Kat/SR Softcap w/o Weave AM I gimping myself??

Like the title says... Just got back into the game after about a year off and am looking to update my scrapper. Currently have weave in the build which allows for softcap and playing with mids i can now softcap w/o it which leaves me with some extra power choices.. Something thats a luxury in any SR build. Am I missing anything? I am shorting myself on the dmg side? Only thing i noticed with the sets is i seem to be shorting myself slightly on acc.. Thoughts....

Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that that is at *least* a billion influence build - probably lots more. I don't often check the prices of the biggest shinies, but with 2 of the most in-demand purple sets and a PvP set, it's gonna be massively expensive. I hope you have lots of cash hanging around.

Aside from that, while ToD has poor acc enhancement values, that build is also rocking 50% global acc, so I wouldn't sweat it - especially since you'll be doing a bit of defense debuffing too. Worry more about finding the money.

I'm no uber scrapper guru, so I'm sure Bill Z or someone will be along shortly to actually critique the build. Just wanted to warn you about the cost in case you were somehow unaware.

Im aware of the mass amounts of money it will run. I have the purple sets already along with a couple Lotg's so im most of the way there.

Not sure if theres a better power to put at 47 and or 49. Stealth isnt needed to get over the soft cap and I can put the obliterations in GD and lose some recharge to stay softcapped as well...

thanks for the critiques!

The Panacea set will cost you at least 2.5bn alone (the unique is at least 1.2bn, the Heal and Heal/Rech I bought for 500m-600m each a month ago, assorted other pieces are 100m-200m at least). More than price, though, is the problem that desirable PvP IOs only rarely appear on the market. If you use them in a build you need to be aware that it will not be completed anytime soon, regardless of how vast your resources are.

I wouldn't recommend taking Sting of the Wasp. You are already quite close to being able to run the Golden Dragonfly > Gambler's Cut > Soaring Dragon > Gambler's Cut ST attack chain which is the highest DPS Katana can put out, so you don't really need another ST attack. Unless you really hate melee cones, taking Flashing Steel for the AoE would be much better (and it's a really large cone). And it takes Obliteration, which gives recharge as well.

I would also argue that you don't need Physical Perfection, since you are not running the Fighting pool. My own Kat/SR can basically run the above attack chain indefinitely with just Conserve Power 1-slotted with recharge.

Is there a reason you have Hurdle, Swift, CJ and SS? Personally I would skip PP and Swift to take Aid Other/Self for a heal, but it's your preference.

Kismet is a proc. It does not apply unless you run the power it's slotted in. Unless you plan to run Stealth all the time, I'd try to put it elsewhere.

Your attacks are all 91%-95% to hit +4 enemies (you need to toggle on Stealth for Mids' to count the Kismet unique) and you have -Def in your attacks so I'd say you're fine on the accuracy front.

Cost is cost.... im not looking to complete the build tomorrow... The Panacea set also doesnt affect my defense so it wont be a first priority...

I was using Sting as a mule so a switch to Flashing works out better with the added recharge from the obliteration set. So that switch seems like a good idea. The goal would be to run GD GC SD GC as the chain. Lotus drops was put in as a mule or for occasional AOE use as well...

As for swift hurdle CJ and SS along with PP.. Im a speed freak. I usually go faster than anyone i team with and i like all the unsupressed movement speed i can get. I was actually contemplating putting in Gota run spds to add more speed! It also goes nicely with my "natural" theme. Medicine pool just doesnt appeal to me with the activation to aid self.

Will Physical Perfection allow me to run Focused Accuracy instead of taking CP? I could take the slot from CP and add it to focused fighting and put the kismet proc there. And that leaves stealth as a concept pick only as its defense isnt needed to reach the cap and its not being used as a mule.

Thanks for the help...

Any thing else i might be overlooking? Am i overextending myself endurance wise by dropping CP and adding FA while still running PP??

Thanks again!

I haven't run the numbers, but I don't think you'll be able to run your attack chain indefinitely if you also want to run Focused Acc without CP. I wouldn't recommend taking Focused Acc in any case. It was heavily nerfed in the year you were away, it's only 5% ToHit unslotted now (although it still gives ToHitDebuff resistance).

In order to run GD > GC > SD > GC you need 265% recharge in Golden Dragonfly. Minus 70% from hasten and 89.9% from your slotting, you still need 105.1% from global recharge to get there. Annoyingly, I couldn't get enough global recharge so I had to take out the Achilles Heel proc in GD to get there. Try this build:

Hello all, i think this is my 1st post (thou im an anxious reader).

Just, was compelled to post something about my "favourite" scarpper ie. the Kat/SR
(Well, it happened to be my 1st char, so... obviously i love that combo )

Why you want to take PP and slot Panacea in it beats me? (have no PvP experience, so maybe its about those bonuses?)
The power itself (with your slotting) is giving you only ~3hp/sec regen more and 0.23 endu/s recovery... (excluding the IO set bonuses ofc)

Another thing, why so much defence? Atleast in the build posted by Laevateinn, you have a suplus of ~4% in all positions... *shrug*

Dunno if you loathe tough, but... i included that. (Mainly a mule for +3% steadfast but also some resistance doesnt really hurt)

Also permahaste (for whats its worth) ... and atleast i "love" fireball, dunno if you have made your mind about PP thou...
Included Ragnarok in Fireball, could also use posi blast, if dont like the purple in it...

I kept the softcap and squeezed a bit more global recharge out of it. Switched evasion over to red fortune, switched health to a 5 miracle/numina unique and added the slot i was using for kismet to agile. Puts all def at 45.4 and according to mids has 175% recharge with hasten up. SO I need 90% rch on GD correct? Is this the pre or post ED number? Mids is adding 20% rch for quickness which you didnt include in your calcs...

Heres my final rework..

Moved a few things around which leaves 47/49 open. Here i have selected Aid Other/Self but can easily be switched for Swift and Stealth. No slots available for either. Thinking about it i realized i run SS pretty much perma so swift is great for those few moments until suppresion wears off but Aid Self might be a bit handier in a pinch. Hasten got moved to 12 and agile bumped to 24 with the thought this might be a little friendlier if i was to exemp down.

For cost reasons I put regen tissue in PP and only lost 2.5% global recharge...

Overall Im pretty impressed. Without Panacea and already having the purples the cost of the changes isnt really that big at all. On to building!!

In order to run GD > GC > SD > GC you need 265% recharge in Golden Dragonfly. Minus 70% from hasten and 89.9% from your slotting, you still need 105.1% from global recharge to get there. In order to run Golden Dragonfly > Gambler's Cut > Soaring Dragon > Gambler's Cut you need 250% recharge in Golden Dragonfly and not 265%.

Gambler's Cut - Adjusted Cast Time = 0.924
Soaring Dragon - Adjusted Cast Time = 1.584

0.924 * 2 + 1.584 = 3.432
12/3.432 = 3.4965034965034965034965034965035 -1 = 2.4965034965034965034965034965035
2.496 rounded up = 250% recharge

For the other three powers...

Gambler's Cut (second power in the chain) = 52% recharge
Soaring Dragon = 136% recharge
Gambler's Cut (last power in the chain) = 90% recharge

You are right. I'm not sure how the 265% figure got lodged in my head.

Then I defenitly have the recharge needed for the chain...

Anything else i might be missing? Any power picks that might fit better for 47/49?

Swift/Stealth for unsupressed speed
Aid Other/Self for a heal
Could boxing/tough be beneficial? Extra Resistance?

Im torn so I guess i might just have to playtest to see what combo fits best...

Thanks for the help!

Aid other is decent, but when used in combat it will hurt your dps somewhat.

I like kick/boxing + tough (and many times also weave) personally, since both kick/boxing can be used to mule something useful in and while tough doesnt add a lot, it still ads up. Additionally, /sr dont have any other resistances, so...

The ancillary power pools are mostly personal preference and some like something more than others. What are you missing? (or are you?) If you could somehow "fix" that by using power pools, then you will probably find the best combo for you. (umm... actually same goes with eg. adding swift etc...)

If you are only keeping aid self single slotted, I'd drop it. its not going to help you much.

I six slotted Aid Self on my claws/SR. 5xdoctored wounds and one level 50 interrupt. I heal about 500ish. but if I am surrounded I will still get interrupted at times. I'd drop it and just rely on greens.

Well, /SR does have awesome scaling resistances.

Exactly why I thought Tough might be a decent addition. with health in the red id have 30% res with the scaling trio of auto powers. Stack on the 13% from the one slotted tough and it doesnt look too bad... Or stick with aid self as my only heal...

But with that build I have no slots to give unless i moved PP to 50 and moved its slots to tough or aid self...

Aid Self 5 slotted with Dctrd Wounds would deliver a much better heal (still interuptible)

Tough 5 slotted with impervious skin for the recharge bonus delivers 15.5% S/L res which would stack with the scaling resists in the SR set... But its another toggle

And both allow for the regen tissue unique in PP at 49... which I keep for the added recovery. Im a firm beleiver that you cant have too much!

Anyone with experience with SR and Tough vs Aid Self?

I think either of these build trumps the final I had before. The loss of the regen tissue set is easily made up for in both builds and adds a strong heal or constant set and forget it resistance... Pros and Cons??

TIA!!

I'm not sure I'm the person to chime in here because I'm only at lvl 37, but I am playing Kat/SR. I am building towards box/tough/weave since it is cheap to cap, but the build I'm hoping for (if I can get the IOs) includes heal. My problem is that I have to carry a ton of greens not only for emergency heals, but also for low health heals. After many battles I'm low on health - I like many others like to try to max out diff settings. So I either use a green, rest, wait for rest to recharge if it's close, or just stand around regen until close to full health. So I would like to have a heal for these situations and when I need a heal against a small number of opponents. I imagine I'll still need to carry some greens for "emergency" heals against many opponents, which is OK with me. Tough, to me, just seems like extra regen, which doesn't seem worth two skills picks - I don't need box for mule IO. That might not be very helpful, but just a thought from a fellow Kat/SR.

I'd try and fit some more HP bonuses in there. If a few lucky shots land in a row it's gonna suck, more HP will helop cushion that. The only thing I see off hand is swapping a couple of the Miracles in Health for Numina's.

You could also probably get away with swapping your Touch of Death set for Mako's Bite. Probably won't hurt your defense any.

Heal with Kat/SR is not "needed" but is is a "nice-to-have" feature.
It depends what you like and how often you use the heal, gonna do AVs? You mind the 4s loss of DPS it makes? Could you fit BOTH tough and heal in?

I personally would take the build with tough, but i also have a build with heal (actually my original idea and then respecced my 2nd SO build to IO with tough and fireball)

But again, i'd still say its personal pref. and i would take the tough and quaff greens when needed
(hmm... im repeating myself here... dang, gotta stop replying i guess... eek.)

*edit*
Oh also about the set mules, Kick with 3 slots can give 1.5% dmg and 1.88% ranged def
5 slot boxing with purple absolute amazement is nice, but if you can spare 6 slots it could fit in stupefy or razzle dazzle for decent bonuses, however slots are typically needed somewhere else, so...

ps. Claws there has a nice sig saying:
"Because everyone else is doing it is the best reason not to."

remember that

pps.
