Solo, with a challenge?

So I've been playing my Claws/WP a bit and, while it's fun, it's kind of lost the "shine"

I like the way Brutes play so I'm wanting to create another one... I've been looking at the Battle Axe primary, cause it looks fun

What I'm wondering is what a good secondary would be for decently easy play from level 1 but still have some challenge to it (i.e. I might actually have to use inspirations )

Additionally... In my playing around in Mids', I started to wonder which was more effective: Defense or Resistance?

So I decided to try a BA/Elec Brute and see how that goes...

This is my preliminary slotting/power ideas, tried to balance between defense and damage...

I am curious to know what shine your brute has lost...
Claws is a great addition to brutes and I am thoroughly enjoying mine. I chose /inv and I am totally enjoying leveling her. Normally I can't stand playing toons at low lvls, but this is one toon that doesn't feel broken in the least at young lvls.

Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

"You're right...I forgot...being constantly at or the near the damage cap is a big turn off. Definitely not worth it."

Basically... it's fun for a bit to just plow through everything without having to worry about much unless I happen to come across a bunch of debuffs... but then it gets boring

I'm not saying I don't like him, he's just almost too easy to play and he's only 26 so far. I'm kind of looking for something that will be more of a challenge to play, without just increasing the character's difficulty.

Will Power is a boring, boring secondary that is extremely potent. I've never made one past 29 because I just start yawning after a few minutes.

ELA and Shield Defense are my favorite secondaries. I have a War Mace/Shield brute at 42 and a DM/ELA Brute at 50. The ELA has been my main toon since issue 8. Both of these secondaries can feel squishy at times, but they can also accomplish some really awesome feats. Carnis and Malta melt before my ELA. The Shield Defense brute brings a smile to my face with every Shield Charge, and it's great fun on a team to try and employ Phalanx Fighting to get an additional 3-9% defense. In fact, I intentionally kept my self a bit below the soft cap with this toon's final build so that I can use Phalanx Fighting to reach the cap. It's quite fun.

I know that you already chose ELA, and it will be a great combo. However, I'd also recommend trying an Axe/Sheild. Merely having access to the great weapon/shield skins can add a lot to the character enjoyment.

And here's one I prepared earlier.

If you've got proper altisis everything loses its shine, usually around the mid-30s

Not in a "OMG, this is rubbish" way, more a "Reading a post / browsing through Mids or Red Tomax and discovering something new and shiny" way. Like a magpie suffering from ADD... "Oooh, what's this new shiny combo like then.." *wanders off*

With the new difficulty settings, even WP toons are not boring any longer. Up your difficulty if you're yawning through your current mission(s) to possibly bring in some needed excitement.

If you can solo +4/x8 on your 26 brute and still be bored...then do you have a pulse?!?!

EDIT: On my claws/inv (lvl 27), I run at -1/x6. I find it wildy amusing and lots of fun. Sure I could try +3/x2 or somethign for added difficulty but I really enjoy have many many critters around...makes the brute seem more powerful.
