Looking For A Little Brutal Critique
No idea about either set but just as a general comment I'd take boxing over kick any time. You will hardly ever use it but it still better than nothing when your recharge has been debuffed to nothing and you stare at a tray of little dots
Oh and I'd be curious if you could give me some pointers around cash? If this is your 'broke' build then I must be doing something seriously wrong.
First off, your build looks pretty good. I assume you've had experience blueside, but if you're completely broke redside you're going to find that your build is really going to be difficult for you to put together right off the bat.
If you are planning to use regular IOs for a bit and piece it together over time then it is certainly accomplishable.
To note, the HOs that you have in active defense and tough are going to cost you in the neighbor hood of 50 to 100 million each, depending on your server. You'll also find the supply desperately low on redside. Not to mention that enzyme exposures are particullary in demand with the popularity of anything/shield.
If you are looking for a quick way to boost your defense debuff resistance, I would recommend dropping one of your travel powers, redordering your power choices, and picking up grant cover. A lot of people don't realize that grant cover actually adds almost 14% to defense debuff resistnace unslotted and 24% fully slotted for defense (Assuming mids is correct). Not to menton that it also adds a static 30% recharge debuff resistance no matter how your slotted (which is significant, especially if you like to make sure your shield charge's recharge rate isn't being debuffed). It also adds this 30% recharge debuff resistance to your teammate within a 15 ft radius and grants them over 8% defense unslotted and almost 14% fully slotted for defense. Those are significant bonuses that aid the survival of any team. It is really a power most people shouldn't be skipping.
If you can, I'd try to free up a slotted and place another in True Grit and max out the amount of hit points you gain from that power. The extra hitpoint from True Grit are invaluable to any brute. I'd wager to say even more than the resists (If you can manage to be able to get along without the end bonus from impervium armor you could just drop one of those and go with a regular resist IO and a regular healing IO for budgeting)
Other than that everything else looks well enough. I've always found this combo to be pretty endurance heavy, unfortunately.
((As an after thought, it is good to note that grant cover is great for using if you can handle the extra end drain or using it situationally when you know you're going to need that extra defense buff resistance or recharge resistance.))

Unbelievable. You, [subject name here], must be the pride of [subject hometown here]!
Your build does look good but it will be expensive. Red side certain things are more expensive...its just the way it is. But this will take a long way to get to...
I made some changes but tried to keep two things in mind...
Softcap and DDR are paramount....but I tried to keep the integrity of your build intact
Went over the soft cap so you could tweak and pull things back later....
1. Removed those Hami O Enzymes in Battle Agility. Dont need em
2. Thunderstrike is designed for 5 Sciroccos and the Force Feedback proc. Sciroccos are great because you get the big defense bonus from that set at 5.
3. Added Miracle Heal to health for the 2 set bonus. Recovery is never bad
4. Left Taunt but Id consider taking it at 50. Brutes arent tanks....red side we take aggro by punching things in the face. You have enough aoe to get everythings attention.
5. Took Grant Cover at 28. Slotted with Gift of the Ancients because you already had 5 Lotg sets. You could put the run from Gift in Phalanx Fighting and two slot Grant Cover with LotG. Your call
6. Added a Blessing of the Zephyr to CJ. Its expensive, Id put a Defense IO in it as I level and forget about that slot until i had lots of inf.
7. Changed both Lightning ROd and Shield Charge to Oblits. Again...expensive. Slot two sets of Multistrike (which are cheap and avaialable at all levels) until you can afford it.
8. Changed Electrifying Fences to Trap of the Hunter because you were over on Melee Defense. Consider changing the Power out for Gloom and 6 slotting Thunderstrike.
9 Ball Lightning. Just frankenslot it and be done with it. Posi doesnt really do you any good at this point....
Thats just what I got...your call on changes

Hmmm some great feed back. Thanks guys. I am going to do some side-by-side comparisons with mids and work out some changes. I didn't realize Red and Blue side didn't share the same market so my assumptions on price were from a Blue side perspective.
I guess I am going to need to get my marketeer on and earn some cash.
I might post a thread seeking to explore the differences between red and blue side cash generating methods. For now I have been selling my drops on the BM, did some level 50+ SO purchasing and sold them at the stores to get some initial cash on hand, did some bronze ticket rolls and crafted/sold the good ones, do some farming along the way and will do some flipping off the BM.
What are the good farms here Red side for a Elec/Shield?

You could also do repeatable rikti missions in RWZ set to +0/8 or up to +2/8 without difficulty. I've gotten plenty of great drops doing that, including a few purples.
You might be able to manage the snake farm, though I can't recall where you get that from.
Those are the only ones I can remember at the moment.
Popping in for a couple quick comments.
Gospel: It's Operative Grillo for Snake Temple
Dunkelzahn_NA: Head to the Market Forum. You'll find some decent advice throughout the forum on making inf. Also, there are ways to build an elec/sd without breaking the bank. Take a look at sets like multistrike, which offers both melee AND AoE Defense. The recharge is just awful, but for a build on a budget, it's a great option.
DarkInvado:
Just about everything redside is expensive right now. This is because the market has been in short supply, so things are scarce.
The short answer is take out the hamis. They cost 125-200 mil easy.
Since you're already happy overslotting your toggles, look at red fortune. It's a cheap set and not as good as LOTG, but it offers 5% rech and 2.5% rng def, and is cheap. A good option for someone who doesn't have the inf to buy 7.5's right at the moment.
The detonation in ball lightning isn't doing much for ya. Either grab a generic rech, or an acc/rech or an end/rech of some type.
3 Titanium or 3 Aegis in Tough will give ya HP or *some* AoE def.
I'm sure there are other things I can spot and I might edit this later and add more. I'm heading out to do an ITF.
--LOTG 7.5's are 150-200 mil right now.
Hey Brutes,
My first brute is leveling her way towards 50 and I am busy starting earning/saving up cash for a basic IO Set build.
As I am new to the Red Side and never made a brute I am looking for some tips and advice - even some criticism on my build.
As I am as broke here on Red Side as I am in RL the build is not a massively expensive one. I would like to be able to farm decently enough (although I can't say I farm much) along with SFs and teaming. I don't suppose this build could solo AVs could it?
Also I am interested in the use of the Enzyme Exposures in the Battle Agility to gain some Def Debuff resistance. Is that a useful or effective use of two slots? Would they be better used somewhere else in the build?
