Grav/Kin - Fire/Kin Opinions

Just curious if anyone has an opinion about this. EVERYONE has fire/kins and it just seems kind of cliché to build, plus they suck at low levels and I can't even get them very high. What do people think about Grav/Kin? They seem to be pretty good at the lower levels. Has anyone had any experience with them?

Thanks in advance.

Fire is better than grav because of the damage output and the fast recharge stun.
While grav has a fast recharge control, it's not as easy to use as fire (wormhole), and grav damage is quite weak compared to fire, not to mention that imps > singularity for damage.

If you want something as effective as fire, with good damage, nice fast recharge control, I'd sugest plant. Perma creepers, seeds of confusion up often and the AoE immob is the most damaging in the game from all control sets. The pet is not as good as the imps, but the little flytrap will keep everything immobilized for you

As said, fire>gravity if you're looking for damage, although gravity has respectable single target damage. On the other hand, singularity>imps for tanking and controlling and is one of the better pets in the game. Gravity is a functional middle of the road set, although many believe it underperforms and could use tweaking. That aside, grav/kin is a fun combo to play, assuming you actually want to play the game and not just farm x8 maps.

I think grav is awful. Why not go plant/kin ? There isnt as many as fire/kin and it is still very good.

If you want to go /kin I'd agree with this.

If you want a decent damage build other than Fire/Kin and you're not set on /Kin secondary, any of the following would work:

Fire/Storm
Fire/Rad
Plant/Kin
Plant/Storm
Illusion/Storm
Ill/Kin

I'm sure that others will add to these.

IMO Grav needs some buffing, damage is OK but the powers can be difficult to use effectively.

To sum up Gravity - it's quirky with some fun powers but can be frustrating when you actully try to use it as an effective controller.

L50s: Tanks: Cryofission - Ice/EM - Dr Celsius - Fire/Ice - Saint George - SD/SS | Controllers: Psichosis - Ill/Kin - Major Chaos - Ill/Stm | Scrappers - Neutron Crusader - DM/SR

Currently Levelling: Angelic Blade - BS/WP Scrapper | Seeds of Destruction - Plant/Kin Controller

Way, way back in the day grav/kin was the first toon that I ever rolled. Then I took a nice long break from CoH.

To me grav is more in the ditch off the road soaked by rain and its own tears than middle of the road. It may be fine solo where Propel's absurdly long animation can play out and it can revel in its single target damage. On teams though it feels extremely under-performing. You won't have reliable AoE control until you reach 25 and get access to Wormhole, which by the way only has a 15 ft. radius compared to other AoE stuns of 25 ft. You can make life a bit easier for teams by dropping enemies in the kill zone or you can teleport them out of the action if you aren't paying attention; in short, it takes some awareness to know where and when to use Wormhole. The only other highlight of grav is Singularity at 32, a fine pet and controller unto itself. It's quite sturdy and it can be fun to toss it out in the middle of a mob. Adding to gravity's troubles is the fact that its damage type later becomes highly resisted so as you're blooming in one area you're scaling back in another.

I only find gravity bearable when paired with a control heavy secondary like storm, grav, or trick arrow. If you're looking for a damage heavy control set then plant is a good contender and it blooms very early in terms of AoE control. It does very nicely with rad as a secondary, but will mesh nicely with kin as well.

That's a bummer, since Grav is a really interesting power to play around with, and it certainly looks cool. I'll wait around and hope they boost the damage on it in the future, because I don't want to take a powerset that seems to be notoriously known for sucking.

Thanks for the help!

You'll be waiting a long time for them to buff gravity. If you like the set, take it for what it's worth and do the best you can with it. I love my grav/kin controller.
