Not sure if this would go here but trying to figure out how to put up the pic of my toon. I thought I'd have the option to browse for it in the CoH folder and put it up that way but I don't see it.

Steps:
1. Get an image of up to 100x100 pixels.
2. Host it somewhere like Photobucket.

Photobucket (and others) generally give you a direct URL you can use for it. You'll need it shortly. Don't use anything with a reference to, say, IMG tags.

3. Go to user CP, select "Edit Avatar."
4. Select "Use Custom Avatar." Paste in URL from step 2 (or rahter the note after.)

Save changes.

Edit:
If you want (simply) a picture of your character, yes, take a good screenshot in game. You'll have to open that picture up in something such as Paint (not ideal,) Photoshop or another image editor. Get a good, square region - preferrably at the size of the avatar or larger - and copy it. (If it's smaller and you scale it up, it generally looks lousy.)

<bah> Completely misunderstood the question.

You do that using the PrntScr key on your keyboard, then look under the installation folder of City of Heroes for a Pictures subfolder. I'm not at my COH machine right now so if I have that subfolder wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

A key point to mention again...

The pic has to be cropped to a maximum of 100 x 100 pixels.

Typically, a game screenshot will be much bigger than that, hence
Bill's point about taking it into paint or photoshop.

Having just made my first avatar a couple days ago, I can tell
you that the forum won't display it if it's bigger (my first crack
at it was 115 x 115 and it didn't work until I reduced it).

If you use photobucket, you can also resize photos there too.

While it's preferable to have a 100 x 100 avatar, it's not necessary. The forum will automatically smash larger avatars.

Perhaps that is so, but it didn't do so in my recent experience.

The "says-it" site produces 115 x 115 as the smallest size and the
forum definitely would not load that...

It may have been in a grey area ... ie. bigger than 100 x 100, but
too small at 115 x 115 to "squash"... <shrug>

In any case, I did have to adjust size, at which point it displayed fine.

It looks like he got his working, so it's all to the good now...
