Travel Powers

Many people seem to love Super Jump. It's certainly not bad, but it has as many detriments as any other travel power.

It has limited vertical movement. Fly and Teleport don't.

It leaves you vulnerable to attack, and as said previously, you don't really have much time to change your trajectory to avoid it. Super Speed, Teleport and Fly keep you out of trouble more.

Super Jump is far more difficult than Fly or Super Speed for those "Search for . . ." missions in open maps that are quite frequent in upper levels Blueside. You draw aggro when you land unless there is a handy rooftop or other secluded landing place.

Bouncing around requires a lot of attention and decisions to make. Fly and Super Speed are generally easier to use.

It is not uncommon to fall between buildings and then get caught in some feature of the environment -- such as something hanging over, keeping you from going straight up. And there are times that your forward progress is restricted because you have to go up and over an obstacle. Fly and Teleport don't have this problem most of the time.

For the most part, I choose Super Jump only on melee-type characters who won't be substantially hurt by a pot-shot or two. It is fun to bounce off of rooftops, but there are occasional frustrations to using SJ. Especially in CoV, I find that Fly is sometimes faster than SJ.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

For the most part I think fly; you can get anywhere, you have stealth if you max it out with the IOs of souring and freebird, you look cool, you can slot it so you never lose any end. which is a problem with TP. That's just my opinion though, it just happens to be the slowest of them all but I don't really care because it goes fast enough for me lol.

Super speed is the 2nd. fastest but you have to deal with running around buildings and running around stairs and that can be a hassle, especially if your in villains.

I hate Superjump with a passion, it may be faster then flight but, well it's hard to explain, you experience this annoying problem when trying to get to high places, for example the AE door up top. and the vertical limitations and a whole bunch of other things. It's great for PvP though.

Teleport uses alot of END but is the fastest and great if your a stone tanker. Also takes some skill when using it which you probably had to learn since you have it.

ALL the travel powers are preference though and there really isn't one that is the "best". They are all pretty balanced. Hell, I have a friend with just Fitness and 3slots in hurdle, swift and 6slots in sprint, she gets around okay but she does this because of the story and it's iconic to her character.

EDIT: Also flight is nice because you hit auto run key and you can walk away from the computer while your toon flies to the mission. You can't do that with the other Travel powers that's for sure.

For me there is only one answer:

Super Speed.

And not really because of the travel power itself... but because to get it (without being a 60 month or whatever vet) is to take HASTEN first.

And Hasten is quite simply one of the most powerful powers in the game.

But wait, theres more... Super speed also comes with fast movement speed base, and the awesome -perception/threat (stealth), which makes it incredibly useful to stack with a stealth IO for PvE invisiblity.

Yes. Now you too can finish tedious tasks in mission arcs by invisibly running to glowies and final boss rooms. You know you want this.

If that wasnt enough, Super speed also stacks with your inherent power sprint to make travel even faster without slotting! That means less slots for speed increase enhancement, and more slots to use for universal travel IOs! This gives me a 20% slow resist on all my characters with a winter's gift IO slotted in the default slot for SS, and with my handy dandy stealth IO in sprints default slot, I am ready to roll. Yeah, I roll under the move speed cap that way, but its plenty fast enough IMO.

But regardless of all else... theres one reason Super speed is the best travel power in the game...and that reason is Hasten.

If you need vertical just use your flight pack or jump jet from mayhem/safeguards.

"Most powerful" is subjective. But I would argue Super Speed is the best power when they are looked at in context.

The reason is that Fly is easily duplicated by jet packs. Super Speed is not duplicated. And if you can both super speed and fly, there is not a lot of need to teleport or super jump.

Super speed also comes with partial invisibility. And guess what. If you turn on Super Speed while you're flying with your jet pack, you are still concealed! Once you get IOs you can even use this to become completely invisible while flying.
