Only a few sets left to try - need help picking one!

I'm going to make a new scrapper and I could use a little advice.

I'm probably going to choose Regeneration as my secondary because I haven't really tried that yet and I want the early endurance boost from Quick Recovery. Electric Armor does sound cool, though. It's down to Dark Melee, Dual Blades or Electric Melee for a primary.

This character will solo, team and duo with a blaster friend. I'd like to be able to defend my blaster friend, but I can't stand playing a tank.

That's my situation. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I personally am not a huge fan of Dual Blades, I find the combo system limiting especially on teams.

Dark and Electric are both decent pairings with regen. Both have ways of mitigating some of the spike damage (Fear and knockdown). Im playing both right now, and having a blast with them in the late teens.

Standard disclaimer that you can't go wrong with any choice, blah, blah, blah, here's my thoughts :

Dark Melee has long animations and hasn't much for AoEs. This is likely to make it harder keeping aggro.

Dual Blades has 3 AoEs, but it's a short radius PBAoE and 2 cones. As it's a weapon primary, it'll also make you redraw everytime you use a regen click.

Electric melee has 4 AoEs, 2 of them being knockdown which helps you and your friend at the same time. While the ST damage is lower than the other two options, hokey voodoo stuff and ancient weapons (even dualwielded) are no match for a good blaster at your side, so I wouldn't worry about that.

How is this a problem? I'd swear that years ago the idea of attacks with weapon redraw were taking more time than if already drawn was debunked. Is mad cow finally taking its toll on my poor old brain?

Hmm... would Dark/Regen be too much self-healing or is there no such thing?

I think I'd go Elec/Regen myself. I'd think Regen's too clicky for DB (redraws, possible (tho prolly rare) combo interrupts, etc).

I wasn't there years ago so I can't tell, but if it's been debunked, then the devs have introduced it on purpose since then, because there's definitely a difference that is objectively measurable. It's about half a second for Dual Blades.

There is no such thing as too much self healing.

My first 50 was DM/Regen. Loved it. My elm/regen hit 50 last night. Loved it.

As for as all this redraw and regen talk. I've stopped mid combo to use sands of mu and still pulled off the combo with redraw and all. If I have time to use sands of mu, taking time to hit any of the regen clicks should be a non issue.

As far as my pick, I'm gonna say elm/regen. Mostly because it plays so different and because Lightning Rod is...

It WAS debunked years ago. And then the game was changed. Redraw is no longer baked into the activation times of most weapon sets. This was a BIG buff to the weapon sets when it was done, but redraw then became an actual concern. I forget the exception(s) to the rule - maybe Spines?

Definitely no such thing. The more self healing you have the more "Oh look I wandered into a group of +X's" you can be =)

Seven years of heroism. Seven years of friendships. Seven years of saving the world. Seven years of virtuous selflessness.

I decided on Electric Melee/Regeneration. I like the way Electric Melee looks and feels compared to Dark Melee. Thanks for the responses all!

Yeah, I'm tempted to say that too, but Regen's big weakness isn't usually "not enough healing," which is what Siphon Life gives you, but damage spikes, which DM doesn't do a lot about, to hit debuffs aside. I prefer pairing DM w/defensive sets (DM/SD here), so that you can heal back the occasional lucky shots that get through. Then again, you can't really go wrong w/pairing Regen w/anything.
