Screenshot the Spot!


How well do you know your City of Heroes/Villains locations?

Hello, hello and welcome to Niviene's Screenshot the Spot forum game where every Wednesday until 4pm Pacific Time (7:00 PM Eastern Time / 12:00 PM GMT / 1:00 Central European Time) you can win your choice of a costume code from past Con seasons and the Forum Title "Screenshot Spotter [date]".

The object of this game is to be the first to 1). Figure out the location in-game depicted in the screenshot and 2). Post a screenshot that is closest to the one I have posted , with your own character in the place of Niviene. Sounds easy right? Well there's a catch. The location isn't going to be as obvious as you might think so make sure you pay close attention to the picture details and hints.

The Pictures will start out masked and more and more of the image will be revealed as time goes on as long as no one has correctly identified the location by posting their own screenshot. If by the end of the day no one has identified the location, the full picture will be revealed and no one will win for that week (BOOOOOOO!).

Rules:

1. Your post must contain a screenshot of the location depicted in the initial contest post, but with your character in the place of Niviene

2. Screenshots must remain less than 800px X 500px to qualify.

3. UI needs to be turned off (Menu -> Options -> Keymapping -> scroll to bottom under other "Toggle Screenshot UI")

4. Reply in the official City of Heroes® forum (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/) thread created for each weekly “Screenshot The Spot” Contest with your screenshot submission.

5. Your reply must contain a single screenshot. Entries with more than 1 screenshot will be disqualified.

6. Your submission must also contain the following statement. Please note that your submission will be disqualified if this statement is not present in your post:
7. To enter the contest weekly, as of January 13, 2010, you must be 13 years of age or older. If a winner is under 18 or a minor in his or her state/province/country of residence, his or her parent or guardian must also sign any applicable releases and documentation.

8. Please note, only 1 (one) entry per forum account will be accepted. If you post a second time, you'll get disqualified, so make your one entry count!

9. Entries must conform to the Official City of Heroes Message Forum Rules and Guidelines.

10. If you win the City of Heroes® Screenshot The Spot Contest one week, you are not eligible to do so again for the next 8 weeks. This is to allow other people the opportunity to win. Please be courteous to others and refrain from participating during the weeks you are not eligible to win.

Well done! The original screen shot :

It's in the southwest corner of Cap Au Diable (2975, -24, 2926)

Here's how I figured it out...

• It's got a very blue background. First thought: War walls.
• Not Kings Row or Dark Astoria, the colors are wrong. Possibly Atlas, Galaxy, Talos or PI.
• Load in, hit Galaxy. Hmm, problem: the war walls all have a large brown/gray base to them and the foreground is too short.
• Flip to Talos. No buildings in the exposed area, so it has to be a pretty exposed skyline with possibly a statue.
• Hunt around for a moment and then realize there is a gap of sky on that right hand leg of the cross.
• Can't be one of the regular trees because to be close enough for the tree to intersect the top of the screen, the leaf part would be huge.
• Try to think of any statues in the game that have some sort of wire coil holding up something. (think a swirling rocket or something in an orbit). Can't come up with any off the top of my head.
• Lean back and stare at the war walls.
• THE WAR WALLS HAVE PILLARS! Doh!
• Can't be in CoH, but be in CoV and must be -very- close to the zone walls or the color would be drab and grim.
• Load into Port Oakes. During load, think about what could possibly be that orange speck. Car part? Piece of trash? Dead Hellion pant leg?
• Hit refresh to see if anyone else has figured it out. New image!
• Not a statue. A statue would be wider in the middle...must be a tree, but a tall skinny tree. Must be a palm!
• Open screenshot folder of neat places, flip, flip, flip. Ah HA!
• Load into Cap, race to corner. Try to be patient for daytime in the Etoile Islands. Give up. Take shot anyway.

Actually, I haven't posted my list yet...call me OCD, but a comprehensive list requires screenshots and longitude/latitude markers. That thread is a good starting point however. As soon as I finish it, I'll let everyone know where it's located. Soon™.
