Forum: How does it remember 'last post' etc?
It stores which threads you have read inside the forums database. If it is getting it wrong then there must be some issues with db access that is causing it to occasionally fail.
Its most likely a cookie on your computer to track.
Went and looked, the cookie seems to be bbthread_lastview.
Eco, I experience the same from time to time.
I read in another thread (by Master-Blade I think), that it possibly was related to just closing the browser, without logging out. Another advice was to 'mark forum as read' (when done of course) by double-clicking the forum icon.
This is all very well, but why should I have to be the one to do all the extra work? Its atrocious customer service. the awesome forums were opne of the reasons I got so sucked into this game, and now they're really pissing me off. Why so much of the new forums are so unintuitive I'll never know. The defaults should be set so that our lives are easier, not more ******* complicated.
EDIT - if they expect me to log out every time I'm done with the forum and then log back in again for no reason at all other than they cant do their job, well, I'm not going to lol. The other forums had no trouble remembering where i was in a thread, I don't see why these can't.

Is there anyone in authority I can PM on the issue? Am I allowed to?

Then, depending on circumstances, the "You last visited:" date/timestamp can be inaccurate from forum to forum.
The steps I take to prevent an issue:
- I subscribe to the forums I frequently visit, and use my "User CP" as my forum bookmark.
- I always use the "View last unread post" to view the thread.
- I always use the "Forum Tools > Mark This Forum Read" option when I am done with a Forum and then click on "User CP" when I'm ready to move to the next forum.
- I always use the "Quick Links > Make Forums Read" from my User CP area when I am about to close my browser or not browse it for any extended period of time. I specifically do it within the "User CP" area, because I've noticed it not always working correctly from within forums or threads.
Signing off isn't required. I might have made that statement before I fully streamlined my own browsing methods, or I mentioned it just as a suggestion to the people who my methods don't seem to work for. lol
It seems like a lot of work, but now the forums function perfectly for me, and I've gotten used to doing it that way.
YMMV

'Seems' like a lot of work? I would say, MB, that the forums don'twork perfectly for you, because you've had to resort to all that palaver. You call the forums 'strange' I say theyre bugged and unfriendly. I love all the shiny stuff we got, but ffs they should have kept the GOOD from the old forums as well.

You're right, MCM.. it's silly that it doesn't seem to work right to begin with, but I don't know who you can contact about it either.
On a side note, I HATED the way the old forums worked. Many times if I was on a TF, or haven't browsed anything in a awhile, it would automatically mark everything as read, and it was annoying trying to sort through the unmarked threads. To prevent that, I simply had to go through EVERTYTHING before going to work, to the store, or starting a long event.
I'd much rather have a read post show up as unread, than an unread post show up as read. The new way is so much better (for me).
Castle has posted how the problems with remembering last read is aggravating him. He also said their working on it.

The last two days, I'm getting the bolded thread title indicating a new post, but the last post isn't actually new to me. It's annoying as hell. Compounding the annoyance is my lack of understanding of why this is happening now. It just seems totally arbitrary.
