Getting the most out of my video card.
256mb onboard RAM sounds about right for that vintage of video card. Were you expecting it to have more dedicated RAM than that?

*Sigh* I don't understand, then. My computer's specs are pretty decent, but I still get lag... You said "vintage". Were you trying to subtly tell me that my video card is out of date?
You must be running Vista or Win 7. Dx10 had features added that, in a Dx10 aware game, would use system memory like a swap file for game textures automagically as oppose to the game developers needing to write their own.
The thing is, your video card only has 256MB of actual memory. That's all CoH or any Dx9 games will see.
With "Can You Run It", all it will verify is that your system meets minimum requirements. Don't forget that your 7900GS is in the same class of performance as a 9500GT or a GT220.

According to this page, the 7900GS did indeed have 256 MB of dedicated video RAM.
As far as having to turn your graphics settings down, keep in mind that it is at least 3 generations old now.

Trust the computer. The computer knows all.

Keep being awesome!
Please post the results of these two programs to help us help you tweak your computer for better performance (i.e., less lag):
- CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
- HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.

Hmm. i'd figure a 7900 GS to be pretty decent for CoH still, the misses used to have one, it fried a little bit ago, but I swore it ran better than her 8600GT replacement.

Friends... meet the enemy.
Put briefly: am I, a plebeian who knows nothing of computers, wrong to guess that more of the memory should be Dedicated Video Memory? If it genuinely should be more, how do I go about adjusting that?
Kind of sick of having "Can You Run It?" tell me that I'm well above even the Recommended settings... and then having to turn down all the settings just to play.
Thanks!
