Pride of the Pantless?
The only server change that I approve of is Triumph: The all female topless (plus Karl) server.

I enjoyed the experience today of having somebody say in TW how dead the server was while there was a Posi, Numina, Manticore, and Renault all running at the same time, at freaking Noon on mf'n Christmas. I don't find that dead, do you? ;D
|
Also it helps to be drunk and belligerent on at least one Skype call, but that's not entry-level Triumph socialization. That's post-graduate work.
I see all types of things forming in TW each week, but it's typically the same folks forming. Now if I don't like the selection I could start whatever I wanted and feel fairly certain I'd get a full team. I just gignore people that complain no one will form the Tf they want to do.

Dropping our awesome Pantless monikor is the last straw! They may take our lives, but they'll never take our semi nudityyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
Don't I know you???
I'm of the kind that Triumph has a definite quality over quantity aspect going for it.
We do get great teams rolling, and I'm far less reticent about filling out a TF from TW 2.0 than I am on other servers when I roam there. If someone is unhappy with the server, I'd strongly suggest they move to one that is more to their liking, rather than trying to change us. |
Don't I know you???
I don't even know what pants look like. How do they work? Can you eat them? Do they have emergency exits?
"Passengers seated in exit rows may be called upon to assist and open exits in the event of an emergency."
I've been reading up on these "pants" things...very interesting!
Did you know that, "Males customarily wear trousers and not skirts or dresses"?
Also, the Bible says that women can't wear pants! I imagine there are compatibility issues or something?
I am one of the people that would like to change the name of the server. First hear me out before you chase me down with torches and pitch forks. I am a 60 month vet and 90% of my characters are located on this server and I have noticed the decrease in players on this server. I am not against going pantless on this server. It does show a sense of humor and how comfortable we are with each other on this server. My thing is that people know what they like to do in game and to some going pantless isnt it. Listed below is what I found on City of Heroes Wiki:
East Coast Servers
The six east coast servers are physically located in Virginia.
Freedom
Freedom is typically the most populated US server. It is known to be a favorite server among French-American and French-Canadian players. Historically, this server was originally named Prime during the beta-test but was renamed upon release. Freedom is considered by many in the community to be the unofficial PvP server, and has very high levels of zone and arena PVP activity.
Infinity
Infinity typically has a moderate level of activity in comparison to the other US servers. Also considered to have the third largest server population and is the "unofficial arena pvp server."
Liberty
Liberty is referred to by many in the community as an "unofficial friendly server", along with Triumph.
Pinnacle
Historically, Pinnacle was often perceived to be the last server to come back up after updates, which lead its players to jokingly refer to it as "the drunk server". However, this no longer seems to be an issue.
Triumph
Like Liberty, Triumph has a reputation in the community as "unofficial friendly server". Triumph is typically one of the least populated US servers.
Victory
Victory has as a reputation in the community as "the unofficial Euro server" and "the unofficial GLBT server" because of perceptions that this server has the largest concentration of these two groups. It is also the server where the original beta-testers of City of Heroes were able to reserve their character names from the beta.
West Coast Servers
The five west coast servers are physically located in California. The training server is located in California as well.
Champion
Referred to by many as the "community server" for its friendly atmosphere and active forums.
Guardian
Historically, Guardian suffered from frequent and allegedly unaddressed downtime that led some in the community to start referring to it as the "red-headed step-child server". However, this no longer seems to be an issue.
Justice
During the beta-testing period, Australians coordinated to make this server the "unofficial Australian / New Zealand server." Consequently, Justice commonly sees more players active through until maintenance, as the timezones for New Zealand (UTC+12) and Australia (UTC+10) mean that the maintenance window happens locally around 11:30pm (Sydney time). As such it attracts Australian players for the last 5 hours of activity (6pm-11pm AEST). Because standard maintenance windows are announced by Admin message and a different message is broadcast for Issue and special event releases, Australian players are often the first to experience them.
Protector
Though teams and supergroups are not difficult to find on Protector, it is believed by some to have a higher population of solo players than most servers, making it a fairly solo-friendly server. In 2005, many Protector players got together and adopted a server mascot, a puma by the name of Cimarron, by donating money (with one member even donating $600) to the Cat Tales Zoological Park in Mead, WA.
Virtue
Virtue has typically been the second most populated US server since the launch of City of Villains. This server has a reputation as the "unofficial role-playing server." As an example of this, some of the players on the Virtue server have set up a wiki to record player-driven continuity to the server, entitled The Unofficial Handbook to the Virtue Universe.
The 2 servers considered The Friendly Servers are the 2 smallest servers in game. We need a new focus on this server. These are some ideas that might appeal to new players:
Triumph-
1. The Pantless PUG Server
2. The Trouser Free Task Force Server
3. The Speedo Strike Force Server
4. The Birthday Suit Battle Server (PvP)
We can still be pantless and have another agenda.
lvl 50 - Elec/WP/Mu Mastery Stalker, lvl 50 - Dark/EA/Soul Mastery Stalker, lvl 50 - EM/Nin/Soul Mastery Stalker
New Toons
lvl 21 - StJ/WP Stalker
And here is what I found on Paragon Wiki:
Triumph Triumph was actually not one of the originally planned "live" servers. According to Jesse "Ghost Falcon" Caceres during the City of Heroes panel at Comic Con 2009, Triumph was originally an internal testing server that was re-purposed during the launch of City of Heroes to combat overpopulation of other servers. Unfortunately, this left the development team without an internal testing server for several months after launch, requiring several patches and Issue 1 to go to Live without proper QA. This also explains why there is one more server on the East Coast than on the West Coast. Like Liberty, Triumph has a reputation in the community as "unofficial friendly server". Because of its history of "Speedo Hami Raids", it has also become known as "the pantsless server." |
If we're trying to bring new players to low population servers, the change needs to be made on the server selection screen itself.
The servers with the highest level of activity are listed at the top of the server list, while the lowest activity servers are listed at the bottom. (After you've already selected a server, the last server you've played on is moved to the top of the list and the rest of the servers are listed below it by traffic volume.)
As a new player, you're probably not going to consult Paragon Wiki to see what sever best suits your playstyle prior to logging in the first time.
More often than not, I'd bet that the first server most players click on is the one at the top of their list - and due to the nature of how the server list is ordered, that's usually going to be Freedom or Virtue.
If we're trying to encourage new players to click on low population servers first, then the order in which the servers are listed needs to be flipped to list servers with lowest traffic volume at the top and highest volume at the bottom.

Edit: nice try on that edit Karl. "Triumph is typically an awesome-population US server." Agreed!
Edit #2: For those still unaware, cityofheroes.wikia.com is NOT the current CoH wiki. Use paragonwiki.com or wiki.cohtitan.com.

So if you choose Virtue or Freedom (knowing that they're going to be pretty high) and then back out to look at the server list, Triumph is usually between the top (just under the server you temp-chose) and about four down (we vary). Most recently, I've only seen it at the top once or twice; I usually see at it two or three.
I have no idea what it'll look like after the transfers are all over, but that's how it's been up until now.
In general, I suspect an awful lot of the server is either hiding or in missions, so people looking for others aren't going to see folks just standing around (thank god). When I *do* want to team outside of my SG, I don't usually have a problem finding someone, and I know the last couple of impromptu MS raids turned out three and a fraction teams.
We're fine. We never have server lockouts on 2XP weekends, we get raids and TFs together without issue, and if people are proactive, teams are readily available.

The thing that attracts new players to our server is the presence of consistant and nice people playing low lvl content on a regular basis.
I'm a relatively new player (10mos) and I DID read those wiki entries. However, after choosing some other random server (I think it was Justice) and wandering around on a lvl1 for a while, I got bored and decided to try other random servers. I think Triumph was like my 3rd or 4th try.
While wandering around Triumph, I found an awesome PUG sewer team in atlas. Then I got to the Hallows and joined a PUG Frostfire with a few solid vets. They were the ones that sealed the deal for me. They were helpful, friendly, and very patient with my ignorance to the game. Most importantly, they stuck around to run mishes with me through Faultline, Croatoa, and even Bricks. And we weren't even globals! We just happened to keep seeing each other on the generic "find team".
I still like to run sewer sweeps and lurk the hallows for that reason.

basically, if you see a miki on Triumph, it's probably cute and it's probably me.
Huge thanks to cuppamanga and all the folks in the mac help forum for prolonging my borrowed time on this game.
This actually got changed sometime last year, so that the lowest load servers are on the TOP, directly under the server you last played.

The Players' Guide to the Cities
I've pretty much fully embraced Triumph these days for my blueside needs. I was originally a Guardianite, but my sg has gradually gone away over the past 5+ years. What can I say, I'm still kicking around. I like the people on Triumph Watch, and it seems quite easy to pick up TF's...even *SHARD* TF's.
Even on Xmas, Xmas Eve, and New Year's, people were ON. How on earth can you complain about that, pantsless or not?
In fact, in general response to this, I vow to personally play pantsless only from this point forward. Pants are highly over-rated, anyway. They bunch and bind, and ride up. Lose'em! ;^)
Anyway, I agree in two things I saw in this thread:
1. Triumph is definitely quality over quantity, which ain't a bad thing.
2. If people don't like our general tomfoolery, then they ain't right for Triumph and can move on down the line.
'Nuff said. :^)
Basically too many 50's to count, but I'm generally a brute/scrapper/tank kind of guy.
I was in one of those 'renaming' arguments - possibly even the one Mylia is talking about (I believe Ichigo was also chiming in on the particular argument that I was...ummm.... arguing?) There seem to be a few vocal people who think that calling ourselves the pantless server is driving away people and isn't drawing them in. But the predominance of folks seemed to 1) appreciate the lighthearted humor in our moniker 2) appreciate the quality over quantity of Triumph and 3) didn't feel a deep need to flood the server with n00bs, even if a few turned out to be decent in the end. And again - a nickname will not be the final determinant of people hopping in or sticking around... we can't affect their choice to try us out but, as miki said, it will be the EXPERIENCES of new people on our server that keeps them.
And being pantless makes us stand out as different from the rest... where is the bad? Well, ok. Sun Splitter lives somewhere in Brooklyn, so that is one location for the bad, but Az2 balances it out (when he isn't flitting all over the world...)
Triumph is as good as any server, you get out what you put in. The people complaining wants specific TF's served to them on a silver platter.
There's quality people here, a pretty astounding amount actually. It's good stuff.
Guess this is appropriate for Triumph http://improveverywhere.com/2010/01/04/no-pants-subway-ride-2010-details-for-new-york/.
Several more videos of the sort on that page from previous years.
Anyways, might as well say hi in this post.
Hi, I'm playing on Triumph since, oh, four months or so. Catch me @swedishchef. I'm usually on blueside (CZM, ZYZ) and occasionally redside (Stuntwaffle).
tl;dr
Good people, good server. You get out what you put in. Also, pants == no.
K Thx Bai
