Hopefully nobody is going to be offended by what I'm about to say; it's not meant to be offensive in any way.

I hate 9/11. Every year, I brace myself for the media circus that always happens. I really don't give a damn about all the gory details and sensationalization that will sell your newspapers and magazines.

I don't know why this year was different, but I found that it was. No tribute magazines filling the grocey stores, no giant front page newspaper stories for an entire week, no constant TV/Web news broadcasts. Just a bunch of nice, quiet, respectful tributes and memorials.

These people died for no good reason. They do not deserve to be turned into cash cows. They should be honored and respected.

Thank you ScooterTwo, for posting in exactly the right manner, without tacking on any political, or any other, agenda.

I don't know anyone affected directly by those events, but I still wish the best for those who do.

My memories of that day and the week that followed...

Being woken up at six am by a phone call from my mother...

Being called by my boss asking if I was in Dallas this week or last (I was home) because they were grounding all the planes...

Deciding that I would go in to work even though I was offered the day off. Seeing my co-workers trying stay upbeat and professional...

Driving by our local Mosque and seeing my neighbors offering support to our Muslim community...

Getting a haircut from my local (Jordanian) barber three days after the event. I was his first customer since the event.

Visiting a nearly empty shopping mall...

The most striking thing - Looking up at the sky for four days and seeing NO air traffic...

I don't know why that last one sticks with me the most... I suppose it's because I live near Boeing and am used to seeing planes fly overhead several times an hour.

Take care out there folks.

As a New Yorker, I agree with you Rod. There is no reason to turn a horrible event like this into a media circus. I've seen some horrid stuff to venders selling post cards near ground zero of the flaming towers to people protesting the war during memorial services. 9/11 should be a time to remember the death of innocent people and not further any political agendas.
