I don't even think you have to use the program, as long as you have a steam account to place the order with, which you should be able to do from the website. I hated Steam too until I was forced to use it to play MW2, now I have to like it.

I've been using steam since it came out. My only problem was, years ago, the Friends service was messed up for two years. That's about it, have had no other problems with it. To the point of considering giving up physical sales of games.

Talk about deja vu all over again. It would let me sign into the support section, but would not accept the EXACT SAME INFORMATION for the store section. Had to download the virus software, redo login information 5 times before it "stuck", and then had to purchase through the virus program because the web site would not let me do it from the cart/store.
Pretty much exactly how I remember things, what is it, 8+ years ago now, when the damn thing went into beta. I think the system remembered me and just wanted to **** with me for old time sake.

Browser issue? I didn't use Steam's browser, I just use Google Chrome. Worked fine for me, nothing Voodoolike about it at all.

I'm enjoying Mirror's Edge... I think I'm close to the end and I agree that it shouldn't have been a full $50 on release. Maybe 30$?
Also, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. just hit a price I couldn't resist... two bucks. 
I'm afraid Steam is going to single-handedly destroy the PC game market.

The two STALKER games are great; I think they're my favorite FPS's of all time. Just love the scenery, story line. It's a sci-fi FPS that doesn't feel like a sci-fi; good real physics, no ray guns, etc.

I think stalker was something I tried a demo of, or maybe a pre-release beta of, where I ran around in very pretty tall grass/flowers/bushes for half an hour without seeing a god damn thing. I wasn't entirely sure what type of game it was. There might have been a tower or some such off in the distance I was running toward, but no idea if it was something to interact with/hide from something with/jump off of to end my suffering/etc.

STALKER's a weird little game. I thought it was a straight up FPS, but it's an RPG with a FPS perspective, a la Fallout 3 or Deus Ex. It has a distinctly Euro-feel do it, and not just because the game is set in Russia.

Silly Mental, everyone knows there are no lush, vast swaths of tall grass plains, trees, animals, the color green, or hope in Russia. You must be mistaken.
Though the isolation I felt in that demo-thing could certainly have been Russian-influenced .....

Finished Mirror's Edge tonight. The ending was a little lackluster but it was a solid title. I don't think it was worth $50 on release, however... maybe $30.

Dammit... I need to stop buying stuff on Steam unless it's on sale. I picked up King's Bounty Gold Edition last week for 40 bucks... and now it's $11.25.

Shamster pointed this out last month, but it was only a 24-hour sale. I've looked around but can't find any ending time to this sale so I'll be using it to buy all the time on my accounts until it ends. Also includes magic or cyborg booster pack, but is still worth the discount even if you have both. Cheers
