Video Driver Cry for Help
I'm seeing pieces of ATI software in the running processes and in the O4 sections.
If it were me, I'd uninstall any ATI display drivers, CCC, and software entries from Add/Remove Programs. I'd reboot into Safe Mode to run DriverCleaner and let it remove the extraneous ATI files. Reboot into normal mode cancelling new hardware wizards, then shut down Spybot, ZoneAlarm and Avast, as well as any other stuff running in the background, THEN install the ATI drivers.
Since you don't list the video card you have, I can't really check anything on that. I'm assuming you aren't doing this on a laptop either.

You basically described exactly what I did the first time around (and second, and etc.) I did NOT to turn off SpyBot, Avast, and ZoneAlarm, so I'll try that this time around. Thanks for advice!

I've seen Anti-virus and other protection measures foul up more than just driver installs. What's really bad is when everything looks like it is running ok and then you use a different feature of the software a month or so later and find that everything is really hosed. Including all of your data files.

Dear god. No change whatsoever. There is no evidence ANYWHERE that the install was successful. But if I attempt to reinstall, it says that everything is there and working fine...except there's nothing there. Nothing anywhere. Nothing in the ATI folder, nothing runs from the command line, no tray icons, nothing in the usual spots. Other than the "this software is installed and working fine" message, you'd think I never had a video driver or Catalyst suite to begin with.

Not sure what to suggest at this point. Unless someone else comes in with something it may be that you need to post this on the ATI forums. I'm not sure if it should go under the Radeon section or the Catalyst section. I'll leave that for you to decide.
Best of luck and sorry I couldn't be of more help.

It's appreciated. Maybe someone else reading this thread will have encountered this problem as well.
Also, installed a much older version of the drivers and CCC and voila--not a single issue.
So. Roughly back where I started.

After briefly scanning their forums, I found this thread with a possible solution at the bottom. Since the description of the problem seems similar to yours it shouldn't hurt. Since I still don't know what card you have, I can't tell how applicable it may be.
Not sure if I'll be able to copy/paste the entire last post, but I'll try.

This is needed for CCC to run.
Restart the system and then try reinstalling the drivers, should work hopefully.

OMG that sounds exactly like what is going on for me. I can't wait to try this. THANK YOU.

Additional tip, if you run the installer from add remove programs, prior to an uninstall and select modify you can remove old ati/ccc components prior to a re-install.
This has the advantage of fixing a faulty CCC that says it's ok but won't load giving a couple of flickers of the cursor before doing nothing else.
You uninstall that module (CCC) after a reboot you can re-run the installer from ati/vendor and it will fully install a fully working CCC.
Had to do this myself going from 9.8 to 10.2 drivers/software.
Everything updated except CCC.
Am using Win XP Home SP3 32 Bit.
But am sure it is similar for Vista/Win 7 32/64 bit.

Have you tried loading updated video drivers *without* CCC? I haven't seen this problem recently, but I do recall once having a problem loading the full package of drivers + stuff from ATI and ended up just loading the video driver without the extras and without the control panel. That loaded fine, and then I did other stuff later to load the rest of the extras and the control panel separately.

I'll see if I can update just the driver, and not the whole CCC suite, though. Thanks for the idea, Ms. A!

No dice. Nothing happens with the 10.1 install--exactly the same as the full CCC install. I checked on the driver version number aaaaaand: 8.593.100.0.
So, apparently I don't even have the 9.11s installed. I can't understand this.

Also, screensavers no longer work. They only show up in a thin band across the top of the monitor. Minor gripe in all of this mess, but...just weird.

Here's an idea: disconnect from the internet while you're uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. There's a SLIGHT chance that your computer is automatically "updating" your drivers from Windows Update without telling you (depending on what your security and windows settings are), or it's pulling compatible drivers from its driver library.

I am having the exact same issue and have done the above steps. Raedon 4670. I CANNOT get any driver to load besides the 8.x drivers that came with the install disk.
For obvious reasons, time to update my video card drivers. Been letting it go for a while, but it's time I updated them. Solicited advice from players, and tried to remember how I've done it in the past. Simple, yes?
No.
Apparently...not good enough. I've now royally ****** over my computer. I've spent the better part of two hours trying to get my video drivers back--ANY drivers would be fine. Into the double-digits for compy reboots, too.
Did what I said I would do, and what was instructed--downloaded new drivers (ATI CCC 10.1s), uninstalled old drivers, driver-cleanered, booted to safe mode, driver-cleanered, attempted to install. No go. In normal performance mode, it SAYS it is installing...but then there is nothing there. Nothing anywhere. And a search of the computer finds...no CCC suite, no ATI materials anywhere. So the display is running off of the basic VGA adapter. Posting on the forums alone is like trying to chisel on a rock tablet.
I keep installing, and nothing is happening. It LOOKS like it is installing...but at the end of it all and the forced reboot: nothing. Open to ANY suggestions.
