Sniffle....another great one passed....
We look at his work now and claim that he butchered anime, but many people don't realize that in his day and age, such Americanizing was required, often even mandated by the executives. Those hack and slash jobs and wholecloth scripts were necessary to get the fans of the day to buy into anime at all. Macek was one of the early ones who paved the way for what anime has become today, Robotech being his everlasting flagship example.
You will be missed.

"You know what I love? People who respond with aggression and belligerence thinking it replaces logic." - Blue Mourning
Most of the people that decry him as a butcher would never have seen anime in the first place if not for him or his cadre.

Requiescat in pace. In the spirit of not speaking ill of the dead, there's some discussion of Renaming the Macekre trope on TVtropes.org.
I can't claim to be familiar with any of his works, but if you feel strongly about the issue and are already a registered Troper, please feel free to drop in on the Macekre discussion page and contribute to the impromptu voting.

as Ood Sigma said....We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.
