Team PvP Tourney

Recently a few have expressed interest in a team PvP tourney. I have always enjoyed Team PvP however most of the events PvPEC wise are never preset teams. I am thinking about running a 1 billion Inf tourney next month. I do have a few questions to ask of those that might attend. .

5v5 or Pentad is my biggest question. Personally I am partial to Pentads.

Arena Settings, I prefer, Diminishing Returns on, Heal Decay Off and Travel Supression Off.

Tier 1 Inp's only and arena temps. no SoW's (Sirens Call PvP reward not the WP tier 9)

I am thinking double elimination as I have never been a big fan of single elimination except for 1v1.

Because I believe the Sudden Death is fairly convoluted if a match ends in a tie regardless of the Sudden Death result each team will pick 2 players and they will go in a 10 min match to determine the outcome.

The basic rules, no spawn camping, trash talking and so on.

The last thing is I would like 8 teams at a minimum. I know that may seem like alot but an 8 team Tourney would be a blast.

Let me know what you guys think.

Sounds great!

My observations:

  • One night events are infinitely better than tournaments that go on for several days. Matches are hard to schedule and people lose interest over time.
  • The more requirements you put on team makeup, the harder it is to field a team. Pentads are great fun but its harder to get one of each than 5 of anything.
  • Along the same lines, the smaller the team size, the easier it is to field a team

Agreeing with Flea here. The pentad plus last summer (before I13) was kinda cool because there were actually enough PvPers on Justice to field enough unique teams to make that work, but I'm not sure if that's the case this go-around. Heck, the last attempt at a tournament on Justice didn't end well and that was a 3v3. Finishing it over one or two nights is probably in everyone's best interests. Of course, depending what time of day it is and what day of the week it is, I won't likely be able to attend unless I know a few weeks ahead of time (need to ask time off work if it's in the evening), but I'm hoping I can make it and I wish you luck in getting this off the ground.

EDIT:If you're going to stretch this out over several weeks instead of getting it done in one or two nights, you might be better-served by turning it into a ladder instead of just a tournament. Have a set of round-robin ranking matches to determine initial standings and then set up rules for challenges from there (i.e. one team challenges another and the challenged team has two weeks to accept the challenge and play a match or the challenged team forfeits that match). Dunno how well that'd work, but just throwing it out there.

Don't usually get involved in PVP but if you need to make up numbers and I'm on send me a tell

Little less conversation - little more action please

I definitely need to get into the PvP tourny scene, but since I13 I hear things have been rather slow.

Regardless, I'd love to sign on for this.

What I am looking at is a 1 night tourney. I do not think an extended tourney would be a good idea currently.

8 teams double elimination in a similar random draw structure that we ran the October PvPEC event I believe would work well.

We could go with teams of 4 any AT's and keep it completely open. Set signups 2 weeks in advance to allow everyone time to get their teams together.

I think this leaves things open and allows the tourney to run in a single night.

The next questions is a good day. I am partial to Friday or Saturday Evening since that is usually the best peak times for everyone however if ther eis a better day please let me know.

So you're thinking 4v4 then? Or is this still 5v5?

Depending on what my work schedule is like, I'd be more than happy to join the event.

Will this be random selected teams?

I have found that 9 - 10 pm eastern is a good time to start most events. It's early enough on the east coast so that folks are still awake and late enough on the west coast to allow people to get home from work.

If it's on Saturday, that time also allows most Oceanics to make it too.

Any more details as to a potential date? Need to start thinking about getting time off work if it won't be too late by then.

Last question before I finalize everything. Friday or Saturday Night, the 20th or 21st? The time would be 6 pm Pacific for either.

I will get the announcement ready to post next week (Monday probably)

Just a note 4v4 the teams will be organized by those playing. (Preset) I will have a signup thread on Monday also.

Ice Knight, I'll throw in an additional 400 million influence/infamy to the winning team (100 mil each player on 4 man team).

This will be close to 1.5 billion tourney
