influence

thanks,

That Lewis... such a good man.

I'd make a few tweaks to his build, mostly slotting Fire Cages for damage and endurance. Though I'd also drop Reactive Armor out of Tough, and move 3 slots to Boxing for Smashing Haymaker. Then you can toss the extra slot into Hot Feet with a proc. You'll lose just a touch of recharge, but you'll stay at the soft cap and do more damage.

Most importantly, this build is easily obtainable, a.k.a. cheap.

As for your question:

Yes, 2 billion is a lot... and yet not a lot. It depends on who you ask. I made 1 billion with my main a few months ago and have used that to IO a few other toons. However, I also ran a lot of TF's and used merit rolls to acquire a lot of the pieces I need. However, there are PVP IO's out there that sell for 2 billion.

Fire/kins were the farmers even before IO's hit. Now they just do it better. Remember that all the current content is balanced around using SO's.

Lewis's build is relatively cheap. The Miracle: Recovery, as I said, will run about 100 million. If you are patient with your bids I would say you could have the whole build for less than 500 million easily. Heck, I even want to say 300 million.

2 billion is still 2 billion.

For most "solid" builds you really only have to spend a couple hundred million.

"Leet/Uber" builds will get into the billions.

Ketch,

I do like your idea about Smashing Haymaker. I'd hate to lose the resistance for Tough tho. I do, on rare occasion, get double whacked by something nasty, so its nice to have. Still, great idea!

I also meant to say that for people who absolutely must have Cinders in the build, I came up with a (very close to) soft-capped version that includes it. The build does lose 6.25% global recharge from my first build, and you have to rely on a BOTZ knockback in super speed, and move combat jumping to level 50, but again, this is something you'd do ONLY if you absolutely had to have Cinders while being soft-capped and while having tough.

EDIT: by the way, I'm not using the newest Mids planner (1.703) because it is all kinds of jacked up. Controller and Defender numbers are way out of whack. Also I noticed that it lists the damage from Blind as being like 600 or something nuts. So, I'm still using the previous planner. I mention this because if Mids is showing 48.3% smashing/lethal defense, you have the new (wrong) version. The actual smashing/lethal is 44.7%. Still right at the cap, but I wanted people to be aware.

Great =] I think I'll go with that build then

I did just want to farm with it, so I guess it's better to make it cheaper and save the inf to spend on other toons I might make

thanks for all the help guys

Actually its a lot cheaper. I went with the first (non-Cinders) build I posted, but I didn't actually put the Miracle Recovery in the build. I have a habit of just throwing it in there when I plan a build, but I don't always actually purchase it. I found that since I have transference, I didn't actually need it.

Anyway, my build (with some patient bidding and NO Miracle Recovery) cost me about 130 million.

Now, that 130 million was as low as it was because I used AE tickets to buy all my rare salvage. However, the good thing was that I just did a lot of AE stuff with SOs while I was leveling up. In fact, you can farm on a fire/kin even without smashing/lethal defense, it just isnt as safe. So, I did a bunch of AE farming to level myself from 38 to 50. I used my tickets to buy all the salvage I'd need at 50, and just played on SOs until I hit level 47.

So the build was truly 'on the cheap'.

Lewis

Bump

sorry I know I shouldn't, but WW is down so I can't check the prices and I would like to start gathering my salvage if the build is possible to make

When you get into purples, it's really hard to pair down a price tag. The cheapest ones there (Absolute Amazement) run about 60 mil for a single piece. Some of the more in demand pieces go for 100-150 mil. Assuming a modest value of 100 mil for a purple that build is going to cost more than 3 billion.

Beyond that, it's also a fairly flawed build. Slots are wasted in Siphon Speed in order to gain a defense bonus and it relies on an old bug that allowed the +Regen from Numina's and Regenerative Tissue to be enhanced by Heal enhancements in the same power. For all the influence needed to throw into you can achieve better results with a cheaper build.

and are there any IO's which are cheaper than the purples I posted, but better than the ones Lewis posted?

I would like to perma hasten if possible

Kitty,

You won't be achieving perma-hasten cheaply. Also, the whole point of my build is to be a cheap farm build that has capped smashing/lethal defense. You can find places to put in more expensive IOs, but to what end? There may be a build that has perma-hasten (with or without siphon speed) that is also soft-capped to smashing-lethal, but it will probably cost you more than 1 billion. Possibly lots more.

Your desires are at cross purposes. As I'm sure you know, you can have 2 builds in the game and swap between them. You might want to make one of them a cheap version like mine for farming, and then fill out the other one later with a perma-hasten build that doesn't concern itself at all with smashing/lethal defense.

About the only place you could spend a bit more money in my build without starting to get into full purple sets (which can cost half a billion to 2 billion per set) is to put 4 basilisks gaze in char. A/H, R/H, E/R/H and A/E/R/H. Then in the 5th slots go with the Lockdown A/E/R/H. That will add 7.5% global recharge to the build. Pick up the miracle recovery and pay for your salvage out of pocket and you'll be to the half-billion point, easily.

Kitty, I need to ask you. What exactly do you want?

A farming build?

An expensive build for the sake of being expensive?

Perma-Hasten? Why? Neat trick? To say you have it?

You seem to be all over the place with what you want. Just because something is more expensive doesn't necessarily make it any better for a build. It depends on what your needs are. If it costs you $1.50 but gets you what you need/want, who cares if there is something out there that costs 10 times that.

It sounds to me like you're getting advice here, then getting contradictory advice elsewhere. My guess is you are probably running AE farms leveling up your fire/kin and people are telling you they have a 3 billion dollar build and you have to have that [insert IO set because its expensive] and blah blah blah, but you are coming here to tweak your build based on what you are hearing from them. We are more than happy to give you advice and help you with your build, you just need to focus and give us more/all information so we help you better.

I don't want an expensive build for the sake of being expensive. I just want the best one I can make with the amount I have. I am going to use this as my main char for everything i do in the game, so spending all my time and money on it is all I will do anyways

I am not planning to run farming missions over and over, just enjoy the game with the best my char can be (obviously not the best possible, I know it will cost alot to fully purple it)

but I would like to make the most with what I have (2billion inf + 17k tickets atm)

so I only asked if someone could change a few sets of Lewis's build to have a bit better recharge. I see it is soft capped, but the recharge could be better
the build looked fine for a budget toon which would be used to farm for other alts. but this is going to be my one and only toon I play so I would like to spend more on it rather than play a budgeted built toon and have spare inf not being used

here is another build I found which seems good, but I am unsure of how much it would cost since WW is down and I can't check prices myself, and having not used WW in years, I don't know the prices off the top of my head.

here is the build (I heard the numina etc don't work together now, so I could always remove those if they don't):

I'd also like to note that you (and others) to maybe want to be careful in creating uber expensive builds with GR about to come out. We don't know exactly what the Incarnate system has in store, but I'd hate to spend a lot of Inf on a build only to have something come along for the Incarnate system that negates the need for spending that much.

IMO perma-hasten for a Fire/Kin is overrated. I'd go with Lewis's suggestion of a high defense build. You'll save a ton of inf and have a very effective farmer. Also, unless you just want a "leet" build, I wouldn't spend any inf on expensive +Recovery or +Regen IOs. With Transfusion and Transference they're simply not needed.

You seriously don't need anything other than soft-capped Defense to be the King of Farmville. You don't even need that, depending on how hardcore you want your farming to be. I leveled up my Fire/Kinetics from 45-50 solo-farming, since I was within spitting distance of the S/L soft-cap and it was honestly faster (and more profitable) than teaming.

is the latest build I posted an expensive one?

the recharge on it seems great and it's over the Defence cap by quite a bit

but it doesn't look that different from the build Lewis posted

I didn't know about the new Incarnate thingy in GR so I don't want to spend all my inf since it probably will go to waste

but if the build I posted isnt too expensive then I'll just make that. but if it is then I'll just stick with the IO's Lewis uses

I know the build has IO's in it for recovery etc, so I could remove those if you guys think they aren't worth it

There is very little information about the Incarnate System. I was just putting a friendly warning out there, I'd hate for you to spend 2 billion inf only to find out "Doh! I need uber inf now for my Incarnate blah blah blah." or "why did I spend 2 billion inf on that build when I could have just done {x} for the Incarnate system and gotten the same thing". The truth is noone really knows, and it may not make any difference if you spend a bunch or not. I'm just saying be careful blowing your wad of cash now.

I think a bigger question is: what level is your fire/kin now?

it's level 50 now

that's why I wanted to have a build ready to slot and IO when WW is back up
