Some of the customization you described is limited at character creation time, but not because you're on a trial account. Capes are unlockable at level 20 normally, although there are some capes you can unlock through a Veteran Reward (I forget after how many months) and some you can unlock through purchasable Boosters. There are some robes in the game but they're not the flowing type you'd prefer. Costume Auras are also limited -- unlockable at level 30. And there are a number of unlockable costume pieces. (By the way, ParagonWiki is your friend, but make sure you never visit the Wikia version, as it's plagued by malware. The correct URLs are paragonwiki.com or wiki.cohtitan.com.)
No staff powerset (yet! the devs have said they want to do it at some point though). There are several weapon sets that Tankers, Brutes, Scrappers and Stalkers get -- Broadsword, War Mace, Battle Ace, Dual Blades, Katanas -- all of which can be customized (there are other weapon sets like this but these are the ones that fit what you described).

I'm not entirely sure if there are restrictions on costume parts for trial accounts, but I can tell you that there are no Full Robe costumes for players. Some of the enemy types have them (mostly the Circle of Thorns, but players do not have access to them.
And the only way to have a holdable item or weapon is to pick a weapon powerset (Like Katana, War Mace, Broadsword, Assault Rifle, etc.) at character creation.

I was wondering, since right now I'm on a trial account, trying out the game and all, am I limited to customization of my character? Like the clothes for costumes; Capes, robes, etc.
I really-really wanted to build a costume with like full-on robe, not half-an'-half but like a robe from top to bottom, bottom to the feet. Where as right now it only allows me to have a robe that a a little above knees.
Oh and I was wondering if it was possible to obtain some sort staff or like an item that you can hold in your hands?
