I can get CoH to load, but within minutes it either freezes up my entire system... or triggers a reboot. I dont get it. I tried running CoH Helper to get the information to troubleshoot all this but when i tried running it it gives an error and shuts down before it even starts.

Ive gone to system requirements lab and it says im wel above minimum specs. If anyone could perhaps help me get CoH Helper running i could post a log from that.

Out of curiosity, how much RAM do you have, and how much free space is on your hard drive? A very cluttered/full drive can cause programs to crash or not start at all. Even if it seems like there should be enough free space, it can cause performance to suffer if it's not defragged.

If that's the case, try removing stuff you don't need like Temporary internet files, pictures/videos/music that you have saved in other places or might be able to save to discs, flash drives or another hard drive. Empty your recycle bin and defrag your drive, then try it again.

As far as CoH_Helper problem goes, the website does state the following:

Quote:
I would suggest you try to run the program and, if you immediately get an error, then you probably need to get the framework. Microsoft's 2.0 Framework can be found here or you could search Microsoft's site for an even more recent version of the framework. (Version 2.0 is the last version that works with Windows 2000.)
If you don't think memory or drive space is the problem, I'd probably start with that... although it doesn't hurt to do "spring cleaning" on your drives once in a while anyway.

Once you get CoH_Helper running, you can also provide us with a HiJack This report as well.

Did you install Microsoft's 2.0 Framework, as I linked above?
After doing so, does CoH_Helper still not work for you?

Never Fear. TweakCoH is here. This will allow you to set your graphics settings BEFORE you launch CoH.

Turn off Bloom, Water Effects to Low or Off (being an older card, I'd recommend Off), turn off Vertical Sync, turn off Desaturation Effects, turn off the ingame settings for Anisotropic Filtering. Lower your Particle Detail to 25050.

Your sound driver installation is out of whack, indicated by the funky date.

Is that the full HiJackThis log? Much of it seems to be missing.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

yea thats the full log. I'll try those settings and see how it helps.

Still having problems. Actually froze at the login screen this time

Took a look at the suggestions for ATI cards and ran the Catalyst Control center. Set all my settings to match the suggestions (with some sliders turned down to account for my lower performance) and I still Restart within minutes of loading the game. Sometimes my system freezes instead of restarting but it usually restarts

Don't recall ever seeing a HJT log with only 2 services and no O4 entries at all. I'm used to seeing an O4 entry or two from some of the ATI software.

I've got no clue at this point.

For comparison, my report is 2601 bytes and only contains 2 Services as well (one for a MB app and one for NVidia), and only 2 O4 entries (both NVidia also).

Maybe he just runs a REALLY clean system. lol

Question to the Almighty Tech Geeks.

My power supply is an Aspire ATX-AS420W

Could that be insufficient? Some of the stuff i found online said it was kind of a junk supply.

Considering you have an 2.0GHz Athlon 64 and an oldish ATI 9600 I would say it's not because of an underpowered PSU.

If it's dieing, that's another matter entirely.

For anyone who helped me Id like to say thank you. I finally solved the problem and its one that is so stupid i actually feel bad.

The first set of motherboard drivers i had downloaded were corrupted so whenever the motherboard tried to communicate with the videocard it had a breakdown and triggered a restart. Upon completely wiping the old drivers and installing new ones it works fine now. Thanks for all your attempts to help.

Glad you got it working.
