Dark/ defense levels

I was wondering what peoples experience with Dark blast and defensive values was. I hit the soft cap for S/L on my Dark/Sonic build(mid's only ATM), but since I can lead in with tenebrous tentacles/night fall/liquify/anything that lowers to hit I was curious if I really needed to hit the soft cap. I would try and figure it out myself but I don't know exactly how to hit and accuracy are related(it's been a long time since I paid attention to stuff like that).

to summarize, how solid is relying on my dark blasts to cap my defense, and what level should I get my defenses too so they can be capped after I lower their to-hit.

Depends on a lot of factors. Your tohit debuffs will suffer reduced effectiveness vs +level enemies due to the purple patch.

I personally wouldn't rely on the aoe tohit debuffs of dark blast to contribute more than 5% ish defense to your build. Over the course of a fight they will certainly provide more than that, but it is the initial burst that will matter most. You'll only be able to hit them with TT before they all respond and roll a tohit against you.

So ya, I'd personally value the aoe tohit debuffing at no more than 4-5% defense and then let the rest of the value compensate for def debuffs or tohit buffs from the enemy..

Thanks a lot, that's exactly what I was looking for. It'll at least help me get my initial build down till I can actually start testing it.

I agree with this. I have a Dark/Sonic I'm quite fond of. It's a little sad that the blasts can't be relied on to do more, but hey even if they're not needed for your protection at least they're helping your teammates...or something.

Still with mez protection, defense, some small amount of resistance, and a self-heal, you'll have yourself a damn solid toon. If things look like they might get ugly, you can open with [Liquefy], and with that much -tohit anything not an AV will be floored.

IMHO Purple patch is does not become any real issue untill you start fighting +3-4, otherwise you will still get at least 70-80% effectiveness from the debuffs.

It's already been mentioned that some mobs will resist the Acc debuff because of their levels, and this particularly true of AVs. Additionally, your to-hit debuffs only count on people that you've successfully hit.

Playing against even-con mobs, you can probably rely upon TT and NF to debuff a mob by ~5%, meaning you're basically softcapped if your Def is ~40%.

However, since the difference between 40% and 45% is so profound, and there'll be times that you're shot at by something you haven't debuffed, I'd stick to the 45% if you can achieve it.
