"Inexpensive" Perma-Eclipse Build

AlienOne

Posted

I was playing around with a Warshade build and I think I came up with something pretty cool. It's a high-recharge build that focuses on using Nova or Dwarf form (whatever is needed at the time) and perma-Hasten and perma-Eclipse but with only one purple set. Yes, it uses 3 LotG 7.5% recharges, but those are easier to get ahold of then purple sets, and slot way better.

Low-ish damage is sort of a concern, but I figure with double Mire it won't be too bad. Also, this is definitely not intended to be a leveling build, but one to respec into at 50.

How does it look to y'all? I was thinking of taking slots out of the taunt and putting a 4th LotG 7.5% into Vengeance, but I'm not sure where to put the slots instead.

A few things I would definantly change but impressive none the less.

If you PL'd to 50 just to get an "epic" thinking you'd be ber, you're going to be sorely disappointed with the HEATs, because the VEATs were designed so that anyone with one good finger and a braincell can rock the toggles.

What would you change to achieve similar/better results for a similar cost?

Cheapest perma-eclipse build: Warshade + 7 kins.

All kidding aside, I like it. I can see you spend most of your time in one form or another and only drop for eclipse and maybe to gravity well/unchain essence. It's not really anything like mine because I use a bit more of the human powers. Sunless mire, for one, is perma for me if I drop out of forms every 30 seconds. I have Absolute Amazement slotted in gravatic emanation and unchain essence slotted for damage. There's some other stuff, but I'm not going to get into any of that.

What I would change? It could be a lot cheaper if you add one more slot to eclipse and use a common recharge IO. You'd need a lot less global recharge for sure.

Also, if you can spare a few slots, dark extraction can really shine if you put some more into it.

I'll try to break it down quickly.

And keep in mind these are only my opinions.

Shadow bolt, gravimetric snare, gravity shield all look good.

I would slot a KB ressist into absorbtion

Dark Nova i believe is over slotted and of an enhancer type not all that benificial. I like using the gaussience chance for build up to suppliment the chance for build up in decimation.

Black dwarf I would frankenslot with end/ressist and ressists and swap the end mod for a performance shifter chance for endurance.

Unchain Essence works but I prefer it as a damage attack since the duration on the stun is so short.

Sunless Mire is almost useless with the current slotting I would dedicate at least 3 slots to it and go Obliteration, focusing on the acc and recharge.

Dark extraction is alright but I would give it more slots and use the higher level set expedient reinforcement.

Eclipse looks good except i would give it more accuracy and franken slot more ressist/recharge enhancers.

Nova attacks i would take a slot from each of the single target attacks to give the AOE attacks a chance for energy damage each.

Black dwarf smite and strike could lose a slot each to up the slots on sunless mire and dark extraction.

Black dwarf drain could use drop a crushing impact to gain more healing for better ability to tank.

Black dwarf antagonize seem heavily over slotted but I see why. I would drop it to 2 slots and swap out tactics or vengence for another concealment power to make up the 7.5% recharge, and add the remaining 3 slots to bolster sunless mire and dark extraction.

If you PL'd to 50 just to get an "epic" thinking you'd be ber, you're going to be sorely disappointed with the HEATs, because the VEATs were designed so that anyone with one good finger and a braincell can rock the toggles.

Agree with OF2 for the most part.

6th crushing impact in the dwarf powers is useless, and the change in enhancement values for dropping one is very small.

6 slot extracted essence...please.

Get rid of both tactics and vengeance, replace one with a concealment power for the LotG, the other with Gravitic Emanation, and migrate those Amazements over to it.

Dark Nova Detonation: Replace the posi dam/range with the posi proc

Dark Nova Emanation: Replace the posi acc/dam with the posi proc, also adding a slot for the +rech proc is nice.

What OF said on Black Dwarf and dark nova

I say put an aegis unique in Absorption, and just use the Zephyr in your SS

I actually think with the global acc bonuses you have you don't need acc in the power, I would just frankenslot it with rech/resist ios.

You can go with a single slot in Sunless Mire, but it should be recharge.

My character is set up exactly as you see here. This was my "inexpensive" build. Hasten is 8 seconds from perma, but Eclipse overlaps by 7 seconds. There's some funny math to figure out the exact time Eclipse recharges in, but suffice to say it's perma.

I'm going to get into some strategy advice, so be forewarned that this is all in my opinion and completely subjective. None of what I'm about to say is solid or proven, it's just how I like to play. I can't say it's the best. I won't even say it's good. I will say it's what I use, and that it's gotten me this far.

Sunless mire isn't used for the damage it does so it just needed recharge and a hint of accuracy. Again, even this is almost perma. I don't drop out of forms every thirty seconds though, so I'm not sure if it would make a difference to be perma.

I would like to echo that Gravatic Emanation is incredible. In fact, it is Absolutely Amazing. *hint hint* Open the fight with that power. Now everything is bunched in the corner for an Eclipse or Mire and only the bosses aren't stunned.

I spared some room for Gravity Well to do damage as well as get that amazing Basilisk's Gaze recharge bonus. Second only to Quasar in damage, Gravity Well allows you one shot most minions and then Unchain Essence (another good power for damage) the little bugger. Doing this right after my last paragraph puts the spawn on it's last leg. If anything's left, two shot them in Nova.

Now you've got some fluffies following you around, which can easily double your damage if they're slotted well. The Soulbound Allegiance set isn't that expensive, and I highly recommend the proc.

Back to the build: I have five level 25 LotGs, but aside from the salvage, I didn't spend a dime on them. 1000 merits was easy to come by, just time consuming. During Halloween I did a lot of GM hunting.

If you look closely, you'll notice a lot of the powers have "alternate slotting." The alternate slotting is pretty much the purple sets I plan to have. They don't make that much of a difference, because let's face it, perma is perma, but the important thing is how much they help with exemplaring. The Positron's blast from Nova Emanation ends up in Unchain Essence.

I took a few of the suggestions and altered my build. It turns out, though, that Mid's allowed six 7.5% recharge bonuses in the first build, so this modified one no longer has perma-Hasten. However, it's only off by 2 seconds so I'm not really worried about it, especially when the Unchain Essence slotting more than allows for Ragnarok when I can afford it.

I'm not seeing the first build has more 7.5 +Recharges than allowed, unless you're counting the LotG's with the ones from the Basilisk and Mocking Beratement bonuses. If that's the case, then you should know the game does not count those as the same bonus, so you can have 5 of the LotG +Recharges and another 5 7.5 recharges from set bonuses before you go over the limit.

kybarsfang - do you use Black Dwarf Drain as an attack? Or just when you need healing?

I have made a slight change to your build, which didn't really improve it, but did get rid of some duplicate bonus' by frankenslotting a few powers:

Other things I would do with your build include:

Dropping Inky Aspect, Nebulous Form (Moving the IO to Black Dwarf Step) and Starless Step - and swapping them for the Medicine Pool (Stimulant, Aid Other, Resuscitate) to give you more utility without using more slots (Aid Other would never be used, but Stimulant comes in handy for Mo runs, and Resuscitate is a very useful power!)

I'll join in on the fun and post my build as well. Pretty similar to yours kybarsfang. My goal was to have perma-hasten and perma-eclipse without purples. I do now have two of the soulbound allegiance in fluffy, but only because my main happened to have them drop recently. I do use 5 LotG +7.5%'s, but those will slowly make their way in to build as I can afford them. In practice, this toon is all about mauling TF's. Most of my combat time is spent in Nova but I can tank in Dwarf if our tank dies, DC's, ragequits, etc. Human form is for out-of-combat utility. I will second a couple of other people's suggestions that 6 slotted positron's is a waste. Personally I drop the dam/range for a second proc. 6-slotted crushing impact is also overkill, again, I drop something for a proc. I don't like the gaussian's proc in nova, so I went with perf +end. Feel free to comment/critique as you see fit.

I am quite bored at work so thought I might as well!

Dark Nova - I don't think a tiny bit of recovery (By reducing the endurance cost of the toggle by .11 eps) and 5% tohit is really worth 5 slots. I know you did it for the +recharge, but you can get that recharge elsewhere I feel.

Winters Gift: Slow Resistance - You may as well get that slotted somewhere, maybe Black Dwarf Step

Ranged Defence - I don't think it is really worth slotting for it unless you are going to make a good go of it, anything less than 25% I wouldn't think is that much use, so I would save the slots from Shadow Step and Shadow Recall

Gravatic Emination - I guess it is a playstyle choice not taking it, but I really couldn't live with not having it, no matter how little I use it.

Quasar - I would 5 slot this with Obliterations saved from Dark Nova, and obviously take earlier so you can fit the slots in.

Black Dwarf Mire - I would swap one of the Obliterations with either a pure EndRdx IO (13.2 end every 5 seconds will drain you blue bar fast), or go for the purple proc (Which is amazing if you have the budget). The melee defence from the 6th slot is wasted imho.

Black Dwarf Drain - With your level of recharge I wouldn't think this power was used in your normal attack chain, so would be best used for pure healing, and therefore I would slot it with 5 Doctored Wounds, and maybe some accuracy.

Aid Self - Do you use this power? I would swap it for Stimulant, which may at least get used once! Failing that I would slot it for heal, since you aren't likely to need to spam it in any situation where it isn't going to get interrupted.

Stygian Circle - If you have any spare slots after the above I would get some recharge into this power.

Resiscitate - I would swap a few power picks around so you pick this before you start on the Concealment pool, unless you are picking low level LoTG's for exemping? I like having this power available as soon as possible (IE: Lvl 24).

Edit: These are pretty much all nitpicks aside from Nova/Quasar, the build is actually quite nice for a Nova/Dwarf heavy build.

Darkstar, thanks for the good ideas. I implemented most of them in my new build. A couple of quick comments:

1) I actually did have the end mod IO instead of the oblit proc in dwarf mire, but I have two copies of my build, one at work and one at home and I hadn't updated the work one to reflect that.

2) I actually use Aid Self semi-frequently. Most of the time it's to just top off my health because I forgot to hit stygian when I should have, or when I'm soloing and there aren't enough bodies on the ground to fully fuel the stygian circle. I will re-slot for heal though.

3) I had never given Quasar much thought because I've been underwhelmed by the 'Nova' type powers. But I always forget that the WS crash is much easier than the Blaster version, and the WS has more tools to deal with it. Now that it's slotted I just might have to start using the Eclipse->Human Mire->Dwarf Mire->Quasar->pop a blue->Stygian Circle tactic.

If you are solo, or have enough time try waiting around for a 2nd Black Dwarf Mire (Sunless Mire > Black Dwarf Mire > Single target attacks > Black Dwarf Mire > Quasar > Blue > Stygian Circle). That way you will have a damage capped Quasar and then fully recover in seconds

That's what I do when I'm on my tri-form build... I always pack about 3 or 4 blues before a mission specifically so I can completely recover 2 seconds after a Quasar...

Don't forget that you can pop Geas before the Quasar.

Granted, you can only do this once every ten minutes or so, but it is an option.

I believe it's every 25 minutes... Not really something you can depend on.

I find that I only use Geas in extreme situations such as 2 or 3 mobs packed on me at once or something similar. Usually, in those situations, I'll also pop Eye of the Magus in conjunction with it to not only counteract the -Def from Geas, but also to (obviously) help with survival in aforementioned extreme situation.

Well, with all the recharge that warshades pack into their builds, it is much less than 25 minutes. With my recharge, the calculation comes out to under ten minutes, but that's not counting the brief span of +100% recharge while the power is active.

And I do know accolade powers (well, at the very least, Geas) are (is) affected by recharge.

Interestingly enough my Eye of the Magus is up every 9 minutes with my 180% global recharge.

I concider it my second teir 9 defence power.

If you PL'd to 50 just to get an "epic" thinking you'd be ber, you're going to be sorely disappointed with the HEATs, because the VEATs were designed so that anyone with one good finger and a braincell can rock the toggles.

Hmmm... Never really paid that much attention to it or tested it myself. I was just quoting from the info posted in the information section of the power itself. I was not aware that accolade powers could be affected by your global recharge... Good to know!

Now that I think about it, it did seem to come up fairly quickly after using it during my "traditional" soloing of all the mobs in front of Romulus on the iTF the past few times I did it...

I've got a 170% global recharge on my 'shade, with a "chance for 100% +recharge" popping off for a few seconds literally every 10 or 15 seconds (or sooner) once I've built momentum... It's enough to put Hasten at perma, actually.

My Geas (and Eye of the Magus when used with it) actually comes up somewhere under 8 minutes. I highly recommend getting them both and using them both as needed. The defense from Magus stacks well with resistance from Eclipse, and long AV fights with no corpses to suck endurance off of makes Geas very useful.

Edit: And the -psy one, forgot what it's called, is also quite useful in certain situations. I wouldn't make builds around these things, but they are useful and should not be discounted.
