What happend to the Darkee's :(
Ha! That made my day.
The only DA character I play is an Elec/DA scrapper. A weird combination to be sure, and one I'm still trying to figure out 27 levels in.
Another Kat/Da here!
She was my first toon and I had no idea what I was doing (and still feel that way most days on here). I was bored while visiting family over the holidays and decided to sign up for the free trial. I had her to max level (for the trial accounts) in no time and signed on.
Anyway, the SG I belong to has a lot of respect for the toon as she does kick butt. I recently did a respec and am trying to pick up what I need to get the Defense up. I will probably post something on the boards in the next few days like her current build and looking for feedback.
Love ya, Des!
![]() It's hardly a comprehensive test, but I ran a single mission against Cimerorans last night at +2x4 (reminder for people skimming: on a soft-capped Katana/Dark). I was careful to attack Surgeons first and get my defense up with Divine Avalanche ASAP, and spammed it if my defense started dropping. I was also doing my normal inspiration use, which is to say keeping a few slots free and using what dropped as it dropped, and only dipping briefly into the rest where required before replenishing it. I was not otherwise careful, and gleefully chased runners into the next group. I had only one case of cascading defense failure. It was the only spawn in which I had to use Dark Regeneration. By the time they had me back down after that, everything was dead or running, so they weren't able to capitalize on my -50% defense for long. I can see how their own defense might be a problem if I crank up the level, and how cranking up the numbers will make cascading defense failure much more common. That's something I plan to try today to see how bad it can get. |
When accuracy gets that low, Parry has a hard time hitting, which means my melee defense is down. To add insult to (grievous) injury, I hit Dark Regen and it missed...everything. I was on the ground seconds later.
Romans and Nemesis are my build's kryptonite, I have not managed to consistently survive without support. Same problem on both: Their defense ramps up and Parry starts to miss, when that happens my defense bottoms out and it's all over.
As Bobitron noted though, my build is exceptionally strong against Rikti, Carnies, Malta, and Crey. Most Praetorians pose no serious threat either.

This probably isn't news, but With Nemesis, I target the bosses first, finish off any minions, toss out a few single target attacks to even out the lieutenants hit points at a low level, then Build Up, The Lotus Drops, and if any lieutenants are still standing, try to clean them up before Build Up wears off. Quite effective, at least with I think +2x8. Can't remember for sure what level(s) I've run them at. But that's Kismet (+6%) Tactics (+11%) and Build Up (+25%) for +42% total to-hit, plus very likely some defense debuffs. I'll have to crank it up to +4x8 and see how much worse it gets. I'm guessing I'd just have to run if any lieutenants are left alive, come back, and do it again.

Thanks for posting all the test results and the numbers to confirm why it went the way it did, guys!
I tried some +0/x8 to start and it was doable, but not particularly easy in the way my Katana/Dark can chew up Rikti. I had a few defense failures in a row and trouble hitting packed Romans. Nothing unexpected there. I ran it a bit higher and gave up before I made significant progress.
It's not that the build is bad at all. It's just a bit focused. I'll pop up my final build from home when I get a chance. It was really fun to play around with Claw's build and tweak it a bit, and fun to test it out in stressful situations.
Finally got my build done. It can be seen in this post:

Thanks to ClawsandEffect for the initial build!
Wow, never thought that build was going to get me any recognition. Wasn't trying to either.
I was just trying to make my scrapper more survivable.
Glad I could help with your toon, albeit in an indirect way.
Edit: In the interest of giving due credit, Werner deserves some props too. I based my build on his, just made it cheaper.

Thanks. As a side note, I'd planned out and posted a soft-capped Katana/Dark way back in... Idono, issue 10? 11? The compromises at that time were a little more severe, but it looked pretty good to me. I just never built it for real. So it wouldn't surprise me if other people have been running around with soft-capped Sword/Darks for quite a while. Apparently Sword/Dark used to be like fight club - you didn't talk about it.

Well,i plan on making a Dark/Dark,im just unsure if i wanna make it a Scrapper,or a Brute...most likly a Scrapper,but,we shall see.
I wanna wait till GR comes out, but,i dont think i have the patience for that.So i may just flip a coin.Dark/Dark is still a nice combo, but,i dont think from lowered damage capacity that id wanna play it on a tanker.
I may go Scrapper...simply cause the new Fury gains are a bit too frustrating for me to wanna play a Brute. Not to mention the colors of the power sets are fine, ill be keeping them classic, and i will be taking the Stealth power, not taking it because you wanna see a costume,is pretty silly, especially since the Def % is worth it.....im not sure how much itll cost to IO it to be a soft capped set,but it would be none the less interesting.
You now have the option of seeing your costume even with the stealth power on.

If you get to about 30% defense to all positions with a Dark/Dark you should be in good shape though.

I actually started up a dark/dark scrapper recently, and after looking at Desmodo's guide build, I did some tinkering with Mids and came up with this...

If you have a free respec and can copy to test, I'd be interested to see if Obsidian Gloom slotted with lots of Acc basically solves the problem. (For some reason I think they are resistant to fear but I can't remember why I think that. I think I tried them on my Dark when I hit 40...)
Once their shields are out and they are next to one another, they are protected from stun. OG won't do anything unless you're fighting just one guy, in which case it's not needed anyway.
Cloak of Fear is a bit better in that they aren't protected from fear - my Dark Defenders and Corruptors do well against them. But at +4 you're going to have a hell of a time hitting them given CoF's low accuracy and their mad +Def, and the duration is going to be really low. So while it'll probably help, I'm not sure it'll make enough of a difference. Edit: Yeah, I see Werner already confirmed this.
