Trouble Downloading Test

I bought a new laptop, with Windows 7. I downloaded a client account of CoH off PlayNC.com, but now it won't let me make a shortcut to create the test client.

Reply removed as what I thought was working...didn't. Feh. Ditto issues with Win7 (64 bit here) and installing test client. Still toying with it though

I've got the Test client working on Win 7 without any issues. What I did was create another shortcut to the regular client updater on my desktop, then right click to change the Properties and added -test at the end of the target line (after the quotes containing the file path. Then I double clicked it, selected my install location and (in my case, because I had a pre-existing folder for it) allowed it to verify files and patch. Now, I did notice during this process that it deleted my modified shortcut and put a fresh shortcut to the regular installation on the desktop. So I opened this new shortcut, added the -test switch at the end of the Target line again, and I was good to go.

Now, depending on the way your UAC is set you may also have to go to the Compatability tab in Properties and check off "Run this program as an administrator". Do not, however, run it in compatability mode.

Hope this helps!

Edit: To make the shortcut I went into the installation folder for my regular installation, right clicked on the updater and selected "Send To" and then "Desktop (create shortcut)"

Yeah, I finally managed to get it working - same thing, shortcut to original on the desktop with the -test at the end of the target, copied all my city of heroes files to cohtest, let the updater run the test "install" and verified files and viola. Also had to fix the icon the updater put on the desktop with the -test thing again and it was all good.

(My original problem was that I forgot I couldn't run a shortcut to the cohtest copy of the updater to get it to "install" to cohtest. I didn't remember that it had to be a shortcut to the city of heroes folder's installation with the -test addon. So, it would attempt to install to cohtest but the updater was in use since I've just used it...like a moron )

How long did that take?
I'm on a new rig (Alienware), did the steps it said, added the -test, and I'm getting like a 10 hr load time...

Seriously?

Ah good, then it isn't just me. 10 hr here also. Guess it runs overnight tonight.

I've been having the same problems- Win7, and test has been verifying/fixing, etc all day (10 hrs so far) but still has 17 hrs to go (and I've got a wicked fast internet connection). At one point it said there were about 185 hrs to go though so at least it isn't that bad still.

For some reason my computer never flashes me the window that asks me to set the path to the new dir. I've tried this like a dozen times now, following the advice from three different sources.

I'm never gonna make it into the test server.

If I recall rightly, I ended up trying to alter the path in the Properties box itself. There's that line that says "Target" that you add the -test to, right? I then found another line called "Start In:" and I changed that by hand to point to my CoHTest dir. I then also copied my pigg files into that dir to save some time on the downloading. I started it and it began downloading stuff into the CoHTest dir (with only about 1.5 hours of wait time) and... I had to leave for work. :P

So right now I have no idea if this method worked or not and I won't know until I can go home in the morning, but you can give it a shot.

PS - thanks for getting my name right

What's weird is that I'm now having this problem. I went to test last night after doing the install thing and after it went through several connect #s. I get off of the test server, and then go to live servers to see/visit the unfortunate ones who couldn't make it in.

I tried going back in and it kept trying to connect. After Connect #354654135454634, I got fed up and I had to leave for work. Which is where I am now.

I know my wife couldn't get Test to work on her new rig which has Windows 7.

But I also have Windows 7 (32-bit) and it worked just fine on my PC and did a sewer run with a group last night. I logged off to go back to the live servers to see friends. Then when I tried going back, it kept giving me that connection #35468754357 crap. Tried again this morning and it still kept giving me that connection # thing. I wanna know what's going on.

I believe the test server updater's having some troubles.
Just leave it connecting overnight and it'll get through eventually.

If that's the case then what I'm downloading is probably yet another copy of the "normal game", dammit. I was able to connect to it on like the second try. I'm about to give up here.
