ELM/SD... Scrapper or Brute?
I'd say scrapper. The extra ooomph of Shield Charge and Against All Odds makes them better for a scrapper, and both a Brute and a Scrapper have the same soft cap.
scrapper is better.
hmmm, double post. i'll use this chance to say that scrapper is better because of higher base damage.
Throw in another vote for scrapper, from someone that tried both and found the scrapper version to be much, much better (and the brute one is already a powerhouse). Higher base damage + higher damage mod + same caps + conserve power = scrapper wins.
Scrapper is better because with a Brute SC and LR don't do as much damge. the Brutes SC and LR damage cap is 400% while the Brutes damage cap is a lot higher. I have a Elec/SD Brute that I love and play a lot but I don't even need to hit build up with SC and LR because they wont do any more damage with it.
Scrapper all the way. SD is the only set that brutes and scrappers both have and that I'd never play on a brute since the scrapper does so much more damage.
I would say scrapper as well you can get melt armor which will fit a nice set of shield breakers for the +def and also you get fire ball which has a chance to crit and if you put a rag proc in it has a chance to help mitigate dmg by keeping them on their backs, so IMHO I would go with the scrapper for a easier def cap to reach with shield breakers and the extra dmg from a fire ball

AAO buffs base damage, Scrapper base damage is high, Brute base damage is low. Scrapper wins.
SC and LR use pet damage caps, Brute easily hits the pet damage cap with enh, Fury and AAO so their higher damage cap doesn't factor in for SC and LR, Scrapper wins.
Higher Brute hp not a big factor since softcapped is softcapped, more or less a wash.
Fireball >>> Dark Obliteration or Ball Lightning, Scrapper wins.
As much as I love vills, SD and especially this combo is much, much better for Scrappers than Brutes.

Elec/Shield is one of the few combinations I'd recommend a Scrapper over a Brute for.

/SD is the only set besides Stone Armor I don't even consider for my brutes, and I looooove SMASHING stuff. Brutes otherwise outperform scrappers with equivalent sets but with /SD that's numerically impossible, and indeed the other way arround. /SD does give brutes the best damage they can get, but when I compare it to a scrapper... I almost cry.
So I have this self-imposed rule about not duplicating powersets within an AT, which means even though I really want to play an ELM/SD scrapper, I already have a DM/SD, so when ELM came to blue-side, I made him ELM/SR. That's fine, it let's me play with more powers and power combos w/my altitis, but I was still missing the AoE goodness that was ELM/SD.
Then came news of GR and the realization that I can just roll up an ELM/SD brute and bring him over to blue-side (I should mention, I really dislike playing red-side and my highest vil atm is like 27). So the question is, how do the ELM/SD scrappers & brutes stack up with each other?
Just as a point of reference, here's a quick ELM/SD build. I already posted a similar question on the Brute boards, but that was more about ELM vs. SS. Here, I'm more interested in how the same power combo compares bet. the two ATs, and not about the build itself.
