Indeed. There are two things that really determine how long someone can "tank" Hamidon - how many HP they have, and how fast they can regen those HP. +Regen is one of the main reasons there's a call for casting AB through Hamidon. Hami makes his target progressively less healable, but does nothing significant to their Regen.

In early days, a Stone/ Tanker running Earth's Embrace and Rooted was king of this pack, since no other Tanker primary offered both +HP and +Regen. Nowadays we have WP as well.

One thing that probably doesn't make sense is for a Stone tanker to run the raid in Granite. The only useful advantage it provides in a raid is stun protection. But other Tankers run without the benefit of their Tier 9's stacked stun protections, so except in unusual emergencies involving soaking Mito fire as well as Hami aggro, a Hami aggro tanker shouldn't need to run Granite for that reason. Everything else the power does Hami's attacks basically ignore. That means a Stone tanker doesn't need to suffer the -recharge or -damage effects of Granite, both of which affect their ability to hold aggro.

Hami spawned *really* quick last time. I looked at the clock when he spawned and noticed we only got +/-5 minutes of monster hunting in before he spawned. Less time means less GMs downed, less GMs downed means less opportunities for EoEs.

I'm also 100% in favor of the no-retreat raid, which we should just call the Justice Raid... or name it after whoever invented the strat. (Wasn't it Quat?... The Quat Raid?... I like that.) These raids tend to implode more often, which makes them more fun in my opinion. They are also more dependent on good tanking. All seven tanks need to have a certain level of experience for it to go smoothly. It will still work with newbie tanks, but it has a greater chance of going bad.

I think tanks should only be punching the hamibag after the last spawn. In a Justice Raid, even when it goes perfectly smooth, the buffs are spotty after the initial dive. Sometimes we just can't be bunched up close enough to get all the loving. As a tank, I'm always counting on EoEs, and any buffs I get are bonus. I agree with what Flea posted. Tanks should be concerned with yellows and EoE distribution. The only caveat is if yellow or green damage really sucks, the tanks may be needed there.

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Actually, I believe someone from the Angry Angels SG on Virtue came up with the no retreat raid.

Also, Puce reminded me of one good reason to have the tanks with the rest of the raiders, a rebuff moment by Hammy just before respawn.

I'm not sure what is more important -- the buffs or quick draw taunting. Opinions?

Yes, thank you for pointing that out. I was getting more of the visual of the Tanks involved rather than stating the Power Set, Powers, or more appropriately the game mechanics involved (I shouldn't post first thing in the morning...). My bad. Let me restate my original sentence. "Tanks with lower regeneration/heal times will need more EoE's depending their position and the amount of time they have to soak fire."

I like the suggestion about the earlier call for Tanks to return to their positions. As well as taking time after the mito waves are down to collect EoEs (as needed). Bionic_Flea makes a great point about staying in position, but I like to assist with the mito removal and standing around can get boring. So, I'd like to continue to be mobile. I vote for earlier call to mitos for the Tanks.

Anyways, I did enjoy the raid and look forward to the next one!

I think quick-draw taunting is vastly more important, especially because EoEs do the job of buffs anyway. And the buffs are always iffy anyway. If you ignore the buffs, that's basically an extra 18 EoEs raid-wide, not a big number.

I'm all in favor for Yellow tanks exiting after the blues and greens are downed to give them a chance to redistribute EoEs and prep for establishing aggro when the mitos respawn. I also think it'd be a good idea for the buffers on Yellow aggro team to exit along with their tanks so they can get their buffs in and be primed for any healing or rezzes that may be necessary. It only takes being a split second too late with your EoE to end up with a loose yellow (our tanks are beyond awesome with their skills, but you can never be too safe ).

Again, great feedback guys!

Thanks for the info on Granite. It has always felt unnecessary to me, and even detrimental, as I imagine the -recharge would keep you from being as effective a taunter as you could be. Rooted seems more than adequate by itself. After all, I only run Unyielding and don't get mezzed.

I, too, am perfectly ok with the Tanks going back after the greens and blues are down. If the Yellow Aggro team can be built to have their own buffers/healers (I like one Emp and one Kin, personally), then they could do their own thing and get ready for the spawns. It also helps to have your support members hang on to EoE (though they should use them as well during the initial bloom until aggro is established).

Do we want to try this tactic next Monday?

I think they should get there assigned mito, run in at the appointed 20 second threshold, taunt, mark their spot on the map, help with greens and blues, and then go back to their marked spot. The mitos get a little moved about on respawns, but that should put them fairly close.

If they ignored Hammy until the last mito wave was gone, they would have plenty of time to redistibute EOE or pick some up from another raider. More importantly, they would be in excellent position to taunt immediately upon respawn and thereby keep deaths to a minimum if not outright eliminate them.

Clarification on the Virtue "evac-free" strat can be found on the last page of this thread posted by Sandolphan :

You're right about the thumbtacks for yellow mito positions,Flea.

Here is a link to another REALLY fun strategy but this type takes some(actually alot of) preparation:

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...highlight=hami

There is a link to a video of a 9 minute raid about midway through the page. That's me in the Captain Americ suit with a Cowgirl hat on!!!!

Another thing to consider for evac free raids is having a couple of people bring bio nukes to drop on the main raiding party prior to entering goo on first wave(sort of like a villian raid) or to have the nukes dropped in the goo when hami is at 50%. The nukes can also be used to cover lack of eoe in the event of a shortage.

Thanks Arwynn and Enri for getting an active schedule going again and thanks to all the team leads and participants for rocking the Jello like an apple martini!! Justice is the best!

So, I mentioned this prior to Wednesday night's hami raid, but not many people were around at the time...

Anybody think we may see a new raid come with GR? I mean, they claimed that the praetorian DE became far more powerful due to the use of nukes... perhaps a more powerful Hami in a zone that accommodates larger raids?

No, I really doubt it. Frankly, the most compelling reason for the raid at its current size is that the servers can handle it fairly reasonably. The game simply cannot handle large numbers of entities using large numbers of (or extremely frequent) power activations. Unless GR is coming with major hardware upgrades or some sort of massive retooling of the core game engine (and that latter seems incredibly unlikely), I don't expect a bigger raid out of it.

It's conceivable they might modify the raid, though I'd be rather surprised given how much stuff GR seems to entail already. But even if it were changed, I really don't expect it to be larger.

Just a reminder that we have a hero side Hami Raid tonight at 9pm eastern. Please show up early, and bring EoE if you have it. Since Hami spawns at random, there's no guarantee that we'll have enough EoE drop during monster clearing.

If you're interested in a leadership position, please contact me in game.

Thanks!

I can't speak for Arwen, but I would think that if an event is being posted in the JFA2010 MotD, then it's probably a safe bet that it can be included in the JU MotD as well.

If an event isn't in any general event channel MotD at all, then probably best to double check with the event organizer before including it in a MotD for such a channel.

Just a reminder of tonight's raid. As always:

Please bring EoE if you have it. There's no telling if the monster phase will be long enough to get a sufficient amount.

Be prepared for the Hive to lock out at 8:30. This has been happening a lot.

If you are interested in a leadership position, please let me know.

Hey guys, just a quick FYI. I'm going to have to cancel tonight's raid because I have an incapacitating migraine. I need to take my medicine and lay down, and I have no guarantee that I'll feel well enough to lead a raid by the time it's supposed to start.

If someone could change the MoTDs in JFA and JU I would appreciate it very much.

Again, sorry to do this to you all.

Braxx and Guil have taken care of the MotDs for you Arwen. Don't worry about the raid, there'll always be other Mondays. Just rest and take care of yourself sweetie! I know how horrid migraines can be and hope you're feeling better soon! *hugs*

Update: The JU and JFA folks will be having a impromptu blueside Hami Raid this evening. Same bat-time (9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific), same bat-channel (The Hive)...Philly taking up the mantle.
