Nope, Arctic Sun was basically the Gilgamesh replacement, but I honestly can't recall him ever doing anything besides 2 or 3 Paragon Times that, honestly, weren't anywhere near Gil's.

On topic, I've always been a little sad that SSOCS never went through. For those who don't remember, the Super Secret Out of Combat System was introduced by Statesman as 'what your characters did while they're not saving the world'. This may sound like the Day Job system, which is what it became eventually, but the original SSOCS promised extra abilities tied to your 'job' - like a demolitions expert/bomb squad member could spot where bombs were located on the mission map. Thinking about it, it could really throw balance out of whack, but I've always thought that it would be fun.

The 'new' Epic ATs that never showed up disappointed me, too. Avilians, anyone? Incarnates? It seems silly that they basically announced them then never talked about them and finally, months later, said that they wouldn't work and kind of swept them under the rug. We still get glimpses here and there of Incarnates, especially in Cimerora if memory serves, but I'm doubtful if that wil lever really go anywhere. And that's a shame, since the Devs were building up a storyline there ever since City of Villains was released. Half of the Port Oakes content relates to Incarnates, and there's even a landmark tied to it (view Oil Spill from the air). But it's hardly moved since.

I remember those guys that one mission in the desert sucked because of them! Speaking of the GW desert we need those "key" teleport gates that were out there for the Orabagen maps

As far as I understood it, one subset of the skill system was "Invention" and it's pretty obvious what happened to that...

Fixed. And, to be fair, it's not like Avilans could really go anywhere now that we have costume wings (and Kheldians undercut the whole inherent travel power bonus).

I don't think people are giving the Avilans enough thought. Yes originally They were going to be the only way to get wings, then we got costume wings and Avilans were removed from the building.

But I would still like to see Avilans though. Why? Because the wings we have are costume bits. I would love to see wings(and flight) actually integrated into combat.

Yes we have wings, but they are vestigial. Even with the ability to fly the wings we have are just there. Why not have an AT that could actually use them in combat?

Blood of the Black Stream! I had forgotten about that. I have no idea what it was supposed to be, but I still want it!

True but Avilans could equal functional wings that are integrated into combat.

No, Avilans (an epic AT designed to get characters with wings into the game) were wholly replaced by wings costume pieces available to everyone.

I know that Avilans were originally going to be the way to get wings. Then the Devs figured out how to make wings work as a costume piece, and removed Avilans entirely.

I believe with wings being used as a costume that there COULD be an interesting gameplay mechanic introduced by having wings that can actually be used in combat with powers incoproating wing based attacks.

This would be where Avilans could stand out, but they've been removed from the building.

Port Oakes has nothing to do with Incarnates, you're confusing them with the Blood of the Black Stream. They even get mentioned by name in a Port Oakes story arc but then nothing else ever again.
