Hey everyone,
I just recently started on city of heroes and I was wondering if a lot of people still play it. I'm in Galaxy City and I don't see anyone....where does everyone hang out and are all the cities relative to a certain level range? I mean am I doomed to always be playing by myself because I am new? I really am enjoying the game but the tumbleweeds are getting to me...lol. I'd appreciate any answers to these questions.

There are still people playing Coh yes, alot, maybe not. Anyway Atlas park is more popular then Galaxy, so you might want to try and go there.

A lot of people DO still play this game, but currently there seem to be less on-line at any given time. Part of that is the start of school, which tends to pull some players away to concentrate on RL stuff. Part of it is because a couple of intriguing other game released not too long ago and people are checking that out.

Galaxy City is one of the starting zones. That said - it is the one chosen by those who want a quieter start. Many more people start over in Atlas Park. You can go to AP if you want - just look for the circled "T" and take the train.

All the city zones (BTW - Paragon City is really one big city for the most part - what you mean are zones or neighborhoods) do have targetted ranges which means you are somewhat more likely to see a level 15 in Steel Canyon or Skyway City than in Galaxy City or Atlas Park. That being said, the recent release of Issue 16 means that it is even easier to have many different level characters on the same team, and so the character levels are a bit more mixed than they used to be in each zone.

Absolutely not. This is a game where many players start new alt characters all the time. I have been playing the game for more than 57 months and I just started a new Scrapper last night.

One thing to remember is that over 90% of the missions in the game are "instanced" meaning that the character is not out on the streets and visible to everyone else.

Where can I find you? What is your Global Name?

Welcome to the City! Please stick around to give us a chance to make you feel more welcome....

Thanks for the welcome. And I will be sticking around...I think it's worth buying and seeing if anyone still plays...it's a very very fun game.
My Global name is Kryst Daymen.

I'm a newbie too--I play here and on Protector and Pinnacle. School and work probably do pull people away--I know I'm busy--I had six exams to grade the last two weeks and my classes have assignments due next week that'll have to be graded--some of us are students--some of us teachers. Also, many of us have family commitments and, in my case, I write in a shared Star Trek fan universe and also have a couple of nBSG stories I'm writing, so those keep me busy.

Also, new games like Champions Online and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 have rolled out and people are probably giving them a look-see as the above poster pointed out. I've been meaning to give Hearts of Iron III a look sometime, but never enough time...

I play in both Atlas and Galaxy City as well as run villains in the Rogue Islands and I generally don't have problems finding teams on any of my servers.

And yes, it is a very fun game.

Infinity also may not quite be a a quiet Server, It's the third largest last Time I checked, but it's a large drop off from Virtue and Freedom, who take the two largest supply of people. I don't play in Virtue anymore because of the Lag, and I've never been to freedom, but I'm certain that like Virtue it has more than 1 Atlas Park. But in the higher servers, there will always be people willing to team, weather these people are good team mates is another matter though.
The best thing to do now-a-days, is to sit tight, gain some levels on your own and flip your Team message to Looking for any.

Welcome to the game too! Make sure to hop in on Jello Shooters and Protector Watch if you're looking to team.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Because this game is heavily instanced, it'll seem like nobody is around in the city zones. /search is your friend, as are global channels, supergroups etc

As others have said, this is a heavily instanced game. When using /search (or /sea if you're feeling lazy...), enter close to your level range and hit 'search' button. This will show more than just people in your immediate area. Greys are on a team, whites are not. There's more colors, but those are the two basics. Search also shows you their location...it helps to see just how many people are in missions. There's a strong rumor persisting that Castle let it drop that sub numbers are really much healthier than various powers expected (I think over 100k at least).

And to add to the ghost town impersonation, there are people who /hide from search functions, so you won't see them in game unless they send you a tell or you're standing next to them. And Infinity is a server with a slight soloing bent, compared to, say, Virtue. We team plenty, just not as much as you'd expect with a relatively large server population.

That being said, feel free to global friend me if you want to team, or chat in game, or have questions about the game. @Tiny Bolt and @Tinier Bolt.

Global channels are also helpful--it's where quite a few people find teams. I've heard rumors of finding teams on channels like Infinity Hamidon, but I'm not personally in that channel, so I don't know. AE Anonymous' chatter can be really frakkin annoying, but it is a highly useful channel to find a team in...but you probably want to put it in a seperate tab so you aren't swamped with chatter from it. If you want badge missions and tfs, Infinity Badges and Inf Badge Seeker are great.

It's always pleasing to see new faces around Paragon, so welcome. I have no doubt that you'll start to make regular acquaintances, and the sort.

When you first log into the game, you're presented with a list of the servers. The first server is the most recent one that you visited. The remainder of the list is ordered from least populated >> most populated.

Once you're in the game, Atlas Park (AP) tends to be more populated than Galaxy City because AP tends to have more people milling about under the Atlas statue, costume contests, and the Mission Architect teams (AE) seems to have collected there.

To see who is around, type /sea for a list of heroes that are in your current zone. You can then perform further searches of the other city zones, and refine your search according to level and archetype.

Before you start teaming, I'd recommend that you check the Player Help >> Player Guides >> Guide to Guides section in these forums, and look at teaming advice. Be thoughtful about how you form and participate in teams, and you'll be a five-star hero.

Also, since you're new to Paragon, keep in mind that you're still learning, so don't get disappointed if teams don't work out. If you try leading a team, then you are bound to be a little "rough at the edges." However, try to spot where you can do a better job next time.

And ParagonWiki is your friend. <grin>

Cheers,

Johnny
