New Computer - What Graphics Card Should I Use?
Believe it or not, the integrated 9100 is probably going to be just a tiny bit more powerful than a 6200. The Desktop 6200 has a theoretical performance of 1,200 or 1,400 Megatexels if you had the overclocked (it really wasn't) version. The Geforce 9100 has a theoretical Megatexel performance of 1,700.
Usually I would say it's a no brainer, a discrete card over an integrated GPU. But that 6200 is a PCI card, not a PCIe card (assuming you are linking to the right card). That'll be like trying to drink an extra thick shake through a swizzle stick. If it truly is a PCI video card, then stick with the integrated 9100.

I was pretty sure that the card I linked to was mine, but after looking at it again, I dunno... In the pics of the card, the part labeled as the "PCI Cardbus Connector" was different from what I remembered. I took my card out of my old case, and sure enough, it's not the same. My card's conenctor is one long part, and then a short part, while the one in the image is one short part, one long part, and then another short part. I took a pic of the card, and a closeup of the conenctor.

Here is the exact same card for sale online: http://www.fadfusion.com/selection.p...er=10161209304
OK, then I'll stick with the on-board card. And I just realized that the monitor is a TFT, and that the case has a DVI connection. I'll be powering down and switching over to DVI shortly.
Looks like the old card will be going to The Wife™ for her desktop.
Thanks for the help!

I met a lady once who said her big screen TV was good for the exact same thing.

If you can afford it, and you have a PCI-E slot in your new PC, I would recommend the NVIDIA 9800GT. I got mine for about 130 dollars a few months ago, though I'm sure the price on it has gone down since then. I would put the performance of it at near the top (if not the top) of mid-range cards.

Yeah, I hope to be able to put a card in some time down the road. Gonna be awhile before I might be in a position to be able to do it, though.

Well PCI isn't dead yet. At the very least you have a spare video card that isn't tied to PCIe or AGP that you can swap into a system if the existing video card dies. Good debugging tool.

Man, I sure have a lot of questions about this new computer... Thank goodness you guys know so much...
Anyway, my new computer came with an integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9100 "video card", but I have a BFG GeForce 6200 OC that was in my old computer.
Should put that into this computer, or just stick with the integrated card?
Thanks in advance!!
