Hmm... If only I could actually come up with a concept for a spines/fire scrapper... (or the incentive to get back into my mace tank as the other posts are making it sound pretty sweet, she's just playing too slow in the low levels to get my attention.)

Yeah, I wouldn't use Super Strength for this particular character, as you'll have to wait til 32 to actually do any AoE at all.

Spines probably is your best choice, although Electric is a close second, and probably pulls ahead against certain types of enemies.

However, I also think that the Best AoE toons are ALL ranged characters, with the exception of the (nerfnerfnerfnerfnerfnerf) Fire/Kin.

Actually, in retrospect, if you REALLY want the best AoE Melee toon, you should make a Fire/Kin/Psi Controller. :P

Now, if you just want, constent, 24/7, AoE madness, youd prolly roll a Spine/Dark, Fire, or now Elec. You get 2 Damage auras, spineburst, and thowspines, ready for each and every spawn.

So, it's either Spines, or Elec (IMO). Frankly, i find Spines more effective, and easier to use. The damage aura and spineburst simple to aim... you get right smack in the middle... and go nutz, and thorwspines cone is HUGE, so, again, aiming isn't hard, and the attacks recharge pretty fast. Elec, it's best aoe attack is on a long timer. JL's cone IMO is small, The chaining lighting attack is unpredictable. thrunderstike is AWSOME, no question, but all in all, i think spines is just more consistnet and more forgiving, thus, making it, genearly speaking, a better performer.
Kingsnake got it one.

If you go with the original look for Spines, you can come up with some sort of burning-bush type of concept. Give it the Leafy costume pieces and a natural origin and be creative with the bio. In God's/Mother Nature's wrath over our destruction of the environment, lightning struck a bush and set it on fire, and granted it sentience and further abilities.

Could probably come up with some kind of concept for Metal Spikes and Fire Armor, as well. Some sort of Tech or Science theme, perhaps. At 7:39 AM central, though, my brain isn't at 100% functioning for that. Good Luck!

From a practical standpoint, it seems to take a lot more positioning work to get the most out of JL, CI, and TS than it does to land in the middle of the spawn and bounce on Foot Stomp or Combustion/GFS. CI in particular is tremendously fiddly due to needing to not kill the primary target and due to the random nature of the arcs.

I don't see it happening. I would greatly enjoy being shown that I am in the wrong. I can bring the Super Strength guys for you to compare to
I'm with Smurph and ST on this one. I had an Elec/SD brute that I IO'd out pretty thoroughly. He was good but once I leveled an SS/SD I stripped him of all IOs to equip the SS. With high recharge Footstomp cranks out the damage. It's also nice in that it's a big round AoE; you avoid having to constantly position cones.

SS/SD/Mu Brute

With the chance for +recharge proc (it's +100% recharge) and a good recharge build, you're using footstomp every 5 seconds or less. The proc is just about always running. You're getting +damage from shields and you get Shield Charge, which is better than Lightning Rod due to it's ability to do full damage to all enemies inside the radius. Most people don't mention, or just don't know, that Lightning Rod only does full damage within a few feet of where you click, does about 2/3rds that damage in about a 10 foot radius, and only a bit of damage to enemies on the outside perimeter of the attack.

Then you get to follow that up with your APP AoE Attack. You literally 3 shot entire spawns. I doubt anything else even comes close. It's got amazing alpha strike AoE and amazing sustained AoE and amazing damage mitigation due to being able to perma knockdown an entire spawn (just incase for whatever reason they don't die in whatever the animation time for FS+SC+APP AOE is). Plus the chance for +recharge proc doesn't work in Lightning Rod or Shield Charge, as it applies the effect to the psuedopet that actually does the attacking.

If you want a hero, Fire/SD/Fire. Yes, FSC is THAT good.
