Masterminds and Giant Monsters
The Assault Bot has significant -Regen in its plasma bolts.
|
Oh, indeed. It's just that having it in the primary means that Bots/Anything is a great start on hard target soloing.
/Poison used to be pretty hot stuff for this, but then its -50% regen was made resistable in the great -Regen normalization.

Actually, a lot of work has gone into the analysis on this, and there are no Scrapper builds that can obtain the DPS levels needed to overcome a Giant Monster's regen levels. The absolute best DPS builds out there are /Shield Scrappers with saturated AAO, and it's not high enough when paired with the best DPS primaries, like Dark Melee or Fire Melee.
The major contributor to soloing such entities is large -Regen debuffs. The ones of 500% and larger, even when resisted by level 50 GM resistances, are such as to contribute such a large effective DPS that ATs with much lower inherent raw DPS capabilities can be built to overcome what's left. |
Of course back then we didn't have all the tools to track the results like we do now, so I may be completely wrong on this. But given the nerf and renerf of the scrapper sets, I'd say it's pretty close.
Remember, I didn't see him kill it, or keep track of inspiration use. I got bored after 10 minutes and went back to playing.
I did definitely mean with the current game.
I can't remember the give and take of everything that's changed with our own DPS and GM regen rates since back then. (Hell, back then I didn't know any of that stuff.) I'd be a little surprised if an old-school Scrapper could get the DPS to solo a same-level GM without running out of endurance, but if anyone could have, it probably would have been a /Regen.

Ok, Dechs, it's time to tell your scrapper friend what's what. |
It showed the links provided here about Masterminds soloing GMs, and then I said, "I'm pretty sure that NO controller can match a scrapper for DPS, but this guy took down a GM." and gave him the link to the controller/kraken thing.
I wrapped it up with: "Burden of proof's on you now, show me a scrapper that can solo a GM without popping a shivan or HVAS."
Thanks everyone!
Where to now?

I seem to recall posts on the old boards about a scrapper and several Ill/ trollers that have soloed Lusca post I6 - I'm pretty sure a lot of insps were involved though. iirc the scrapper took some ridiculous length of time - double digit hours to do it.
Pre I6 several regens had managed it.
There was also a period when you got credited with the badge as long as you had done damage when it despawned but I wouldn't count those.
I'd certainly expect MMs to be one of the best suited ATs to soloing GMs as long as they arent throwing out lots of AoEs

Because Poison also has a craptastic power called [Poison Trap]. People generally differentiate them by calling the one in Poison "Poison Trap" (and generally to be avoided), while the one in Traps is generally "Poison Gas Trap" (and should be taken, even after getting nerfed)
