Clockwork Costume Code Contest

I'm a little late in getting this set up, but here it is: During Get Tanked on the 29th, I mentioned that I was going to give away the Praetorian Clockwork costume I got from Hero-Con. However, I don't have a worth contest to determine who should be the recipient.

Thus, I'm taking suggestions here in this thread for contest ideas. I will pick one to be run on the next Get Tanked show (Nov 6) and the winner of whatever the contest is gets the code. I'm looking for something more intricate than a costume contest, and something less in-depth than the trivia contest that happened at the Con. Also, remember that I'll probably be doing this solo, so any contest where I'd need multiple people probably won't work.

Any ideas?

How bout a scavenger hunt?

And I'd be glad to help you out with it - course... now that I suggest it... the idea I have in mind would require several others. So.. perhaps I'm not that helpful.

Ok then... how bout hide and go seek. Offer a clue to where you'll be, then go hide. Offer points to the first person/people to find you, then do it again several times.

Oh.. and whatever you decide to do.. if I can help, let me know.

How about a more comprehensive contest that consists of several parts?
Each contestant will be given points at the end of each part and whoever has the most points at the end wins.

You can have sections like the following (feel free to add or subtract ideas):
Costume Contest
Arena FFA
No travel power race (You can use Ouro to set the no travel option)
CoH Trivia
And whatever else you want to put people through.

If somebody you're arguing with goes off the deep end, don't follow.

Something that could test primarily a player's knowledge of the game, or got the opposite end and have it based on skill alone.

I also like kid's idea of accumulating points spread out thru a few smaller events. Gives everyone a better chance to win than if it was only one type of competition.

I'd avoid costume contests entirely for this, since already happening daily, but that's me.

  • Trivia contest (centering around the Clockworks?). Whenever trivia contests occurred in the past I noticed that contestants and spectators really got into it.
  • PvP action. Harder to handle, but could be popular if players feel they have a chance (no grouping of l33t killers with IO'd out builds and 3 month vets who just realized IOs existed, for example).
  • Bio or Fiction Contest.
  • Hide and Seek / Scavenger Hunt. I think Sooner got a winner there.
  • Seek and Destroy. A given enemy type is given out and points given to the first one to find and defeat one. More complex since requires a ref to be teamed with each player. This is actually an event I'm thinking of for the Mentor Project.

I'd avoid costume contests entirely for this, since already happening daily, but that's me. Or... spin it differently by making use of powers mandatory to check out customizations.

Of course, I'll volunteer for any help you need running this great contest. I would especially like to get some trivia questions out to you if you're interested.

You know, we at PERC have been thinking of having another player auction in a few months. Maybe if you want of course, you could offer your code up as part of it, along with whatever else you'd like to put up for bid as it were. Again just a thought.

Well, the player auction is certainly an interesting option, and something I will keep in mind if the actual contest I pick out has a poor turn out. Having the multi tier event makes it difficult to run during the course of my show, but I have an idea that may make it more interesting.

How long ago was that?

Player Auction worked really, really well for accumulating funds for the New Player Welcoming Night when I ran it.

As a matter of fact, most of the funds transferred over by bamawolfie to me were left from that one single night many months ago (unsure about exact date).

Weird timing too, I was talking to Troy Hickman just yesterday and he mentioned still owing someone something from that auction...

I'm going back to getting influence now, just on the off chance this is happening.

A race through the Abandoned Sewers to the trial mission door (or wherever you happen to be standing).

While that is a cool idea.... it has the disad of being limited to those able to enter the abandoned sewers, and a HUGE advantage going to those with the [Reveal] power.

Or have the participants start in Oro, set to an arc in that range and then turn off temp powers and have them use AT powers only. It'd make for a creative run to the finish point.

What about a riddle contest?

I don't really see how this would stop anything, they would just hit the reveal power before the start of the contest. Of course, then there are folks who actually do things like map out places like the Abandoned Sewers.

An interesting idea, but I'm not that good at making up riddles.

It was also suggested that I take this little shin-dig to Pocket D on Test, that way I can make this thing cross server.

If everyone starts in Oro, then if they were to hit Reveal, it'd just be for Oro. Once the tf starts, they can't use it again unless they were to quit the TF, which would disqualify them from participating.

But if they used Reveal in the sewers before they ever GOT to ouroboros.... then the map is revealed and they have the advantage.

I like the auction idea. It's swell :-D

For those who have ran to the sewer trial entrance enough times, they're gonna have an advantage with or without a map. The question is, do you want this to be a contest of skill, of knowledge, or of both?

If you wanna make it really open to everyone, advertise it in Player Events and have people PM you their global names, then draw one out of a hat.

Ideas that fit your criteria:
  • More intricate than a costume contest
  • less in depth than HeroCon's trivia contest
  • can be run during your show
  • can be run with a minimum of people.

Hide and go seek
Sewer race (which has multiple problems, but still fits the criteria)
Riddle Contest
Seek and Destroy
Trivia Contest
No travel power race
Arena stuff (potential problem but still an option)

Oh... and I think you should keep it on Protector... but, that's just me.

This one is just flat out wrong:

No "travel power" race from PI to the Storm Palace.

Perhaps, but I'm still working on the details of a level 1, no-travel-power race from AP to FBZ...

Didnt they remove level restrictions on Zones? So this would be possible.

That is sort of what I was running on the assumption of, which I just confirmed on a level 5.

Hide and Seek, or tag, in the regular sewers might be fun (with whoever is "it" not on the team).

The problem with regular Hide and Seek across all zones, is that whoever is "it" will need to enter hidden mode. If they forget, someone can just use the search feature. Or, one person/SG could have eyes all over several zones to help them out. In the sewers, you have a better chance of telling if someone is there that shouldn't be.
