I came to CoX after years playing a different MMO, one in which the auction house worked a little different. In that game there was more play in the bidding, if an item was selling for 5k you could bid less on it than that and still maybe get one. The sale went to the bidder who bid closest without going under to price the seller posted. in CoX terms, if I bid 1mil for a Numinas, I'm not likely to get it because most are selling for 50mil, but if someone who just didnt want to or couldnt pay the fee to post the item at 50mil and only posted it for 500k I'd get it with my 1 mill bid because i was closest to that 1 sale price. now, to change bidding strategies, sorry to have wasted the threads time, lol

Oh no no, I wasn't having a go or a dig.. and you heven't wasted any time.

I only posted cause i think that may be why you've not got them yet... I hope it helps.

Honest

Out of curiosity which game was this? It's an interesting mechanic (sort of an inverse "The Price is Right") but I wouldn't have thought it would be particularly good for the market. Seems to me there's strong incentive for a single person (or a group if there's a low bids/person limit) to place bids across a wide range of prices to ensure that you get it and at a low price.

I'm pretty sure I have a level 50 Numina Heal enhancement, already crafted, up for sale. They don't seem undersupplied, though.

For basics about how the market works, I suggest reading a guide or two from the market guide sticky at the top of this forum.

It was Final Fantasy Online. It was an interesting system, but the economy was a bit more complex as well. You could only bid on a very limited# of items, 8? maybe at a time, it's been a while. You could only stack certain items like arrowheads so some things, particularly expensive things, you could only bid on or sell 1 per slot. And there was also a personal bazaarth where people who looked at your bio could buy items in your inventory if you put a price on them. Most people just kept 1 or 2 crazy expensive items on bazarre, as well as whatever they wanted to brag they had(they just set its price to 999,999,999 so no one in their right mind would buy it, and if they did you just got max gold)

As for the bidding low on things, it happened, if you had an extra auction house slot you werent using it wasnt uncommon to bid 100 gold for a multimillion item in hopes of a typo by the seller. But the listing that told how m uch and what time the items sold for, also told who sold and who bought so if this did happen the two player could get in touch and work it out.

It was fun, I wish CoX had a personal bazaar system.

The good news is that most folks hereabouts don't have any problem with "noobs", as such. Everybody started out not knowing most of this stuff. Especially when it's poorly documented or just plain obscure.

The flame wars start when people who don't know how it works come in and start arguing about how it works with everyone who knows how it works.

Or when people disagree with how it operates. lol. I don't mind using WW, my biggest problem is the drop rates. People say palce 2 or 3 bids or more on items, but at the going rates alot of people can't afford to place multiple bids on high price items. Not to mention that some pieces haven't had a sell since Sept.
