TA/Archery

Would TA/Archery be a good build to farm if i'm only farming like +1 or +2 enemies with no bosses?
I'm thinking Oil slick, ignite it, Rain of Arrows, Explosive Arrow and then back to ignite oil slick.

Thanks, Zoner

Yes, it works but as far as farming goes it isn't going to be fast. I've done a bit of farming the wall in Cim while witing for an ITF and even with a nice chunk of global recharge I only get Oil Slick up every three spawns or so, and even if you did a perma-hasten build I think you'd probably only get it every other spawn.

The other problem for farming is that outside of EMP Arrow TA's damage mitigation against the alpha strike isn't that great and it lacks tools for healing between fights (an important part of farming speed).

So yes, you can probably farm with a TA/A but it's not going to be particuarly high on the list of good farming builds.

It's possible to farm with a TA/A (I do), but you're going to need a lot of set bonuses. Either defense, recharge, or some combination of the two will be best.

Trick Arrows and Archery are built for AoE, and Archery is pretty good in that respect, but while Trick Arrows has fairly large AoEs, they're on lengthy recharges and the set is short on defensive debuffs (not defense debuffs, but debuffs that reduce incoming damage, such as -ToHit, -Damage, and -Recharge).

My build has lots of recharge and good recovery, so I alternate between spawns with either of these chains:

Oil Slick Arrow + Disruption Arrow + Aim + Rain of Arrows

PBU + EMP Arrow + Disruption Arrow + Aim + Rain of Arrows

And then Acid Arrow and Ice Arrow get mixed in there usually, and sometimes I don't use PBU because it's not back up yet, but those are basically how I go. When EMP Arrow isn't up, I use Flash Arrow, Glue Arrow, and Poison Gas Arrow to soften the alpha.

Here's my build:

I love farming with my TA/Archery Defender. I have 3 attack chains depending on what is currently recharged. Either...

1) Flash, Glue, Poison, Disruption, Acid, Rain of Arrows.
2) Flash, Glue, Oil Slick, Fire, Disruption, Acid, Rain of Arrows.
3) Flash, Glue, EMP, Disruption, Acid, Rain of Arrows.

My build is heavy on recharge, low on defense, but I very rarely die.

Sorry for a little thread jacking here...

How was the TA/Arch to level? I've often wanted to make one but have never read any really good pieces of information on the leveling process.

Cheers,

There is the rub. Leveling a TA/anything can be a painfully slow process unless you have a core of regular experienced players to team with.

Binds annoucing "I dont heal but I do this.." "This arrow doesnt aggro" "This will boost your attacks if they are kept in the field." are essential when teaming with random Pugs.

TA/ has its difficulties not the least of which is that your powers dont put up big green numbers, and other than OSA dont require other players to recognise your contributions. I often liken playing my TA/ Archery def in pick up groups to teaching the elderly how to program their VCRs.

Excellent question - I have used the following strategy from time to time to get a big bump in xp on my archery/ta toon when the door mission grind seemed a bit slow:

1) sidekick to my friend with his level 50 robots/traps MM.
2) enter a '+1, times 8 enemies' mission with him.
3) while he cruises through 16x enemies, I guard the door and watch my xp bubbles fill up.

Wow... what a useful and insightful post.

Personally I didn't have any real trouble leveling my TA/A. Since it is a debuffed focused set it actually solos reasonably well although the lack of alpha mitigation does make it harder to increase spawn sizes safely (not impossible but you have to be a bit careful). I never had any problems with finding groups om Virtue but you might have trouble if you play on Freedom.

I don't play a TA/A. As noted, I play a A/TA Corruptor which is far worse in comparison, since the TA powers are significantly weaker for a Corruptor, and with debuffs the Corruptor doesn't do more damage. With RoA for instance, it appears the damage is at Defender levels, which means actually significantly less damage given buffs and debuffs. It's not that I can't level it; it's just slow going since it is arguably the least powerful power set/class in the game. Disagree? Probably not based on experience, since it appears that no one else actually plays a A/TA Corruptor up to high levels.
