Praetorians, Timelines & You
When Going Rogue comes out, will you be making Praetorian versions of any of your current characters?
Since Praetoria is not a mirror-universe, just a universe with an alternate timeline, not all Praetorians will need to be opposite-faction. From my understanding of the information given so far, most of the timeline changes occur because of Marcus Cole/Statesman/Tyrant's actions, which happen during the 20th century. For me, all/most of my characters who are bicentennial or older or time travelers or of another planet or are supernatural entities, will have a Praetorian version. My other characters may or may not be included, since with the alternate timeline, it is possible they were never born at all. Characters of mine who may have Praetorian counterparts include: Edwin Schmidt: As a time-traveling madman inventor from the 1800s, he could exist in a Praetorian version. He'll probably align with the Resistance, building technologies for them. Or maybe something evil, with the Clockwork. Extrasensory: Unsure. In Primal Earth, she doesn't remember anything before 2002, but in Praetorian Earth, she may have her full memory. So I'm not sure how she would be. With knowledge of her past memories, she may be evil, or she may be good. Phantoma Storm: Phantoma Storm will have an alternate version. She's a Hero now, but the Primal Earth version of her will start to go Vigilante or Rogue once GR drops. Since she will return to life each time she dies, and has faced numerous counts of persecution, she's somewhat bitter towards mortal humanity. The Praetorian version may experience the same hardships and seek vengeance and align as a Villain, or she may be bitter towards Emperor Cole instead and seek to take him down by aligning with the Resistance. Dr. Amy Byrd: Amy isn't even from this planet, so her Praetorian Earth version may not be different at all from her Primal Earth version. Amy arrived to Primal Earth during the first Rikti War, so she may not even make it to Earth at all if the Rikti don't exist in Praetoria. But if she arrives, she'll likely align with the Praetorian Police Department. Amethystar: Amethystar is a former hero in Primal Earth, but is now dead. Her Praetorian version may still be alive (but she'd be hella old). Officer Hart: Nick Hart is a cop for the PPD in Primal Earth, so will probably be a cop for Praetorian Police Department in Praetorian Earth. So he'll be a villain. What characters are YOU going to make Praetorian versions of? And what side will they take? |
Cole does not time and time again save humanity only to let them screw up. He saves humanity and takes over.
Nemesis does not exist in Praetoria therefore there are no Rikti. They aren't looking for us.
33% of the budget goes toward the PPD to keep out subversive elements that they don't believe will be able to get in to Nova Praetoria.
Some Powered Folk are shipped off to random places to 'help' and never write letters home. Some families who complain they haven't heard from them are allowed to 'visit' but I didn't get a sense that they came back... >_>
I wasn't taking good notes at the Praetoria Panel, my apologies.
I got the distinct impression that 'sent off to the far corners of the world' meant they were killed discretely, and the same happens to those who question what happens.
As for what else happened at the panel... Chimera is in charge of the 'Secret Ops' side of the PPD (the Praetoria Police Department). The villians we know of as the Preatorians- Mother Mayhem, Marauder and the rest are Preators as their Day Job- they run the day to day workings of Preatoria, and report to Emperor Cole.
The main inspirations mentioned were 1984, Red Son and Farenheit 451.
There was more, but I can't remember off the top of my head...
Gulver: Who? No one like that exist in Praetorian Earth. Must be the name of some loser.
In the Arena of Logic, I fight unarmed.
Too late, i long ago made Praetorian Plague (Emp/Rad Defender), there is no reason to wait for going rogue. Since i rarely play redside this next edition is all hype, i have no interest in it. With AE you could also write your own praetorian stories.
Good luck and lets hope (cross fingers) this edition actually works well. I would prefer they fix whats broken and re-release it such as ASN, Base Raids, IoP's, and add more stuff to AE, but i wouldnt count on it.

There will always be things that don't work. That's what you get with an evolving product. Base raids you're not gonna get till after Going Rogue. That's what they are focused on, so you may as well get over it.
You know what? I figured it out. You post just to oppose everyone else.
Congratz, you have the Drama-Queen Title. Enjoy.
I'm curious if you even ever pay attention to what's going on in the world or if you just make stuff up as you read it and if you really believe that is what is going on. Going Rogue is New Zones. New ATs. A whole new world and I may have forgotten to mention but Carnival of Light... Yes... they were hinted at by Posi. AE is nothing like what Devs write, what we always ask for 'new content.' If you're not interested in it, I'll expect to never see you in Nova Praetoria.

I bet the OP regrets saying anything negative about GR now...
I hope you post your previous comment there, it will be highly amusing.
Hmmm maybe because i am not an old time vet i am still trying to enjoy what is already here and want to see what was broken fixed and improved. But i can see your point. The devs want and need to move forward. You guys have probably played the old content to death and really need some new excitement.
This new edition does sound very innovative and i hope this edition runs a lot more smoothly than the past ones. With Cimerora and Ouroboros the devs have already proved they are masters at worldbuilding. Let's hope that "Going Rogue" has that same feel and quality.

Her point #1: She feel that need to fix items in the existing game before moving on. I "somewhat" agree. We definitely need new stuff, but for someone who hasn't experience everything in the game.... It's just something they will get to eventually. I do agree that existing features still need repair.
Her point #2: Praetoria has been done to death. Come on, who can argue this? When CoV was first introduced the vast majority of players already created Praetorians of their characters. Praetoria is not a good setting for Going Rogue, it was originally marketed as "Mirror Universe" although now they are trying to step away from that. As such, when creating a Praetorian version, your first thought is to create a character of opposite alignment.
Actually, I see what FD wrote in her original post and "somewhat" agree with her. I really don't think we need to jump on her everytime she posts.

The 1st part of this IS negative and a bit snarky. I think this is what sets people off 1st. Had she perhaps approached it the way she did here

Its like 2 completely different people post under FD's name at times.
lol popcorn time tag!
heh, introspectively, guess some of us are guilty for our excessive snarky and sarcastic comments. And it hurts a bit when you're at the end of it. I know ive done my share on the Defenders forum.
Despite frustrations, ive learned to backspace crap that would be recognizable as "hey, this is gonna make me look like an A-hole in front of everyone!" - cuz it doesnt do anybody ANY good but pisses people off at you, despite the "intent" of the message. There are always more civil ways to convey a message in more acceptable means.
im gonna have to say there was no snarkiness in either posts.... :P
the first post poses a strong opinion, and everyone expects that out of Felecia.
nevertheless, its an opinion that doesnt step on anyone's toes. Maybe its an opinion that omits ALOT of GR-added material in its consideration, but thats her opinion w/o snarkiness :P
I think that most of you are missing what wll make Going Rogue the second best thing they either will add or have added to this game (Right behind the SSK system and just in front of Common IOs):
It will open up both teaming opportunities and all game content to every player no matter what AT they want to play or side they prefer. Combined with XP while Exemplared and enhancers that never go bad, it really doesn't get any better than that.
"I never said thank you." - Lt. Gordon
"And you'll never have to." - the Dark Knight
Anyway, i may make Praetorian versions of a few alts from other servers, but it's far more likely i'll create a whole new crop of Praetorian alts.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...

That, and Dual Pistols. Heard that the video at Hero Con made it look like it was straight from Equilibrium!
I would have made a Praetorian alt of Shaytanah, my fave toon, but they already ripped off half her f*ckin' bio and made Desdemona.
Oh, there had better be a mish where I can stomp my cloven hooves on her face...
Ha!
For me, we finally made a "purpose" for the SG, the Pillars of Might, then CoH came out with the Midnight Squad. Exact same "purpose" and "Description".
There's no such thing as a truly original idea anymore, sadly.
