bs/sd/fire farmer

i'm thinking of rolling this to run either battle maiden or council farm with bosses.

my thoughts:

parry + shields = survivability

shield charge, spinny sword aoe thingy, and fireball for minions and LTs then some hack, disembowel and headsplitter to deal with bosses.

your thoughts?

My thoughts: soft capped Fire/SD(/Blaze) or Elec/SD(/Blaze). If you wanted to make a farmer BS really isn't a top choice.

I love my sword and board scrapper, and he was a ton of fun to level up. Farming, sure I do it, and he's probably one of my better farmers, but like DSorrow stated you'll get alot more AOE goodness out of fire or some of the other sets. I think what you lack in AOE though (slice is good and whirling sword is not bad, shield charge is pure win though) you more than make up for with top single target damage. I open up on a group with build-up, shield charge, whirling sword and energy torrent (from the body mastery pool, I needed more endurance help) then mop up the bosses with hack, disembowel and headspliter. Nothing is standing after that. Let the sissy AoE farmers cruise on with their +4/X8 slider with no bosses, you can do the same but with bosses and AV's.

Early game broadsword benefits from parry in getting towards that defensive softcap, but later in your build you'll definitely want to respec out of parry in favor of other choices (like those in the epic pools).

I know elec/shield and fire/shield might be more obvious choices but with the build I have in mind (haven't actually planned it out yet) I could focus on regen, recov and recharge with my IOs rather than defense because that lacking defense would be made up for by parry. I can't imagine much in the way of minions and lts being standing after SC, WS, and FB aoes... am I wrong? or in soft capping a fire/shield, could I also get comperable recharge and recovery?

As the owner of a Fire/SD/Blaze (and having played a BS/SD to 44), what makes it such an engine of destruction is the /SD/Blaze, not so much the Fire/. Shield Charge and Fireball are your best attacks, and together boosted by Build Up they kill even-con Lts. The AoE strength of Fiery Melee, at least for Scrappers, is very overstated. FSC does a lot of damage, but it only hits 10 targets, has a very small radius and is very endurance-heavy.

So BS/SD sounds perfectly viable as a farming build. The only thing I'd be worried about is the redraw.

My Fire/SD/Blaze has zero problems with bosses. They just melt away. I farm at +3 (sometimes +2)/x8/bosses yes and since I'm frequently helping a bunch of people level (getting from 34 to 35 for instance), I will regularly face mobs with 4-6 bosses in it.

Yea, my statement was quite a stretch, I've got a fire melee scrapper too and I've never had issues with bosses and AV's. Just trying to help the guy out, us concept guys who are stuck on BS/SD need to feel like we're the big dogs in something.

You can have your cake and eat it too. You'll want to be defensive soft-capped and you can still manage regen/recovery and recharge.

this toon is now 50 and have dropped a boatload of influ into the build and man is it fun. not as fast as a fire/kin or elec/shield for farming but noticably safer. i'm loving it.

Holy crap, how much do you play? 0 - 50 in less than two weeks with a boatload of inf already invested?

This was by no means my first 50. it is probably closer to my 30th. and when i started this thread she was in her 30s

100% agree, its been known now that Elec/SD farmers are just as fast if not faster then fire/kins with better green in the bar. (With very heavy IO slotting of course)

while i agree with this as well, my bs/shield has been doing just fine for my purposes. I have a fire/kin on the other account but I think the bs/shield is more fun.
