How do you build a Tri-Form Warshade?

Ok, I'll bite once more, and dip into the Ex-Nicto pool of darkness and badass.

However, the main problem I run into is this;
What does one aim for in a Triform Shade?
Is the human form basically a holder for things like Mire and Eclipse, before switching to whichever form is appropriate at the time? Or is it more subtle than that, with a balance needed between the three?

Basically, using Mids and whatnot, I need to know a few key things;

-Which powers to take as soon as they arrive?
-Which powers to avoid like grim(er) death?
-What to aim for in slotting?

Any and all help is much appreciated.

Human form is quite subtle, and it can take a bit to get used to knowing when and where to use what. I use mine (keep in mind I'm referring to a purpled tri-form - but my playstyle is still close to what I was doing when I had SO's) for control, buffs, and damage when appropriate. Maybe it'll be a clearer if I can answer some of your questions.

Powers to take ASAP for a tri-former:
-Dark Nova -> do a respec asap also and slot your first several enhancements into Nova attacks (Nova will be your main source of damage through the teens)
-Hasten
-Starless Step -> this one's slightly optional later on, but highly useful before you get other control powers to deal with Q's/V's
-Sunless Mire -> will take a few slots to be effective, and until you have more controls, my advice is to save it for teams
-Shadow Cloak/Superspeed go well together for stealth
-Gravity Well -> really fast activating hold and great damage
-Black Dwarf -> will take throughout the early/late 20's to start to slot and build this one up to where it's more useful
-Stygian Circle -> because your end problems will go away with it
-Gravitic Emanation -> makes soloing a piece of cake, and easily permable
-Dark Extraction -> most damaging pets blueside, last I've heard
-Quasar -> double Mire + Nuke + blue + Stygian and you're golden
-Eclipse -> capped resistance while doing all of the above. 'Nuff said

The shields are largely useless for a tri-former. You want to be quick and agile, and toggling on shields is just going to be slow. IMO, depending on Nova with it's knockback is going to be safer and quicker to solo early on. Later, there's really no need with all the control available.

Nebulous, Inky, Shadow Blast, and Unchain are all good optional picks if you end up having room.

Nebulous is a good power to use in a crisis or just bunch up mobs around you before Eclipse and Mire + Nova/Nuke. Inky can be combined to use with Gravitic to stun bosses. Unchain is a human AoE that requires a corpse, also does KB and a stun. IMO, Unchain isn't that great - fire the two Nova AoE's, and you'll be doing more damage with less hassle, and they'll be up a lot sooner. But there are plenty of people who like it.

Dark Detonation - meh, same argument as above...doesn't do enough damage to justify the slots and power pick, IMO.

Slotting: (here's where you gotta get sneaky)

Nova form:
The form itself...I didn't slot too much while leveling, and my build now just has a Fly/Endurance IO in it.
I've never slotted the Nova Bolt. Seriously, a single Acc works fine, slot it if you want if/when you have extra slots available. Do slot it if you plan on PvPing, the two single target attacks in Nova are beasts.
The Blast and AoE's take more priority, get them going early with standard attack slotting.

Sunless Mire has good priority soon after you get it.
Gravity Well and Gravitic Emanation - high priority, try to at least 4 slot quickly. (Emanation I would hinge on 6 slotting ASAP, filling them with Acc/Rech/Stun IO's, and viola, you have a perma mag 3 AoE stun, soloing is now stupid easy)

Dwarf:
The form could use 3/4 slots for Resist, Endurance, even End Mod if you want, fairly early.
The attacks will slowly be slotted for...I'd prolly go Mire, Drain, Smite fairly evenly, and then Strike when those are going well.
Dwarf's attacks will be slotted out slowly, you might be done by the early 40's.

The Pets, Quasar, and Eclipse can do okay with 4 slots in them early on.

Once you get into the 40's, you will start to fully fledge out your attacks, going from 4 to 6 slots in some powers. The last 4 powers you pick (I have Hurdle and Swift for instance) don't have to require any slots, so that's when you finish slotting any more needy powers.

Here's a skeleton of a build, take at look at when the slots are put into each power...that's close to what I would run if leveling a new 'shade.

I'm definitely not the most experienced WS, but I can give my opinions. For me, human form doesn't do much as far as dmg goes. I use it for the mire, eclipse, nuke, pets, stygian circle, hasten, and of course to blow up some dead bodies. That's a lot of stuff I guess, but it's only used for a few sec at a time. Most of my time is spent in Nova with Dwarf being used when needed (tanking or double mire).

As far as powers that should be taken as soon as available: Dark Nova, Sunless Mire, Stygian Circle, and Eclipse. There's other stuff that's really good to take as soon as you can, but I'd say they are less crucial. Such as Black Dwarf, really good power, but at 20 it's really not that great imo, of course taking it early means being able to slot earlier. Dark Extraction is the other power I'd say get as soon as you can, but it's not absolutely critical either at the available level. Unchain Essence and Quasar are good powers as well, but they are probably (imo) the most push-backable of these powers. Really though, power selection isn't that tight and you can get most stuff when it becomes available due to getting 8 powers (10 if count taunt/tp) from Nova/Dwarf......it's the slotting that's tough. Honorable mentions go to gravity well and gravitic emanation, I'm not a huge fan of them, but they are definitely powers that can make life a little easier.

Powers too avoid (again imo) for a tri-form. All the shields and the blast powers. Orbiting Death is probably very easy to skip, but it looks awesome to me so I like it better than the other choices at that level. The other stuff is kinda take if you want it, but not a big deal either way. Like the rez, phase, etc.

Ok....had a look and threw together a Vanilla build (I always run through first time on Vanilla SO/IO, then move onto a Setted build)

Does this look any good? Given I have to respec at level 6/7 to get this to work, I would rather do it right;

You won't need Health nor Stamina. But if you do get them, you won't need extra slots. Stygian will refill your health and endurance after every single fight - or most of the time in the middle of fights as well. The only time health/stamina shines might be in AV fights - and you wouldn't be staying in human anyway for those (most likely), so health and stamina is still wasted.

Dwarf single target attacks are underslotted, and I could be pickier on other power slotting...but you'll get the feel of what or what isn't needed as you play.

Ok, was getting to the point of not knowing what the hell to take without gimping certian powers. Shades and PBs are always nightmares to build, for me anyhow.

That second build is pretty good Tech. Basically how I went too.

I did however take the shields early on, for surviving getting into Mire range and respecced them out at 22 (but I always respec every character at 22).

But that's basically the jist of it. The 40s are "fun powers which won't eat too many slots" because slots are precious on a Kheld. Frankenslotting can go a long way to getting the most from them.

Well, notice that the first two builds posted in that thread are mine. That goes a long way in getting other people to post their own versions. Personally, I've never given a build to someone who didn't put some effort into their own first (or, in one case, they paid me a billion inf).

Take these two statements:
"I want a great farming, AV soloing bots/traps build."
"I want to be great at farming and AV soloing with my bots/traps. This is what I came up with, where can I improve?"

I'm much more willing to help the second one.

Glad you liked it and got something from it. As warshades are very strategy and playstyle dependent and that thread touches on a large variety of them, it's a great place to direct people to. You're not the first person who's been handed that link.

Aye, I wish there was a way to trade in a power pick for, say, three slots. Would seriously help out on Kheldians, amongst others.

It's my understanding there are two Tri-Form strategies. One is to emphasise the forms, and just put slots into the Human form Powers that support the forms. Obviously Mire, Stygian Circle and Eclipse are top of the list, with Essense Drain as a second heal, and possibly Gravity Well or Gravimetric Snare for some control.

The other is to balance the slots between the three forms, and make up for the relative weakness by constantly shifting forms. Deal as much damage in Nova form as possible, while making sure the Human form attacks and Dwarf defenses are strong enough.

Personally, I use a little bit of both. I don't concentrate hard on Human form attacks, instead concentrating on the Dwarf attacks, backed up with double Mire. I will pop out for Essense Drain or Gravity Well, though, making sure they're both slotted well enough to do damage. It's a balance between being able to do adequate damage in any form you end up in, and spreading out the damage between the forms so much it's useless. I try to specialize with a few attacks, though, so I can shift forms and use each of them for max damage, or stay in a form and use some of the less slotted attacks.

Ok, loving the Trishade utterly. Now that I know she's a keeper, I've turned the attention to future IO slotting.

Question: Do set bonuses in forms carry over to human form, and other forms? If so, all good, if not; damn.

This is the build I've worked up so far, based on the build thats currently on live, with a few minor alterations;

Bit of a personal question, but I think it would help Techbot as well.

How useful is Starless Step for a Dual Form Kheldian, let alone a Triform? I suppose you could gank an annoying lieutenant or minion into your inky aspect aura or something, but it seems like it would be better to jump in suddenly. Either stelath into the mob with Inky Aspect or past the mob with Gravitic Emanation while you're leaping in. And so on (works for blasting with Nova, too).

Basically, I'm asking because I want to fit another power in, and maybe slide some others up earlier, and dropping Starless Step would help there.

*added*

Techbot, bonuses do carry over to the forms. It's just toggle powers and passives in human that do not carry to the forms. So Hasten is nice for the forms, but Stamina is only going to help you in the form.

Yeah, I picked a number of powers for being automatic and not needing many slots, to allow more room for the Form powers and things like Mire and Gravity well.

Starless step is good for hauling out Voids and Quantums, before smacking them in the face with a Gravity well and all manner of negative based death. That and its slot cheap. However it is perfectly skippable too.

For the build, there are some things that stick out to me. Disclaimer is that I tend to give build advice for tri-forms that tends to try to mold itself to what I've chosen to do on mine, which follows from how I play mine...

Basically, there are lots of 2-slotted things that I think work perfectly well with only 1 slot...Gravity Shield, Shadow Cloak, Stygian Return I would all take a slot out of.
*Do you really use Gravimetric Snare a lot? If not, that too.

To save money, the Celerity IO in Superspeed is kind of wasted, since you have Shadow Cloak available earlier, and the two do the same thing.

I'd recommend a -KB IO, put mine in one of my early shields as it's only slot.

Now, I'm guessing you want perma Eclipse. On my purpled shade, I have it within several seconds of safety - and I have ~88% global recharge and triple-slotted Hasten. My Eclipse is slotted with 2 Acc/Rech and 2 Res/Rech. So I'm guessing that your build at ~68% global and two-slotted hasten, there's a chance you won't have it perma.

To get there, you could slot Abs. Amazement in Gravitic Em or Inky - I haven't checked the price in a while, but if you can get the purple Hold set for Gravity Well, perhaps you could also get the Stun one for same/cheaper price. That puts you at ~78% or so...from there, perhaps finding a place for an LotG unique to fit, might require replacing a power though.
