I17 - EATs at 20? Clarification PLEASE!

EDIT: PLEASE DISREGARD. I put this thread in the wrong place.

I17 is coming - WOO!

That said, I'm wondering what this means:

"• Epic Archetypes now available at level 20"

Can we get a dev to clarify exactly what's going on here? Are we talking new EATs that open up at 20? Or are you dropping the required level to get the current ones down to 20? If the latter, that means I'll have access to both the Hero and Villain ones. It also means I'll probably never actually hit 50 with any character (which is fine, really).

So, yeah, clarification, please?

Considering the devs don't answer questions in the forum for players asking for player answers, I'll respond: They're not referring to a new set of EATs.

Can I guarantee that statement? No. I am neither a developer nor a tester. However, the likelihood of I17 introducing a new set of EATs is approximately nil.

Oops, yeah, probably wrong forum. Should I repost in Developer's Corner or something like that?

They're dropping it to 20 to unlock them - there won't be any new ones yet - but I'm guessing that there's a possibility there could be something Praetorian-related later.

OH! There's the thread I wanted. Thanks.

Please disregard this thread now.

And opening them up to the entire community. Not-lame!

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

I guess that's why they're busy with a new endgame system then?

The entire community (with the exception of trial accounts) has had the opportunity to get a toon to level 50 since Issue 1. The prerequisite for EAT's has been spelled out since their inception: "Get a toon to level 50" for Kheldians, and since changed to "get a toon of the same hero/villain faction to level 50." And judging by the endless litany of "AE farm team LFM!" broadcasts I see redside, it can't be THAT hard to get a VEAT.

The only thing they haven't dumbed down (yet) is Cimerora, and with this current trend, how long can it be? "I have to do a STORY ARC to get to that zone? But that's not fair!" Maybe they'll change it to "Just talk to Montague Castanella or Mercedes Sheldon." No, wait, that wouldn't be fair to the members of the community who didn't take a travel power! "That guy who took SJ can get there faster than me -- waaaaaah!"

Maybe the devs will take the newb-friendly attitude to the extreme: When a player hits a milestone like level 50 or a one year vet reward, they'll take an experience and/or inf/prestige earning PENALTY! (These would of course 'stack' with multiple years or multiple 50's.)

"Well, you've obviously learned how to earn xp and inf and prestige by now, and you're better at it than the new player! So for the sake of equality, you now have to work even harder for the same reward!"

Yeah, the new trend of "dumbing down" CoX and providing instant gratification IS lame, IMHO. I can't say as I like it as a player, and I'm not sure it's a good business strategy either. "If we give all the players EVERYTHING from Day One, and give them nothing to work towards, they'll be loyal, steady customers just because they love us!"

I suppose they'll be eliminating the markets and just providing free IO's of all kinds at the stores next -- generics, set IO's, purples. Because not everybody in the community has equal access to THOSE, either.

/sarcasm off

"But it wasn't anything some purples and oranges and lots of screaming in fear couldn't handle." -- Werner

30 level 50's: 12 scrappers, 7 other random melee types, 11 blaster/blapper/support squishies, two accounts, and a TON of altitis since 4/28/04

Datamining shows otherwise. The number of players with access to either Arachnos Soldiers or Kheldians is a small fraction of the number of players who do not, whether because the player is new or because they succumb to altitis. This is also why the EATs have traditionally been a low-priority item for development, and why the devs vowed to never again make an EAT unlock with a level 50 after they created the SoA -- too few people actually unlock them.

The vast majority of the people who are farming, AE or otherwise, already have level 50 characters. They're farming either because they dislike the low levels, because they want more loot, or because they want to make a character ready for PvP.

Consider this: lowering the EAT unlock requirements to 20 means many, many more people will have access to them. This means it will be more worth development time to improve them (see: large percentage of players with lv50 heroes who dislike Kheldians) or their stories (see: pathetic SoA arcs)

Also, the amount of players I've known to rush to fifty because they want the EATs, only to be disappointed when they realised they'd pretty much ruined a character they enjoyed is far too high. If this stops even one person a week from rushing a character to unlock an EAT, it'll be worth it in my opinion.

Also, I'm not just arguing for the sake of it, but I'm curious as to why you're concerned personally. From your 'easy-to-get-to-fifty' style of writing, I'd imagine you've already several fifties anyway. So how is it exactly that this negatively affects you?
