I know this post doesn't belong here, so I apologize in advance. My girlfriend and I were having this debate since we just finished another decade. I had heard a number of the top ten whatever lists for the decade and I really had to think. I have a hard time coming up with great things that came out of the last 10 years.
I mainly think about the entertainment industry and can come up with very little. I mean, movies, TV, music were all pretty lackluster. My girlfriend says it's "just me". So, I'm curious, what would you consider to be the best entertainment to come out of the last decade?
I'll do my best and say for TV it was House (although that really dropped off last year); for movies it was Dark Knight?; for music I really can't come up with anything; and for PC games I have to go with COH/COV.

Maybe Battlestar Galactica or Lost.

Movies, probably Lord of the Rings trilogy.

There's lots of stuff I really dug, but I can't remember.

In no particular order:

Firefly the TV show (under appreciated by critics and network producers)

Avatar in 3D IMAX deserves mention, but it's so new, it's hard to see if it will stand up over time.

Lord Of The Rings.

the Wii

World of Warcraft... even if we're here because we don't like it, it's still the biggest thing in the gamer world.

Guitar Hero

American Idol

The UFC (becoming the biggest draw in the PPV genre)

I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.

I'm gonna second Shred on at least two of those. Most of these changed their field or the world in some way.

World of Warcraft really brought the PC back and MMOs into the mainstream.

UFC, brought attention and credibility to the Martial Arts over all. While its huge for money making and drawing huge crowds for PPV and live, it turned the world onto the martial arts again bringing a few 1 season shows and specials: Human Weapon, Fight Quest, and Fight Science.

Survivor, personally I hate it but it really opened up a new TV style which is likely here to stay. This also spawned shows like American Idol, The Bachlor, etc.

Music, New metal is really the only music that sticks out, most bands nowadays are carbon copies of each other with minor variations. But bands like Linkin Park made a new sound that was all there own.

That's all I got right now, some more stuff may come to mind later as far as best shows/movies/music/etc... to each there own.

50's: Heroes: Ozmeth DB/WP; Black Decker DM/Regen; Shado-Strike DM/SR Scrapper (13 AV soloed); Desert-Shock Claws/Elec Scrapper; Shado-Shriek Dark/Son Def
Villains: Bokken Nin/Nin
Current project(s):

Nothing special comes to mind to me.There just isnt any special causes or anything of that nature to have made the last 10 years anything special.I watch very little TV,i dont bother with the news,or news papers.None of it is anything more then redundant things that can be fixed,if ignorant people wernt involved.

The redundant music and arrival of endless 15 minute famers that sound like the last person turned me off of most music from the last 10 years, and i find it funny when someone mentions a pop singers name, and im like "Who?",but,i guess its because there is money is to be made,so people go with what works for the moment...which happens to be exactly like the 100 that came before them.

The lack of care, morality, individuality, and whats acceptional, are very obvious to some, but most go back to point #1...they dont care.People complain, and yet do nothing,or complain about a product,or something unfair in there lives that either steps on there rights,or many other things that would be to numerous to list, and go on using it,or allowing unfair treatment.

The rate for divorces climb, and we teach our children close to nothing, other then money is all that matters, and transfer no good moral boundries for them, which could be a very good reason why everyone wants to be a music or movie star, because it provides almost nothing to the population, but makes them a few bucks.Which takes acctual arts that go un-noticed,and under apprechiated by the population.

Men and women cheat in there relationships,Vanity is a focus of many lives,as well as selfishness...not selflessness.

So to say the last 10 years have had anything interesting happen in them...i would have to dissagree...we are whats considered the height of American civilization...which means, absolutly nothing of special interest is going to happen for a while...until our nations decline, when things will all the sudden matter once again, and people will acctually find purpose,to save a falling nation, but, most likly in my life time, and even yours,we will not see that, but what we will see,is people stuggling to survive in a hostile, heavly lawed system,in which we live in already, that peddles entertainment as subtifuge for anything serious that would make us care.....

I dont think i have to write the name of the man who made this following statement.....

"Bad men succeed, when Good men stand by and do nothing."

In our society...we in the last 10 years...perfer to sit back and watch..

So the most predictable story ever is an achievement in the film industry? Yeah, I dont think so.

In Avatar's case the story takes a back seat to the visuals of the movie. A new 3D camera was developed to shoot it, which is part of the reason it took so long to get made.

The story is nothing special, but in terms of movie making it was indeed groundbreaking. A movie can have a great story and be awesomely written, but if the visuals suck, it will be a crappy movie. And besides, what was the last movie that was truly original and didn't recycle the same stuff as 30 other movies from the last 25 years? It's all been done before, nowadays it's just a matter of figuring out how to do the same damn thing a little bit different.

James Cameron's last blockbuster was nothing more than Romeo and Juliet on a boat. That didn't stop it from being huge.

Avatar is heralded as a great movie because of the visual aspect of it, not because of the story. The story is basic and doesn't intrude too much on the awesomeness of what's going on on the screen, which was kind of the point.

I expect it to win several Oscars, especially in the technical categories. I don't think it deserves Best Picture, but it will probably get it if nothing else comes along that generates as much interest.

Can't agree with this. Good special effects does not equal a good movie. I enjoyed Avatar. It's a good movie, but I don't consider it award worthy, we'll see what happens come Oscar time. Compared to other James Cameron films, Avatar wasn't that ground breaking. Abyss, T2, and Titanic were all more impressive; oh and they were better stories too.

Cameron makes better use of 3D vs the gimmick aspect most 3D films go for, but that's the mark of a good director. To make matters worst, Hollywood is tripping over self to make every movie 3D now. 2010 will be filled with 3D movies trying to ride the bandwagon. I think all this 'innovation' will be forgotten before the summer is over. I've spoken to many who watched the movie without 3D and their overall reaction didn't differ from those who did watch it in 3D.

EVERY decade, people in their 30's and 40's say that music isn't good anymore. That's only true if you listen to what's popular, in my opinion. Popular music usually sucks. I'd probably agree that it's even worse today than it used to be, but still.

I'd have to think hard to come up with a list of what I consider the best music of the last decade... but just as an example, I listen to a lot of folk metal, viking metal, and goth metal, and there was very little of that in existence before 2000 so at the very least it's not just a rehash of what's gone before. I also listen to a lot of folk and world music fusions, and a lot of that kind of thing produces music unlike what's come before.

I'm a big fan of anime and manga and there was a huge explosion in popularity for that stuff in the last decade. There's a lot of things I like in those categories that came out since 2000.

Heck, World of Warcraft may have changed the field of MMOs, but let's not forget that EQ itself only came out in the Spring of 1999. It wasn't quite the first MMO but it changed MMOs quite a bit. I'm not sure we would have gotten to WoW if not for EQ.

The Lord of the Rings makes my list, that's a no-brainer. Probably should mention Pixar too, most of what they've done has been this decade hasn't it?
