Archetype /powerset concept

So, few days back came up with this idea for an archetype or scrapper powerset and wannted to present it to you and see what you think. Unlike other topics regarding this matter in this forum section i didnt go and set up the whole powers i see for this before seeing if what i had in mind is doable with the actual or future engine.

Name : speedster/warper/teleporter
Type : ranged mellee.
Yep you read it right. the ideea came after discussing a movie called ''Jumper'' and after talking about a certain sequence in that movie. Basicallyone of the characters attacks another character with a punch but its a sort of propeled punch because instead of running and punching , the guy runs and randomly teleports in a zig zag finishing the move with a surprise punch.
Talking from the perspective of a scrapper, the attack would be initiated in mellee range or a similar/ smaller blaster range. having the movement visually to be a combination between Warshade teleport - ninja run - one of the vets srpints.
It could allow for aoe type of powers, knockdown powers that teleport you on top of your foe, and a sort of weapon kata.
Also i guess it could work as a scrapper set or a new scrapper type archetype with various weapons.
so ... whatyathink ?

come up with 9 powers and details for them and then maybe we can discuss this.

This.

If the idea is worth considering, it's worth fleshing out.
Right now, we have "I saw this one move in a movie and want a whole powerset (or AT depending on how you read the title. ) based on it."

What else do you have? It could be interesting, or it could be nothing.

Edit: Ranged Melee (One "L" ) doesn't have to be for a Melee AT, but rather for a Ranged AT. Think of a Blaster whose damage type is Smashing. Instead of firing a Beanbag Gun or waving a Wand-of-Flying-Hammers, his animation is:
1) He stands some distance from the enemy and starts a punching animation.
2) Copies of him in varius stages of the animation are placed (and removed) one by one in a line from him to the target, while he stands in the original place, covered by a very-short stealth-type hide.
3) Doing the finishing portion of the animation, he appears to be next to the target. (even though he is really not.)
4) The ToHit roll is made, damage is taken (or not).
5) The 2-3 second stealth is dropped and the character reappears back in place, as if he had TP'ed in and out.

In reality, he never moved, but while he was rooted by the attack's animation, it appeared as if he had.
And it probably wouldn't truly be a Stealth, even though I used that term. Unless we start talking about a whole new AT to wrap it around.
Within the framework of an existing AT: For PvP terms, your targeting box would stay put, allowing you to be targetted while firing these powers just the same as someone firing other ranged attacks can be.
For PvE terms, well, your teammates just stop seeing you for a second or two and see the fake you in flashes towards the target.

Ooh! Further animation nightmare detected:
Making the "copies" look like you might be a behind-the-scenes nightmare to get right, unless the "copies" were very vague shapes and hardly detailed at all.

For more info about a "Ranged Melee" powerset, use the search to look up "stretching". You might find something in one of those threads that's applicable to your idea.

I believe there are system limitations regarding entities that copy player characters. I know that sort of thing has been shot down regarding Masterminds with duplicates of themselves as pets, but that's actual NPCs, as opposed to just power effects, so who knows?

The other issue is screen slowdown. The copies would have to be rendered like the actual character, essentially meaning that there's suddenly however-many more characters on screen, all at once, just WHAM! This could lead to issues with weaker GPUs.

I'd like to see some kind of "Portal Melee", which would actually be a ranged set, where the character would generate portals next to him/herself and the target, and then reach through those portals to punch said target. It'd probably have even worse graphical issues than BBQ_Pork's suggestion, and it'd be kind of goofy anyway, but hey, I can dream.

BackAlleyBrawler: I can't facepalm this post hard enough.
ShoNuff: If sophisticated = bro-mantically emo-tastic, then I'm going to keep to my Shonen loving simplicity dammit.

A small black portal opening in midair and a fist comes out to punch someone? Goofy, but awesome.
Just have a slap and a backhand in the first two powers in the set and a Shadow Maul "speedbag" attack too.

At first I saw your post and thought of a powerset that would be mostly about having portals open up underneath a foe and netherworld tentacles rising up to smack a foe around, kind of like a few existing powers ingame.

Sort of like that game that's being released? (The name escapes me, but it's developed in Japan and involves guns and the main character's stilettos)
