Claws/Energy Aura build - Too much recharge I think?

Good evening all, I wonder if I can have your advice?

My current project is a Claws/Energy Aura Brute, he is level pacted with an Ice Blast/Cold Domination Corruptor. I won't be playing without his partner, which means that even my slightly sub softcap defence will be more than capped.

My problem is that I've taken every attack, as they all seem pretty useful, and I'm really concerned that I have too much recharge to use all these attacks.

I've already acquired the IO's for the build, but at level 28, I've not used any of them yet and I'm just concerned that uber recharge isn't the way to go.

Could you take a look and let me know what you think?

I don't feel the need for purple sets just yet, as this will be my first toon to make it to 50 redside. I just want to get the most out of Energy Aura and Claws.

Your help is appreciated Never asked for advice before, I'm a little nervous!

I think you have taken focus way too late in your build. It really should be taken as soon as possible. Maybe move taunt back to 41 to take it. It does good damage and the knockdown is great for bouncing bosses and other tough enemies

Here is my 2 cents.
While not a bad build... it is alot more expensive then it needs to be without really improving your toon much. The extremly expensive miracle recovery proc is a waste on EA because of energy drain. You will have limitless endurance...you do not need that IO.
ThE obliveration sets in your aoes are also very expensive...is the extra 10% recharge really worth it. I suggest replacing the obliteration sets for the eradication sets. Just 4 slotted will give u a very nice energy defense bonus and HP bonus. Last time i checked eradication sets were cheaper than oblivion.
Buying all those LOTG is entirely up to you. I personally do not get them for my brutes but alot of other people do. For EA the most important thing is to get your typed defenses soft capped. I have a 50 wm/ea brute that actually was not very expensive to soft cap at all. After defenses i went for HP and regen bonus'. I do not have alot of recharge in the build nor do i really feel i need it.
This is just my opinion though.

I agree with devil dingo that your first priority is to make sure you're soft-capped for S/L/E defense, and in this build you're a little low. There are also a number of other things that could be improved. From the top:

It seems a little odd that you would 5-slot Kinetic Shield and Power Shield and 3-slot Tough and Weave; especially since Tough and Weave have a higher endurance cost. Personally, I don't think all that recharge is necessary, but if you want it, 4 slot KS, PS, and Weave (and even Energy Cloak if you've got the infamy) with LotG Def, Def/End, Def/End/Rchg, +Recharge. If you want to save some Infamy, replace the +Recharge with the Def/Rchg

Instead of Aegis in Tough, 4-slot it with 4 Reactive Armor, which will put you closer to the soft-cap for S/L/E.

I agree that you're taking Focus (and Follow-up) way, way too late; they both should be taken as soon as they're available. The Fighting Pool and Taunt can easily be delayed so you can fit them in.

With just the Kinetic Combat set and the proc in Slash, it's underslotted for accuracy and damage. I'd add a Acc/Dam or Acc/Dam/End from another set. Focus is also underslotted for damage.

Even with the Reactive Armor set in Tough, you're still a little low for S/L/E defense, so I'd slot a Smashing Haymaker or Kinetic Combat set in Strike, with a fifth slot from another set. And as devil dingo suggested, you should swap out one of the Obliteration sets for Eradication to get the E/NE bonus. I'd suggest either 3 or 4 slots of Erad, plus two from another set with additional end reduction. (Two Scirocco's is a good choice for the 10% regen bonus.)

Overload is way, way overslotted for defense. Even with no defense enhancement you'd be at over 80% defense when Overload is on, so I think those slots could be used better elsewhere.

EA absolutely does NOT need KB protection, so the Steadfast -KB in Dampening Field is a waste of infamy. I'd keep the Steadfast +Def, drop the other two Steadfasts, add a slot, and move the Aegis set you had in Tough to DF.

Lastly, Energy Protection provides so little resistance that I don't think it's worth a power pick. Just get something useful like Super Jump instead.

Here's what your build would look like with the changes I suggested:

Since you always have a cold domination corruptor with you, soft-capping defense is not really necessary. I think recharge helps a bit, but not very crucial for energy aura. Below are my suggestions:

1. You can take darkest night. The to-hit debuff is not really necessary for you. But your corruptor can be slotted for IO defense bonus such that mobs' to-hit chance against your corruptor will be floored. This will make your team stronger as a whole. Darkest night also has a damage debuff, which is good for you. (You probably need some perception bonus, either from IO or tactics. Darkest night drops when you're blinded by mobs, which is pretty common on the red side)

2. Next is resistance. I don't think much can be done for resistance with IO. So, all you can do is to take tough and the resistance passives. I see that you took them already.

3. For IO bonus, you can put some emphasis on +hp. Brutes have high hp cap, there is still room after you're buffed by frostwork. This can help you take a few hits by tough mobs.

4. Even with soft-capped defense, you'll get hit no matter what. I think you can take aid self. Aid others and stimulant are useful too, in particular if your team is mostly a dual.
